Act of Mercy
Hiccup sighed in annoyance, crossing off yet another mark in his journal after still not finding the Night Fury.
"Ugh, the gods hate me. Some people loose their knife or their mug, but no, not me, I have to lose an entire dragon!" Out of his anger, he slapped a branch that hit him back in the face.
Looking up, he gasped as he saw a broken down tree split all the way to the bottom, as well as the ground all messed up, too.
Hiccup moved closer, looking over the hill, and gasped as he saw the beast there, unconscious and tied up. He actually shot it down!
Gulping, he drew his knife, rolling over behind a boulder, watching the Fury still unconscious. He stepped out, unable to believe it.
"Oh, wow, I-I did it. This fixes everything. Yes!" He put a foot on the dragon's front paw. "I have brought down this mighty beast!" Then the dragon moaned, throwing him off, making Hiccup back away in fear, seeing the dragon's green eyes open and staring right at him.
....
Bing Bong's head was on fire with pain, as he opened his eyes, finding himself lying down and tied from head to foot in the woods, unable to move much.
Just perfect. I just hope things don't get any worse... Bing Bong thought, before suddenly seeing a human coming close, holding a knife. He was rather skinny, and nothing more than a child. Huh. Not what he expected from who shot him down.
Bing Bong kept his eyes closed, pretending to be unconscious, as the kid put a foot on his own, talking proudly to himself. Grunting in irritation, Bing Bong shoved him away, opening his eyes again, staring right into the new child's eyes.
The two of them stared at one another for a time, before the child spoke again, holding out his knife.
"I'm gonna kill you, dragon. I-I'm gonna gut out your heart and take it to my father. I'm a Viking..." he said softly before his voice grew braver. "I'm a Viking!"
Here we go again... Bing Bing thought miserably, staring sadly up at the boy, who was trying to appear brave, but failing, his hands shaking. Bing Bong moaned as he shut his eyes, awaiting a possible death, looking forward to seeing Ashia again.
....
Hiccup couldn't do it. He couldn't kill somebody so helpless like this. His arms lowered, giving a defeated sigh. He looked away, then looked down at his knife, coming to a decision.
I'm sorry, father.
Taking the knife, Hiccup began to saw through the rope to free the Night Fury.
...
Bing Bong heard the rope breaking, and his eyes snapped open in surprise. What was the kid doing? Is he asking for a death wish?
He could feel the ropes loosening, feeling more movement. As the boy cut the last of it off, Bing Bong moved swiftly, roaring, and pinning the boy against a rock with his paw.
The boy was completely terrified out of his mind, as Bing Bong stared down at the one who nearly killed him; his dragon instincts beginning to override his memories again. But then something hit his soul; the way Hiccup's eyes were reminded him so much of Riley, pulling him back to his senses. Bing Bong couldn't let the dragon in him kill the boy who chose to let him live.
He bared his fangs, pulling his head back. Hiccup flinched, waiting for his death. But all the Fury did was roar, right into his face.
Bing Bong jumped off of him, and flew away, the boy fainting from the experience, still seeing the child's face in his mind's eye, trying to fly away, but not as graceful as he used to. before he could figure out what was wrong, he gave a scream, falling into a cove below, splashing into the small pond.
He climbed out, shaking the water off his body, wincing, glancing about at the intimidating stone walls. Once again Bing Bong was trapped in another pit, another one he couldn't fly out of, for he tried, only to fall on his side in a heap.
What happened to me? He thought, looking at his tail, and the Imaginary Friend's face fell, seeing one of his tail fins completely ripped off. With only one, he couldn't fly anymore. He was flightless, and a prisoner in this new pit.
Guess I should rest to figure out how to get out tomorrow, Bing Bong decided.
He wondered something though as he curled up to fall asleep; why didn't that Viking child kill him? Why?
