8-From the perspective of a newbie.

Hello(in Jerm bot's voice lol) so I recently got a review and turns out, I don't really write about Jade, so this chapter focuses on Jade🍸. This chapter is also dedicated to those who had to leave their old lives behind to start afresh.

Have you ever moved? Like your dad or mom got a new job or contract? Or maybe they just needed an environment change, so now you have to leave that perfect life or not so perfect life behind to start a new one. Some people end up with amazing new lives, some end up as loners. There's actually no such thing as a loner, you either have real-life friends or online friends. Jade found her self in between, she had friends here but at the same time, she felt as though she didn't belong in their friend group. Then again, she had friends back in Nigeria, she had no idea how to juggle them, but if she's been very honest, her life here in LA would be a mess without her friends back home.

Jade paced around in the toilet, stopping to look at her teary face in the mirror once in a while. She held her stomach still crying, her period cramps were definitely the worst. She had no idea how to face her new friends now, considering the fact that she just poured water on one of them's face for absolutely no reason.

Maybe she was pissed about the fact that he hardly treats her with respect or the fact that she thinks she gets too close and friendly with absolute strangers. Her sudden period just made her snap today. She was tired of acting like the perfect friend, she barely knew them yet they're the only people she talks to in the entire school. One would think the experience she had back home would teach her a lesson.

She sat on the bathroom floor, still crying with her hand around her stomach, she tried calming herself down by forcing laughs and smiles. It always worked, if there's one thing she's good at; it's masking her emotions.

"I feel like you and Dre are always hooking up." She heard a voice enter the toilet, making her run into a stall.

"I think he likes me, you know. I'm after all the first girl he met after his breakup with you know who." Chloe said earning a silent scoff from Jade.

Jade wiped her tears with her fingers and walked out of the stall with a deep breath. Giving Chloe and her friend a small smile, she looked at the mirror and adjusted her curly hair.

"You're the girl that wanted to join my private party with Dre right?" Chloe asked clearly holding her smile.

"It was a misunderstanding," Jade whispered not tearing her puffy eyes from the mirror. She approached the door when she didn't get any further replies or remarks from her.

"Nice to meet you, by the way." She smiled with her chin up before walking out the door. Ignoring the sharp pain in her lower abdomen.

"Hey! Jade!" She heard Tori scream her name, Jade shut her eyes due to pain and opened them almost immediately before turning to Tori with a straight face. She raised her right brows waiting for Tori to say something.

"Are you alright?" Tori asked tilting her head.

"Yes. Why are you asking?" She asked with a thin smile.

"It's not everyday people just splash water on other people's face for no reason, if I may add," she replied whilst folding her arms, "are you sure you're okay?"

"Oh, so I'm insane because I spilled water on him?" She raised her cracked voice.

"No, your eyes are red and you're also yelling for no reason," Tori said touching her shoulder with a worried look.

"I don't know," her shoulders slumped as she said with her now teary voice, "and now, I'm crying for no reason." She said wiping her tears.

"Are you on your..." Tori implored raising her brows.

"Maybe." She wiped her tears shrugging.

"Let's get you into the toilet." Tori smiled wearily trying to assist her.

"So you don't get period cramps?" Jade asked looking at Tori as if she was the luckiest person she has ever met.

Jade rolled her pen on the smooth table in the library, she looked around the big quiet library. The school was bigger than her school in Nigeria, the halls were different and colorful, because of the lockers. Back in Nigeria, their lockers were with the seats, all they had to do was bend down and open the lockers, she smiled at the thoughts.

She stood up from the seat and walked through the shelves, looking for a physics textbook or a good novel. She wanted to be a civil engineer, honestly, she would love to be a cardiologist but she hated biology. She disliked anything that deals with long notes excluding history and English, that is. She scanned the bookshelves, not finding any good books.

"Can I help you?" She sighed looking at the girl, who has been staring at her for a while. The girl turned and rushed away, she was used to the stares. She knew she was darker than most black people in the school but the stares were honestly infuriating and it sure knew how to dampen her mood.

"Must be hard, huh?" Jade squealed, jumping away from the deep voice that whispered in her ear. At times, like this, she thanked God for making her dark, if not her face will be filled with red right now.

"Do- Do I know you?" She stuttered giving him a small smile.

"No, but I do." The cute, no handsome dark-skinned guy standing in front of her said giving her a cheesy smile. He was taller than her but they looked like they were nearly the same height due to the heels her 5ft8 frame was wearing.

"Oh, you do?" She offered him a small smile with her brows raised.

"Well, it's hard to miss a tall girl who can't do without wearing black striding around the halls in heels..." He started saying pointing his finger at her heels, "... She also gave our racist teacher the middle finger weeks after she resumed." He chuckled resting on the shelf.

"I can do without wearing black." She said trying to hold her smile in as she patted her puffy curls.

"Are you trying to prove me right?" He smiled with his brows making jest of her, " I'm Khalid." He stretched his hand still smiling as she accepted it.

"You'll be shocked but I don't know your name." He said shutting one of his eyes as he waited for her response.

"Jade, how many extra classes do we share?" She asked.

