" i can't help but to fall. "

WARMTH OVERSPREAD Harlai as she laid on the ground, stomach down. The warmness had been flowing from Bellamy Blake, who she had unintentionally pressed close to when they dived under the tent for safety. The young woman could feel her heartbeat pick up as her breathing slowed and she began to let her mind wonder.
His muscles pressed against her bicep, feeling as though they were perfectly carved just like a sculpture. She could feel his breath tickling the back of her ear as he glanced over at her to make sure she was okay. Feeling his gaze on her, Harlai turned her head only to realize too soon that their faces were only a couple of inches apart.
Her breath hitched, his breath was now mingling with hers and dancing together as if it were their last dance. She could see his face better now since it was up close. Freckles spotted all over his the surface and there were a few scars now from all that they had been through on Earth.
Bellamy Blake couldn't help but take advantage of this moment of closeness either. His dark irises danced across the tanned plane of her face. Most of it held a caramel hue besides her cheeks which were a soft tint of pink, but he couldn't decide if it was from the sun or blushing. Just above her right eyebrow was a small scar shaped like a hook and she, too, had a splash of freckles but they only landed on the bridge of her nose.
Their little moment was broken by Jasper's voice, his words like a rock shattering their glass wall of content. "How long are we supposed to wait?" His tone was laced with worry and as Harlai broke eye contact with Bellamy, she leaned over to look at him, his eyes wide and showing the same look as his voice.
"Will this even work?" This time Monroe spoke up, their voices just a whisper.
Bellamy's eyes lingered for a moment, dragging down to Harlai's tanned chest only to see the scar from the first day of being on Earth. It was much larger than the above her eyebrow and it poked up from her shirt like a little white snake peeking out of a bush. His trail of thoughts were shattered once Harlai spoke up as well.
"Yeah, how long will this take?" She murmured as she glanced up at Bellamy, her own eyes searching his for an answer, but he wasn't the one to speak next.
"We'll find out." Finn whispered.
As Harlai's eyes landed on Finn, a worried expression crossed her features. Bellamy's jaw clenched as he watched her and he shook his head. "No we won't." With that, he pushed the tent over his head so he could look out. "There's no fog."
After Finn followed Bellamy's movements, the rest of them did as well. Harlai grabbed her weapons as she pushed herself up and she glanced around, her eyes trailing among the forest.
"Maybe it was a false alarm." Finn said.
Just as he said that, they spotted a Grounder running through the forest. Harlai notched her arrow on the string of her bow as her eyes followed it. "They're coming back." Bellamy said.
Harlai whirled around to search behind them, but she dropped her bow once she didn't see any other Grounders.
As if Jasper read her mind he said, "I think he's alone."
"Now can we run?" Monroe asked.
"He doesn't see us. I'm going after him." Bellamy spoke up, making Harlai turn around to face him.
"And what? Kill him?" Finn asked.
"No. Catch him." Bellamy responded as his eyes stayed on the Grounder. "Make him tell me where Octavia is, then kill him." After saying this, Bellamy stood from his place on the ground and began to follow the Grounder.
"How do we know he's not leading us into another trap?" Jasper asked.
"We don't." Harlai replied as she watched Bellamy walk away. "But this may be our chance to get Octavia back." With that, Harlai began to walk after Bellamy. She better be right about this.
After a few minutes of following him, Harlai paused as the five of them walked up to a cave that the Grounder had went into. "Are you sure about this, Bellamy?" She whispered only to have him stop and look at her.
"If my sister is in there, I need to get her out. You're either with me or not." Bellamy's tone was hard, but his eyes said otherwise. There was desperation lingering in them. Octavia was all he had left of his family and he would risk his life for her.
Sometimes she wished her father would do the same, but he would only risk her life for his like a selfish bastard. Luckily, she still had her mom, or so she hoped.
"Alright, let's go." Harlai nodded and she walked past him and into the entrance of the cave. Keeping her arrow notched, she stepped out of the narrow path only to see the Grounder they had followed onto the ground. "Well, that was easy."
"Harlai?" The young woman blinked once she saw Octavia in the corner just as Bellamy walked in behind Harlai. "Bellamy?"
Before she barely got the sentence out, Bellamy ran over to his younger sister and Harlai let out a relieved sigh. "Octavia." The man breathed out as he ran over to her.
"Get the key." The two worked together in unlocking her chains as Harlai kept an eye on the Grounder.
The other three came in behind them, Finn glancing down at the unconscious man.
"Monroe, watch the entrance." Bellamy ordered and not a second later, they got the chains unlocked. Harlai watched with a small smile as they hugged one another. "It's okay. You're okay."
Harlai glanced down at the man lying on the ground and she paused as she saw his eyes opening, her bow and arrow pointing at him. Her eyes widened slightly and she looked over at the rest, trying to speak but only got interrupted by the reunion.
"How did you find me?" Octavia gasped out as she threw her arms around Jasper who only hugged her back tightly, a relieved expression on his face.
"We followed him." Jasper said with a soft chuckle.
"Guys-"
Harlai was cut off again as Octavia spoke ironically. "We should go now. Before he wakes up."
"He's not gonna wake up." Bellamy walked over and grabbed a spear, but Octavia began to pull him back.
"Bellamy, stop." She said as Harlai tried to speak. "He didn't hurt me. Let's just go."
