~~~-.-Chapter One-.-~~~
Frost and Terran sat at the lunchroom table, bickering about a science problem, their friends laughing. Terran was swearing a placebo was not the same as a pill, and Frost swore he was wrong. "No, it has to be the same! There is no way there is a difference! Right? I swear I'm not making this up!" Frost's laugh carried across the lunchroom. Everyone at the table joined in and soon, a table close by began coming up with new debates.
"Frost and Terran Crost, please come to the front office, Frost and Terran Crost, please come to the front office." Terran looked up at the intercom, his green eyes confused. They have noticed. We don't look like sixteen year olds Frost. They were going to find out sooner or later. Terran stared into Frost's eyes as they communicated through thought. Frost nodded and got up. She followed Terran through the halls, trying to form a solid plan, but every decision she had, Terran imagined how it could go wrong.
"Hello kids, these are the new kids. The principal wants you to show them around for the day. Help them know where to go, and who to talk to. You know, high school things." The assistant principal watched as the siblings stiffened. "Oh come on, you two are the most social kids in school, it's not much different from talking to your friends." The assistant principal waited for Terran to nod and walked away.
Frost stared directly into the eyes of the person in front of her. His eyes were golden, they all were. Frost swallowed and took a deep breath, their scents flowing in. She started and swiftly looked at her brother. Terran, they are cold ones. I don't know if they are with Aro, but I don't trust them at all. Terran nodded and held out his hand to the closest one. "Hi, I'm Terran, this is Frost, but her real name is Laila, depending on how well you know her." Terran waited for the guy to shake his hand.
"Hello. Jasper Hale, pleasure to meet you." Frost watched his hand carefully, waiting for him to attempt attacking her brother. When Jasper let go, he glanced at her and a wave of calm washed over her suddenly. She startled again and nodded, turning slightly and motioning for them to follow her. I'll stay behind you, I'm stronger, so we'll be fine. Terran made eye contact long enough to send her the thought, then motioned for her to lead the way.
They willingly followed and when Frost came to a stop, and told them their first class of the day, her eyes locked with the golden haired boy. I'm not your enemy. Frost gasped and told her brother she'd be back. He nodded and continued the tour. Frost ran outside into the ran and drew in a deep breath, her already irregular heart pounding triple speed. She gasped for air shortly before trying to focus on a calming memory.
"No, no. Here, put your fingers like mine. Exactly." Alec's beautiful face smiled and he threw his rock, watching it skip across the calm water of the pond. Jane laughed as Frost failed again, and again. She stopped trying and sat down in a fit of anger. Alec dropped to his knees and brushed her Snow White hair out of her face. "I told you it's hard to understand. Don't be sad, you will get it eventually." Alec's words sounded comforting and she nodded.
Frost took a deep breath and sat down in a squat. She thought about his serene face as he slept, his beautiful blue eyes, happy smile, the day he celebrated his birth, the day he grieved for his mother, how surprised he was when Terran opened his eyes, the way he spoke to Jane, the day he taught Jane and Frost to skip rocks. Finally she remembered the day he died. The scars on his legs, the bright, blazing flame, the smell of his sweat and blood boiling. And Aro's harsh venom filling his veins. His agonizing scream. Jane's small figure squirming from the burning of her body. "Oh, Alec, if only you had died that day. The world is so complicated now. You could've courted me, wed me, and lived happily. Now I have to flee America again, drag Terran with me."
Terran met her at the end of the day, at his car. His vibrant green eyes were sad. "Terran, we don't have a choice. We'll go to Italy. Last I heard the Volturi were there. They won't suspect us right under their noses. It's safer for us all." Frost sighed when Terran hesitated to get in the car. "Terran, now." Terran tore his eyes from Jaspers and nodded. "Of course it's safer. I wish we didn't have to run every time a new cold one came across our path." Terran's eyes shifted to the ground.
"Master, what makes you believe an enemy is in our midst? Did Edward tell you something?" Jane was perched calmly behind Aro's desk, her legs swinging around. Alec stood close by, his expression bland and sad. "A very interesting one. One I had almost forgotten. She and her brother were created long before you were. I forget the details of their birth, but they are a danger to us." Aro continued flipping through old books, accidentally tearing a page. Jane vanished and reappeared with tape almost instantly. "More dangerous than the girl knowing our secret?" Jane taped the book gently and vanished again, returning to her seat.
"Much more dangerous. Her eyes are like those of ice. Her brother was too young for me to know his eyes. She was a pet of the Romanian's. Her and her brother were made to defeat armies of us. But when we attacked, she fled with her brother. We've been hunting the demons since." Alec's face had turned sad, his emotionless gaze fixated ones on a point in the past. Jane looked at him and felt the same wave of sadness hit her. "She sounds like our old friend. Her eyes were very beautiful. And her baby brother's eyes were emerald. They fled the night we were created. I do hope something good became of the two." Alec gave a small grin when she said that.
"What are you thinking of Alec? Dear one let me see what troubles you." Aro held out his hands and Alec laid his hand in Aro's without hesitation. Jane watched carefully as Aro's face changed from happy to concerned in a moments notice. "Master?" Jane rushed to his side as he jerked away.
"Caius, Markus, we must search for the demons. They pose a grave threat to us all. Alec, Jane, we will have you two accompany us when we've found them." Aro walked away, leaving Jane and Alec in confusion. "Sister, I believe Laila is the demon he speaks of." Alec had a look of horror on his face.
"See Terran, it's been almost two years, they haven't suspected a thing. And those Golden eyes cold ones will never remember us." Frost say staring at the Eiffel Tower, her smile content, happy.
