Forbidden Friendship

The next morning dawned as Bing Bong woke, smelling fish, and spotted one being thrown into the cove.

Huh? Have fish started jumping out of the lake for me? Bing Bong thought, tilting his head, before standing up and hiding behind a boulder, smelling a familiar scent. The boy was back.

The boy was the one who brought the fish, picking it up after leaving his shield stuck between the rocks, looking around nervously. Bing Bong crouched on his rock, eyes narrowed, a small growl rumbling. He wouldn't hurt this child, but felt rather defensive after being trapped for a couple days.

He slunk down from behind the rock, the boy gasping from his sudden appearance, clutching the fish close to his chest, legs shaking, as the dragon arched his back, sniffing.

The fish smelled wonderful, Salmon, which became his favorite. Bing Bong's defense went down a little, slinking closer, opening his gummy mouth to eat, when he smelled the dagger, making him lean back, baring his teeth, eyes slitted.

Hiccup winced, but then realizing the dragon must've smelt his weapon, and was reacting to it. So, doing the sensible but reckless thing, he took it out, and dropped it. No knife, I'm defenseless. He thought, as if the Fury could understand.

Bing Bong eyed the dagger falling to the ground but it wasn't satisfying, for he still didn't quite trust the child. He directed his head to the lake. Hiccup complied, picking up the dagger with his boot and threw it in.

Then Bing Bong finally relaxed, sitting upright, his eyes dilated this time, tilting his head, purring. Hiccup didn't expect this, holding out the fish. Bing Bong opened his mouth to show his gummed jaws again, surprising Hiccup.

"Huh, Toothless. But I could've sworn you had—what?!" He gasped.

Bing Bong smirked, shooting out his teeth, grabbing the fish, and swallowing it whole, sighing in relief as it quenched his hunger a bit, licking his lips, laughing silently at the look on the human's shocked look.

"Teeth," squeaked Hiccup, frozen in his position. Bing Bong then moved in close, tilting his head and giving his cooing noises. Hiccup backed into a rock.

"Oh, no, no! No! I-I don't have anymore!" He gulped, his face so close to the dragon's. Bing Bong noticed again the skinny appearance, and thinking he was hungry, coughed out half of his fish onto his lap.

Okay... why do I still do that? The former Imaginary Friend asked himself, a little disgusted too, but kept his face as dragon like as he could, backing up, and sitting again, waiting for the boy to eat.

The boy looked down at the fish then up at his unusual companion, who kept staring, and looked insistent. Sighing, knowing he had no choice, Hiccup groaned, biting into the raw half eaten fish, which tasted terrible. He didn't swallow though, trying to look like he enjoyed it.

Bing Bong didn't buy it, making a swallowing noise, which forced the boy to reluctantly swallow that fish, shuddering as it hit his stomach. This caused Bing Bong to do his best smile, showing his gums, though it felt awkward. Hiccup couldn't help but chuckle at that, deciding to get brave and held out his hand.

Just this one hand motion brought up Bing Bong's sensitive defensive side again, growling, and gliding to the other side of the lake, where he decided to warm up the ground with his plasma and take a nap.

He was woken a while later to hearing a bird chirp, to see the boy sitting a while away from him, grinning nervously and waving. Bing Bong wasn't in the mood, curling up, and hiding his face with his tail fin.

Hiccup wouldn't give up, shifting closer, holding out his hand again to touch the tail, but the Fury growled, glaring, and Hiccup walked off, feeling awkward, and Bing Bong moved to a different area, where he climbed up a tree and dangled from his tail like a bat, folding his wings around him.

Mid afternoon, Bing Bong peeked an eye open while still hanging, seeing something different that his visitor was doing. Tilting his head curiously, he jumped to the ground, walking toward him.

For Hiccup decided to be patient for the dragon, and just began to casually sit, and draw absentmindedly in the dirt, drawing the Fury. Bing Bong was reminded of how Riley used to draw him all the time. And now it was happening again. So, he too decided to try drawing.

He stood, walking over to a tree branch and grabbed it in his jaws, beginning to trace crude lines in the dirt. The former Imaginary Friend wasn't a professional, but it was the best he could do.

Hiccup was just in amazement, watching this unholy offspring of lightning and death, actually drawing! After he did as many lines as he could, Bing Bong stood back, smiling at his 'masterpiece'.

The boy stood, and stepped on one of his lines. Bing Bong growled, making him flinch, and lifted it up, making Bing Bong calm again. Hiccup had an idea. Smirking, he played with the dragon, shifting his moods as he stepped on the lines, until he stopped and stepped on the other side.

Bing Bong smiled at how the boy played with him, and watched his companion stepping over the lines of his drawing as if he were dancing. It truly felt like a special moment watching it all, as the boy grew closer.

Hiccup stopped in his tracks, feeling the dragon breathing. He gazed up in awe, the Fury's gentle eyes watching. There just seemed something different, not dragon at all about him. Holding his breath, Hiccup moved his hand to touch him.

Bing Bong tensed, growling, still not trustful. The boy had another idea, holding out the hand again, but this time turning his head away. Bing Bong's eyes grew round. He sniffed. A good smell radiated off of the boy, his nose shifting closer, inches away.

Hiccup tensed too as he felt a scaly nose hit his palm. Opening his eyes, he gaped at what was happening; he was touching a dragon!

Bing Bong felt a familiar spark, a spark of friendship just like Riley's too. Perhaps, it could work between him and this boy. But then he felt the boy's eyes on him. Bing Bong pulled back, snorting, then going away to rest and think about what had happened.