"Oh just one, I'm an art student." He shrugged standing upright.

"So you're a commercial student?" He asked now looking at the shelves as he waited for a reply.

"No, science." She stated.

"Are you sure?" He asked tilting his head before reaching for a book. He waved an accounting textbook at her face, with a playful smile, she looked at her legs fighting the urge to facepalm herself.

"Come on," he said walking past her, "so what kind of doctor do you want to be?" He asked as they got to the shelf.

"A civil engineer." She smiled looking at his shocked face. "Is it that surprising?"

"I mean, yeah. It is, it's not every day you see a girl going into the..." He paused thinking of the right word,"... Physical? Stuff."

"Oh, that's so not sexist." She said placing her hand on her chest as she faked an angry look.

"There was no other word to use." He shrugged smiling as he picked a random book to avoid her gaze. The bell rang almost immediately, he gave her an apologetic look as he said, "well I have to go now. I have an urgent class."

"Oh, no problem. I'll see you later then." She smiled as he waved and left.
'He didn't ask for your number.' The voice in her head repeated as she mentally face palmed herself.

Lost reading the thermodynamics textbook she picked earlier, Dre sat opposite her for approximately thirty seconds before knocking on the table.

"Hey." He said with a raised brow.

"Oh Dre, hi." She said unsure of how to start the conversation.

"I'm not pissed about this morning," he said turning the textbook to read it, "Tori said you were going through some female stuffs I can't ask you about." He explained shrugging.

"So you like physics? What are you going for Mechanical Engineering?" He asked now scanning the textbook pages.

"Civil," she smiled and played with her pencil, "how did you guess engineering?"

"Well, I know only one person that reads physics just because they like it, not because they're going for engineering or anything, it's just fun to them." He said shaking his head and smiling.

"Who?" She asked hoping he was not going to talk about Rachel again.

"Rachel." He said smiling at the thought of her still staring at the book. Jade shook her head with a puffed her cheeks.

"Do you still like her?" She asked seizing his smile.

He coughed and looked at her before asking, "what makes you think that?"

"It's just..." She paused contemplating on not saying anything, but his encouraging eyes made her continue,"... You can't hold a conversation without including her in it. It's like you can't go a day without talking about her." She said as Dre said nodded and said nothing in response.

Dre looked at the girl sitting in front of him, she just spilled the truth, a cold one at that. She had insinuated the fact that he was not over her, he couldn't deny it even if he tried to. He remembered the day clearly. She tried to talk to him, convince him.

"Hold on Alex, why won't you listen to me?" She cried out, as she stopped running after him in the empty hallway, "I'm telling you it's not what it looks like at all." She yelled her voice breaking.

"I saw what I saw!" He yelled, turning to look at her, he wanted to cry, punch something maybe, "I trusted you, Rachel. With every fucking thing!" He continued shouting as he kicked the dustbin beside him before dragging his hair with massive aggression.

"Please just listen to me, ok?" She pleaded with her face wet in tears.

"No, " he said calmly, "Do you love me?" He asked moving closer to her. Rachel contemplated on the answer, she was not sure, how can you tell you're in love? He chuckled as she made no attempt to answer it. "That's what I thought." He nodded slowly before he walked away.

"We promised to always talk about our problems, no matter complicated it was." She said quietly as she cried, Alexandre pretended not to hear her and her cries and continued walking. You can't fix what's broken.

"Andre," Jade snapped her fingers snapping him out of his thoughts, " are you ok? I'm sorry if what I said offended you." She said trying to look at his face.

"No, you're right. I have to go." He said as he avoided her gaze and left the library. He left the library angrily, he couldn't help the pain in his heart.

What is the easiest way to distract yourself from that tightening in your heart, according to movies? Punch something. Alexandre took a shaky breath and accidentally punched the edge of the wall. The movies definitely lied, now he had bleeding knuckles and a stinging pain in his heart. He rushed to the toilet to dip his hand in the water.

Hearing the loud noise and murmurs from students outside the library, Jade slammed the textbook shut and rushed out with her bag, not returning the book. She saw Dre with his bleeding knuckles heading the opposite direction, 'shit' she muttered under her breath before running after him.

"Oh Lord," she placed her palm over mouth as she saw his blood mixed with water inside the sink, "If you were offended, you could have said something, tell me people if you're not comfortable with something." She continued ranting, cleaning his wounds with her handkerchief.

Alexandre looked at the girl caring for his wounds, she was just like Rachel. No, he should stop comparing them, the both of them talk too much, he needed to stop thinking of her, they both cared about him, he needed to get over her. So he closed his eyes and kissed her, he kissed the girl in front of him, he kissed the girl that acted a lot like his ex.

She didn't stop him, she kissed back, he smiled on her lips as he opened his eyes, he saw the face of Rachel. He smiled as he cuffed her face and pulled her closer to him. Lost in the kiss, he finally opened his eyes, to find who he was truly kissing. 'Shit,' he thought as he broke the kiss-off, scratching the back of his head, in awkwardness, he saw Jade smiling awkwardly as she continued tending to his wound.

"It looks ok now. I have to go." She said as she practically ran out of the toilet.