"They started this. Finn, move."
"Bellamy-"
Finn crouched over as he grabbed the foghorn that was strapped to the Grounder's waist. "Foghorn."
"Finn get away-" Harlai gasped as the man turned over and grabbed a blade, sending it into Finn's chest and making him fall to the ground.
Harlai quickly ran over to the Grounder and knowing the arrow wouldn't even harm him without air, she pulled a knife from her own waistband. Swiping at his legs, he quickly dodged her move and roughly pushed her back. This sent her into the stone wall, her head clashing with the rocks and making her slide to the ground beside Finn.
She could faintly hear everyone grunting as they fought the Grounder, but Harlai's vision was blurry. Black spots began to appear, but she tried to blink them away with no avail. She turned her head as she felt a warm liquid slowly trickle down her face and she barely saw Finn, Octavia crouching beside him.
"Stop! That's my brother!"
Harlai tried to push herself up as she heard Octavia's voice and her eyes locked onto the figure looming over Bellamy with a spear pressed to his neck. Bellamy was struggling to keep it from killing him, but then as Jasper hit the man over the head with a rock, he crumpled to the floor.
Once that was taken care of, Jasper rushed to Finn's side. Bellamy went to Harlai when he realized that she was hurt and he grimaced as he saw the blood pouring over her face. "You okay, Sleeping Beauty?" His tone was much more soft. She thought it was only because he had found his sister, but the real reason was because he cared deeply about the injured woman.
"I'm fine." She winced once he pushed some of her dark locks out of her face and he sighed quietly.
"You don't look fine."
"I am, Bellamy." She slowly pushed herself up and she stumbled a bit, her vision still not the same at the moment. "We need to get Finn to Clarke, now."
•••
"CLARKE!" Jasper yelled as he helped Harlai through the gate. She ended up not being quite alright on their trek back to the camp, so Bellamy made Jasper be at her side as he carried Finn. "Where's Clarke? Get Clarke now."
Not even a millisecond later Clarke was pushing through the crowd and rushing toward the small group. "Hey, I'm here. What's up?" Bellamy walked through the entrance of the gate with Finn in his arms, the injured man completely unconscious. "Finn? Finn. Oh my god." She gasped out as she made it to him and her eyes widened.
"Oh my god." Raven whispered as she saw him. She then noticed that she hadn't seen Harlai and she began to frantically look around. Once her eyes landed on the girl as Jasper set her down on a log, she ran over. "What happened out there?"
"Nice to see you, too." The brunette chuckled and as Raven shot her a worried look, she glanced over at Finn, Clarke announcing that he was alive. "When we found Octavia, the grounder who caught her was unconscious, but not really. He shot up and stabbed Finn."
Raven's eyes began to well up with tears and she fell onto the log beside Harlai. For the first time that she had made it onto Earth, she wrapped her arms around Harlai in a tight hug. The girl's expression softened as she hugged her back, knowing that they both needed this. "We're okay. Finn's gonna be okay."
Raven perked up as she saw them bringing Finn into the dropship and she shot up from the log, running over to Clarke. "Clarke, can you save him?" Desperation laced Raven's tone.
"Not me." Clarke shook her head as she sighed. "I need my mother. I need to talk to her."
Harlai pushed herself up from the log and she blinked away the white spots that threatened to cloud her vision as she walked over to the two.
"There's still no radio." Raven's voice broke as she looked at Clarke.
"Raven, fix it! Go!" Clarke yelled this to her, the same desperation clogging her tone as well. The two were utterly in love with the boy and luckily, they were working together to save him. Before Clarke barely got the words out of her mouth, a frazzled Raven turned and ran to fix the radio, or at least try to.
"Clarke, how can I help?" Harlai grabbed Clarke's arm gently.
The blonde looked at her friend and her icy blue gaze trailed up to the cut on her forehead. "You can help by getting someone to stitch that up and resting."
With that, the woman started began to walk away only to stop Octavia momentarily. Harlai huffed quietly and she began to walk to the dropship, hearing Bellamy and Octavia bicker behind her.
Once Harlai stepped into the dropship, she felt her whole body want to just plummet to the ground and take a long sleep. She couldn't, though. If she slept, she would miss helping out with Finn or with the radio.
Spotting Clarke's stitching kit, she grabbed it and walked over to a broken shard of mirror. She sat down on the floor in the corner and she opened the kit. Her nimble fingers grabbed a line of thread along with the needle. She brought both up to her face so she could try to tie the string around the needle end, but she couldn't get it through the small hole. Her vision was growing blurry again and she began to grow frustrated, both of her hands beginning to shake.
She was about to give up when a pair of larger hands clasped around her own, now keeping them steady. Her forest-green eyes flickered upwards to see Bellamy Blake, a hint of a smile flickering onto his face. "Trying to stitch yourself up, Sleeping Beauty? Damn, I didn't know a princess could be such a badass."
"Everyone else was busy and I'm not trying to bleed out, so.." Harlai let out a quiet chuckle and her eyes trailed down to his hands over hers. She could feel that certain warmth that always flowed from his touch, just like earlier in the tent.
Bellamy's own eyes flickered down to where his hands gently held her own. He cleared his throat and he plucked the needle and thread out of her hands.
"I got you."
