ITU Chapter 14: How To Cope
Firey sat next to Four, who was busy brooding at the moment. Neither of them found any clues as to where X might have been. Sighing in frustration, Firey closed his eyes.
He tilted his head up, leaning back slightly. "So," he started, "I hate to ask, but why is X so...angry?" Four looked up at him. "Eh?" He questioned.
Firey opened his eyes again, glancing to the side. "X practically gave you a death stare!" Four tsked, burying his head deeper into his knees.
"I'm not too sure, honestly." He shrugged, voice slightly muffled. "It doesn't feel real." Firey blinked in confusion. "What, seeing him?"
Four groaned. "Seeing him act this way!" He lifted his head up, clenching it with his hands. Gritting his teeth, he hissed in frustration.
"He never kidnapped people when he was alive!" He frowned. "When I thought he was dead..." Sighing, Four let go of his head, falling back on his back.
"...Why am I spilling my guts out to you?" Firey flinched, looking down at him in shock. "What do you mean?" He frowned slightly.
"Wait...are you still mad about what happened 2 years ago?" He asked, tone genuine. Four lazily turned his head towards him. "Meh."
He shrugged again. "What can I say? I really care about Leafy." Closing his eyes, Four was quiet for a minute. Then, he flinched, opening his eyes wide.
"Then what does..." He mumbled. Firey gave Four a look of confusion, watching them stand up, suddenly serious. "We need to go find Pin and the others."
Firey stood up with them, his confusion turning into concern. "What?" He asked Four. Without another word, Four started to rush away.
"H-Hey! Wait up!"
Taco looked at her doppelgänger with curiosity, as she stirred the pot suspended over a fire. From what little time she spent with her, she had discovered many things.
The other Taco was the leader of the group, and was attempting to neutralize the parasites. However, X had been getting in the way of their research, as well as kidnapping those infected by the parasites.
But, there was a catch. X was attempting to completely destroy the parasites.
Then what was Taco doing?
Turning around to face the guest, the other Taco handed her a cup. "Just as I said earlier." She said. "We are trying to neutralize them."
Taco tilted her head in confusion. "What do you mean by that?" The accented Taco turned away from her counterpart. "The parasites weren't always parasites."
She sighed quietly. "They were actually quite friendly." It might have been her accent...but Taco could have sworn she heard a bit of tenderness in her doppelgänger's voice.
Not to mention...there was a small smile on the brit's face, being hidden behind a glass. As quickly as Taco noticed this, it left. "But Cob's experiment ruined everything."
She sighed, placing the cup gently on the table. "I hate that man...if it weren't for him..." Taco's doppelgänger quickly cleared her throat.
"Don't mind me." She said, as her demeanor suddenly felt cold. "I'm wasting time. We need to prepare a search party if we're going to find the infected vicitms."
Taco nodded, setting the cup down on the table. "Right, I'll go get my friends." She told her British counterpart. They both exited the makeshift tent.
Just as she started to look for her friends, Pin and Coiny came rushing up to her, Gelatin in their arms. Her eyes widened slightly.
"Is Gelatin okay?! What happened?!" She asked them. Pin was quick to answer. "We're ninety percent sure X came back."
Coiny nodded frantically. "They attacked Gelatin! Or tried to!" Taco felt her blood boil as she grit her teeth. "X really wants us out of the forest..."
She tsked. "We aren't leaving til everyone is safe and back with their friends!" Taco said out loud, forgetting that Pin and Coiny were right in front of her.
Gelatin started to stir awake, rubbing his head. "G...h...Leafy...?" He mumbled, slightly surprising the three. "I... had a bad dream..." He nervously chuckled.
"You promise not to tell Lolli I was asleep on the job...right?" He seemed dazed, and out of it. Taco took a few steps back. What he had said...well it could have been nothing.
But...if it wasn't...
What were the implications of this...?
When Gelatin opened his eyes, he became quiet. One of his hands covered his mouth nervously, as if he had realized what he had said.
Tears pricked from the corners of his eyes. He looked like a kid who had just been yelled at. Like he was in deep trouble. "You... didn't hear that...?"
He nervously asked, already knowing the answer. Taco tried not to look intimidating, as she put a reassuring hand on Gelatin's shoulder.
"...You don't have to explain if you don't want to." Taco said, as Gelatin looked away. "I need to. Especially after everything that has happened now." He sighed.
He pulled away from Coiny and Pin, kneeling on the ground. The three looked between each other, confused, before turning their attention back to Gelatin.
Shaking slightly, Gelatin was trying not to cry. "All of this is my fault!" He blurted out in between sobs. The three looked at him in confusion.
"If I-I had just told you guys!
L-Leafy w-would-" He sniffled. Taco pat him on the head nervously. "Whoa! Slow down!" She said. "I'm not even sure what you're talking about..."
Gelatin wiped the tears out of his eyes, sniffling again. Taco sat beside him. "You really don't have to tell us." She said, patting his back.
After a few moments, Gelatin shook his head.
"I knew Leafy still had her powers."
