I see this song as a story, a story of how we came to be in Christ. It is the story of God's grace flooding our hearts and changing our lives. His amazing grace covers all :)

All these pieces broken and scattered...

This is how we were before we came to Christ. I remember those days, I was never truly satisfied with myself because I used what other people said about me to dictate my life. All of the pressure would cause me to say things or so things I really shouldn't have done.

In Mercy gathered, mended and whole...

God is Mercy, he took all of the broken pieces, and in His grace, He made us whole.

Empty handed, but not forsaken...

Even though we didn't have anything to give, He did not forsake us...God still came to our rescue.

I've been set free, I've been set free...

I just imagine chains being broken whenever I hear these words. The world bring so much pain and brokenness, but GOD SETS US FREE.

In jars of clay

God took upon Himself our troubles, and then He set His "treasure in jars of clay".

This is referencing to 2 Corinthians 4:7->

We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves. (NLT)

I love how this verse says "our great power is from GOD, not ourselves." There are two things I believe we can get from this verse, one, the power if from GOD...we need to understand God is here for our benefits and He loves us. Second, we have a GREAT POWER! GOD LIVES IN YOU :) Also, this shows the grace of God once again, it is amazing how He forgave us and wants to be a part of our lives. <3

My favourite part though, in the entire song is this part:

Oh I can see the love in Your eyes

Laying yourself down

Raising up the broken to life

I always envision Jesus on the cross, enduring pain for me. I look Him, and everything makes sense, I look at "the love" in His eyes, and its like new every time I hear this part...I know it was for me, and for you. When He laid himself down, He brought us up to life.

I just love the thought of God putting us back together, almost like a puzzle you know? A puzzle cannot put itself together, it needs someone from the outside , to come and mend them. And at the end, we have become something beautiful, what we were meant to be. Puzzles are not meant to be left as a mess, no, they are meant to be the picture they were created to be. I believe that is what God wants for us as well, He wants us to be what He has created us to be...beautiful vessels for Him :)
