30. Chapter 30. THAT'S MORE THAN 29!!

This is Chapter 30, wow. To be honest, when I started writing this I figured I'd be done around chapter thirty, but I feel like I'm just getting started! I have so many fandoms I want our small team to visit that I'll probably be spreading a bunch of them over a sequel sometime.

Small side note ~ if you struggled to follow the last couple of chapters because you're not familiar with HTTYD, sorry about that. When (I mean IF) I ever finish this book, I'll probably go back and edit, making sure I explain a bit more for those that don't know the details.

Then with that said I'd like to thank all of you that are still reading this, because half the fun of writing the book is having someone read it. Thanks you guys/girls!

And finally ~ I need a name for a young LOTR elf-girl, probably from Mirkwood. If you have any suggestions, feel free to let me know!

Let the Frostiness continue!

The shadow slipped past the trees, trying to get close enough to the Death Song to identify the person beside it. Only a few more paces and he's be on the edge of the forest, from where...

A small twig cracked loudly under the shadow's foot, and he froze. Krogan, leader of the so-called Dragon Flyers, turned his head towards the noise, searching the trees for a moment before dismissing the sound. He turned back to the Death Song, admiring it with a satisfied smirk.

Slowly, the shadow breathed out. He had found the Dragon Flyers.

The shadow watched carefully as Krogan paced around, studying a large variety of dragons littered everywhere, each of them encased in Death Song amber except for the Death Song itself, which was chained up. With an amused smile the shadow realized that really, the Dragon Flyers should've stuck to their old name, the Dragon Hunters. It was much more appropriate.

"What is he doing?" a nearby Dragon Hunter whispered, gesturing with his eyes to Krogan, and another shrugged in reply.

The shadow knew what Krogan was doing. He was searching for a Singetail — a deadly Stoker Class dragon that could shoot fire from its mouth as well as its tail.

Slowly, the shadow moved backwards, until he bumped with his back into a tree. Then he turned around, and hoisted himself up a few branches. From there, he could watch and wait for the right moment to take action.

THE FOLLOWING DAY

"The Edge is safe," Felix stated, his gaze resting first on Sam, and then on Rue, "we should go, before,—"

"You don't want to stay any longer?" Sam enquired, "I mean, Ruffnut is finally getting used to you, and you have to admit that,—"

"Sam," Felix interrupted, "we need to go home. No matter how much I love it here..."

 He trailed off.

"Do you two have a thing against finishing sentences today?" Rue enquired, "or do you like interrupting each another that much? Or are you just..."

She stopped as she spotted something in Felix's hands.

"Now you did it too," Sam pointed out.

"What's that?" Rue enquired.

"Just a rock," Felix muttered, quickly putting the large oval object into his backpack.

"A black rock?" Rue inquired.

"Yes," Felix answered shortly, "Obsidian is black."

"Is it obsidian?" Sam asked.

"I didn't say that."

"You're not denying it either," Sam pointed out.

"It's still none of your business," Felix argued.

"I like to make it my business," Sam countered, "after all,—"

"Come on guys," Rue rolled her eyes, "enough arguing for today."

"Are you kidding?" Sam laughed, "we're only just getting started."

"Alright," Rue reconsidered, "no more arguing for at least one minute then."

"Anyway," Felix broke into the conversation again, "we need to go. You can go say goodbye if you want to."

Sam nodded sharply, and Rue glanced over her shoulder at the Edge.

"I'll make it quick, Felix, I promise," she smiled.

"I guess it would be better for their trust anyway," Felix mumbled, "after all, if we leave without a trace for no reason... not that we'll be coming back."

"You're doing it again Felix," Rue pointed out.

"What?" Felix asked.

"You're not finishing your sentences," Rue grinned.

"Oh..."

Sam frowned.

"You look distracted Frosty."

"Mmm..." Felix hummed in agreement.

"Are you thinking about something?"

"Mmmm."

"Frosty?" Sam rolled her eyes at Felix's distant gaze, and Rue smiled.

"Lost in thought again, huh?" Sam growled, "maybe this will help."

She took a deep breath.

"SNOWFLAKES!!!?!"

"Wh— what?" Felix flinched, and then directed his confused gaze at Sam, who sighed.

"I was saying that you seem a bit distracted, Frost."

Felix scowled, and Sam smiled.

"But I see you're still okay if you can frown at your own name."

"Shut up Sam," Felix muttered, "I'm just... it's none of your business. Stop reading my mind."

"I'm not... yet..."

"Rue," Felix began with a exasperated tone of voice, and Rue smiled.

"You don't even need to finish that sentence, Felix."

Rue grabbed Sam's arm.

"Come on Samster, let's go say goodbye."

Felix watched with an amused smile as Rue dragged Sam away in a search for the Dragon Riders, especially Fishlegs.

"Samster". I like it, it's kinda cute.

Well, 'Samster' almost caught you.

I know. It was way too close. I have to practice on my blocking-my-thoughts skills.

I guess it wouldn't be a total disaster for Sam find out that you actually have a friendly side.

Shut up, you know she'll never stop going on about it.

True... In that case keep doing whatever you're doing now.

See, I'm right again. *sigh...*

...

...

Go on, say it.

I just wish my plan would've worked out.

Hey, maybe it's impossible to largely alter the course of events in a movie. And what you were trying to do was definitely going to change the course of events. A lot.

I know... At least I gave it a shot.

And that's what makes you a Laufeyson.

Whose side are you on, mine or my dad's?

That depends who asks.

I'M asking.

Your's, of course.

Hmpf. Rigggghhht.

But for real now Felix, you have a unique view on everything. Your father being an ex-supervillain doesn't only have DISadvantages...

Okay, that sounded exactly like Sam. That's sort of creepy...

"Hey, you're a mind reader or you're not."

Felix didn't even need to turn around.

"Shut up Mind Shtick."

Sam curtsied mockingly.

"Of course Your Highness, Prince of Jotunheim and Asgard."

Felix rolled his eyes, and Sam walked off with a smug grin.

Wait, did she...

Come back? Or not leave in the first place? I'm not sure.

She came back. Rue dragged her away, and the only one here that does illusions is me.

Dun dun dunnnn... *cue dramatic music*

Cue dramatic music?

Come on, you know you secretly like it. Also, you might want to check if 'Samster' really left. She could've been pretending.

I will, I just...

You know what Rue would say.

What?

"You did it again, Felix. Finish your sentences."

Oh shut up.

It would be my pleasure.

Good. Now where'd Mind Shtick go...?
