Test Drive and the Secret is Told

Bing Bong was excited but nervous, for today was the big day for their first actual flight test. Hiccup the day before stated they were ready after four successful practice lands and take offs.

Hiccup came with the usual fish and fed Bing Bong before eventually taking off into the air.

Bing Bong felt his nerves rising as they glided through the clouds, praying for this first flight to be a success. Hiccup shifted himself in the saddle.

"Okay there, bud. We're gonna take this nice and slow," Hiccup said, petting his dragon friend on the shoulder. Bing Bong grunted a bit, not yet revealing his secret while Hiccup looked down at his cheat sheet.

"Position, three, no four!" He adjusted his foot in the stirrup, and Bing Bong felt his own new tail move in that position. It went well so far, even flying through an outcrop underneath a bunch of seagulls. Bing Bong smiled at the fact that it was going well.

"Yes! It worked!" Hiccup cheered, starting to get overconfident and suddenly caused the duo to smash into a rock. Bing Bong growled in irritation at his clumsiness. "Sorry!" Hiccup winced, before suddenly not paying attention yet again and slamming into another. "That was my fault!"

Bing Bong slapped him with his ear, making Hiccup yelp. "Yeah, yeah, I'm on it!" He exclaimed, glancing at his paper again. "Position four... no, three." He guided Bing Bong to fly upward into the clouds. Bing Bong smiled, the wind blowing in his face, tongue hanging out like a dog. This was so fun!

"Oh, this is amazing! The wind in my—cheat sheet!" Yelped Hiccup as he lost his sheet of paper that helped him with flying. "STOP!"

Bing Bong complied, but then things went wrong, Hiccup's strap that held him onto the saddle came loose, and he fell off into the air. The Imaginary Friend could feel himself loosing height as well from not having Hiccup on his back, causing the two to scream out loud as they fell down to the ocean.

Bing Bong writhed in mid air, trying to find Hiccup. "HICCUP!" He screamed in his dragon language, suddenly seeing him falling and spinning nearby. Hiccup did his best to reach out to his friend.

"Y-you gotta try angling yourself!" He yelled. Bing Bong did his best but it was rather difficult, as he ended up accidentally slapping Hiccup with his tail fin.

It wasn't all lost for the friends, thankfully, Hiccup managed to successfully grasp the saddle, pulling himself back on and getting control again. Bing Bong yelped as his wings opened up, the air hitting against them roughly, as they began headed towards dangerous rocks.

He shut his eyes, bracing for being splatted like a pancake. But Hiccup got his courage, throwing away the cheat sheet and going with his instincts, starting to use the saddle stirrups to fly in between them.

Bing Bong peeked open his eyes, finding himself flying swiftly and smoothly through the rock maze. He just couldn't believe what was happening: Hiccup was doing it without the cheat sheet, and flying blind without hitting anything! It was amazing! A small smile appeared on his dragon lips as they did a twirl in between some boulders, until they reached the end. It was successful, they had become one with one another.

"YEAH!" Hiccup cheered, and Bing Bong let out a happy blast of plasma that exploded into a fireball, coming at them. Hiccup frowned. "Aww, come on," he mumbled, as they flew right through the fireball.

....

A while later they landed on a secluded island to rest after their successful flight test. Bing Bong had to stifle his laugh at the sight of Hiccup's wind blown and blackened hair.

I should probably make up for burning his hair, though, he thought, then coughing up half of his fish for him. Hiccup grinned, holding up his fish on a stick that he was cooking.

"Uh, no thanks, I'm good," he said. Then came small chittering growls, from a flock of Terrible Terrors coming for the two, attracted by the fish.

Bing Bong growled protectively, a paw over his fish pile. He had never been too fond of these little beasts that always used to pester him at the Dragon Nest. One grabbed the fish head he barfed out, and another tried to take it from him, but the Terror shot a small flame at his rival, scaring him away, making Bing Bong roll his eyes, until he spotted one of his fish move. Raising his brow, Bing Bong kept watching until the culprit revealed himself.

He hissed, grabbing the fish with his teeth resulting into a tug of war.

"Mine!" Snarled the Terror, but it wasn't strong enough to beat Bing Bong who yanked the fish away, swallowing it and laughing, smirking.

The Terror hissed, readying to shoot fire. Bing Bong just watched, unimpressed, and ended up shooting a small plasma blast into the Terror's mouth, inflating him like a balloon and he fell to the ground in a heap.

Hiccup grinned in amusement. "Hah, not so fireproof on the inside, are ya? Here you go," he said, offering his fish, which the Terror ate up enthusiastically. The Terror then did an unexpected move, it curled up beside Hiccup like any cat would, purring as any cat would.

Hiccup petted the Terror, while Bing Bong continued eating his fish, hearing Hiccup say, "Everything we know about you guys is wrong!"

Bing Bong then made up his mind to reveal his secret to Hiccup as soon as they came back to the cove.

....

The two landed near evening, Hiccup smiling as he gathered up his stuff to leave. But Bing Bong nudged his back, crooning softly. "What is it, Toothless?" He asked, chuckling from what he did.

Now or never... Bing Bong took a breath, and spoke. "Uh, my name's not really Toothless," he revealed awkwardly. Hiccup gasped, eyes rounding, as he slipped and fell, panting. "Wha-y-you can t-talk?!" He shouted in surprise. Bing Bong nodded.

"Yeah, I could talk before I was even a dragon. I used to be an Imaginary Friend to a young girl named Riley. But then I fell into the Memory Dump, and well, here we are," he said, shifting his paws.

Hiccup couldn't really believe it at first, especially since the Night Fury could talk. But the way he spoke about being friends with this Riley, he could feel the truth radiating in his gaze, and smiled.

"Well T-I mean, Bing Bong, it seems we have quite a lot to talk about. But I have a feeling this makes us friends more than before," he said honestly, scratching him behind the ear.

Bing Bong ended up smiling, glad that Hiccup was able to understand, and looking forward to talking to him some more!
