Catherine

When Johnny came back from serving his country, he was a different man. Johnny was only fifteen when he signed up to fight in the Korean war, he was barely the other side of eighteen when he came home. Johnny wasn't surprised to see Shirley waiting for him when he made it back to the Australian shores, by the end of the week the two of them were married. By the end of his thirties, Johnny had four children: three boys and one girl.

Johnny's sons quickly lost contact with their father by the time they had turned sixteen, but Catherine stayed by his side, she was daddy's little turtle.

The family attempted to reconnect when Shirley had gotten sick unfortunately the sons left their father after Shirley's funeral.

Catherine was left to pick up the pieces, she tried yet failed to convince her father to leave their family home. As she started her own family, Catherine was the one who had to balance between her own growing love and her love for her father.

She was the one who had panicked when her father had his first hospital trip after Shirley had died, she was the one who had the screaming matches with him every time Johnny wanted to be stubborn, she was the one who had to be by his side every time he needed someone; Catherine was the only one Johnny trusted to count on.

It had almost cost Catherine her marriage.

The cool wind swept through the courtyard of the hospital; Johnny smiled a little at himself as he stares out around him.

His smile quickly drops "Catherine?" He jumps up from his seat in panic "Catherine?" He starts to move through the court yard "Catherine, come to daddy" He called out as he carefully inspected the faces of the patients in the court yard. "Turtle, where are you hiding?" Panic filled his voice as he failed to find his daughter.

Nurse Rozetta turned her attention outside to the court yard, she furrowed in frustration at the lack of care coming from the other nurses. She excused herself from the patient she was talking to in the common room, she stepped out to the court yard "Sir, are you okay?"

Johnny turned to look at the redhead nurse "I can't find my daughter."

Nurse Rozetta's face softened "Would you like me to help you?"

Johnny nodded "My Shirl will hate me if Catherine is missing." He began to worry about what his wife would think if he came home without their daughter.

"What does she look like?" Nurse Rozetta asked.

Johnny paused for a moment as he tried to focus his thoughts on describing his daughter "yay high" he dropped his h to his knee to indicate her height "six years old, brown hair. It's braided with a..a.." He tried to find his words "a ribbon of some colour" His lower lip began to tremble; Johnny placed his hands over his face as he struggled to remember what his daughter was wearing.

"Johnny?" Nurse Rozetta asked as she watched him carefully "What does Catherine look like?"

Johnny moved his hands away from his face as he looked at Nurse Rozetta "Sorry, what was I doing?" The memory Johnny was having had left the front of his mind, he looked around the court yard "Can I please get a coffee and a couple of biscuits? Can't read my paper without them."

Nurse Rozetta attempted a smile "of course, Johnny." She watched as he wondered back to his seat.

Johnny placed his hands in his lap after he had sat back down.
