PROLOGUE - II
"It is time."
Ayaz opens his eyes at the sound of Ajak's commanding voice, feeling the weight of his leader’s presence as he sits in the sacred circle surrounded by his fellow Eternals. The imposing chamber of the Domo reverberates with purpose, dominated by a model of Arishem the Judge—an awe-inspiring figure, the celestial leader who oversees their centuries-long mission to cleanse Earth of the Deviants.
With a determined breath, Ayaz rises and strides purposefully to his designated position on the bridge. His back is to the wall adorned with intricate patterns and symbols, each representing the unique legacy of the different Eternals. The artwork seems alive, pulsating with ancient energy as if the walls themselves whisper tales of their history.
Golden tendrils and circles begin to swirl around him, shifting and merging to form his Eternal suit over his casual clothing. To his satisfaction, the colors transform into a striking grey and gold, accentuating his golden blond hair and the vibrant gold of his eyes. The suit embraces him like a second skin, powerful yet elegant.
His golden eyes scan the vastness of the domed chamber, taking in the sight of his fellow Eternals as they prepare for the task ahead. His gaze finally rests on the panoramic view of outer space, a breathtaking expanse filled with swirling galaxies and shimmering stars. A thrill of excitement courses through him, a rush of purpose igniting a fire deep within.
As he shifts his feet, he approaches the mirror, his heart racing as he catches a glimpse of the Earth spinning below. It’s beautiful, a fragile jewel in the dark void of space, and he can't help but feel a deep connection to it.
"Beautiful, isn't it?" Ayaz turns at the soft voice beside him. A dark-haired girl, likely around his age, smiles at him, her presence warm and inviting.
"Very," he agrees, awe evident in his voice. "I'm Ayaz."
"I'm Sersi," she replies, her smile brightening the dim chamber.
They engage in a spirited conversation, sharing stories and laughter that resonate in the vast space around them. The bond forms effortlessly, a connection that seems to transcend time and place. Ayaz feels a sense of belonging he hadn’t anticipated among his fellow Eternals.
With a newfound sense of purpose, Ayaz teleports, navigating through the intricate routes of the Domo, the massive triangular vessel of their kind. The familiar sensation of dark grey smoke envelops him, exhilarating and grounding all at once.
He arrives in a circular chamber, its ambiance lit by unusual glass lamps resembling spheres with extending tendrils, casting shadows that dance across the almost obsidian walls. The surface is rough and organic, decorated with designs that evoke a sense of reverence, as if he has stepped into a sacred space.
Curiosity bubbles within him, and he traces the engraved runes, each one telling a story that ignites his imagination. His fingers brush against the cool surface, sending a thrill through him as he absorbs their meaning.
"Curiosity killed the cat."
Ayaz turns sharply at the sound of the voice, his hand instinctively dropping to his side. Leaning casually against the doorframe is a brown-haired Eternal, clad in black armor that accentuates his dark allure. His blue eyes gleam slightly under the dim light, holding a predatory glint that both intrigues and intimidates. There’s something wolf-like in his stance, a blend of confidence and danger that makes Ayaz’s pulse quicken. Despite the intimidating presence, Ayaz can't help but notice how handsome the Eternal is, with an unnervingly charming smile that reveals a hint of mischief.
"I didn’t realize I had company," Ayaz replies, an amused smile tugging at his lips.
The brown-haired Eternal steps forward, a smirk playing at the corner of his mouth. "I’m Druig."
Returning the smile, Ayaz introduces himself. "I'm Ayaz."
