A New Body and a Friend
Birds twittered, and waves crashed against rocks, waking Bing Bong from his slumber, groaning. What had happened to him?
He struggled to sit, body feeling strangely different. Why do I feel like a reptile? Wait...
Bing Bong gasped, looking down at his hands, which were huge black scaly paws now. Spotting a small pool, he looked down into it, and screamed, a scream that echoed through the trees, causing birds to fly away.
"AAAAUUUGGGHH!"
Bing Bong staggered about in his new body, waddling on all fours, and panting when he suddenly caught the sight of his new tail, which had tail fins on it. This wasn't his natural body! Why had they done this to him, turning him into a black monster? He was supposed to be a cuddly Imaginary Friend!
He looked back in the pool believing he was dreaming, but no, the dragon with his scared expression continued looking back up at him with slitted green eyes. Strangely enough, he seemed to have no teeth, until they shot out of his mouth, retractable teeth, of course.
Bing Bong's new heart raced a million miles, having a small panic attack and wondering how he was gonna survive in this new dragon body.
"Calm down, Bing Bong, calm down. They must have some reason for changing you into this...thing. I just need to figure it out," he said, breathing shakily, sitting down, staggering a little.
He studied his surroundings, seeing himself in a dense forest cliff side, with the pool nearby. All new scents hit his nostrils, and his dragon ears pricked at the many different sounds that were strange after the quietness of the Long-Term Memory. It was rather pleasant, hearing birds chirping, the breeze gently brushing against his scales, making him purr in delight, closing his eyes.
Is this what it is like to be truly alive? Was this how my Riley felt, breathing the fresh air, enjoying every little thing about it?
Bing Bong breathed a small sigh after his small moment, before realizing he didn't know where to go. He looked about nervously, crouching down. What if some scary creature found him and wanted to eat him?
But then his wings ruffled. He had wings. Perhaps, he could fly? Bing Bong gave a smile, raising his 60 foot wingspan, letting them catch the breeze under them.
He yelped as he felt his body rising into the air. Bing Bong stumbled in the air before crashing back to the ground, since he wasn't used to his new wings yet.
Bing Bong panted slightly, winded, pushing himself to his feet, before hearing a voice in the trees.
"You aren't from around here, are you young one?"
Bing Bong jumped, arching his back like a cat, eyes rounding. He could smell another dragon. A huge female came out, who had two hind feet with sharp claws, but pushed itself forward with its wings. She smiled when she saw him.
Bing Bong shook his head, backing away. "J-just don't do anything funny, huh?" He said nervously. But she chuckled.
"No, I never attack Night Furies such as yourself. But your not like any Night Fury I've encountered. Where did you come from?"
Bing Bong's eyes darted back and forth, feeling shocked that he was turned into a dragon, a Night Fury, wondering how to explain he was from another world, and a little girl's imaginary friend at that. Instead, he said:
"I-I'm from far across the ocean. Traveled quite far," he said awkwardly. But the dragon raised his brow, and he gave in, sighing.
"Fine, I'm not a dragon, but used to be a human girl named Riley's Imaginary Friend." He revealed. The dragon nodded.
"I'm glad you chose to be honest. It is time I introduced myself, my name is Ashia. The humans of this world call my kind the Monstrous Nightmare."
Bing Bong nodded, now knowing she wouldn't attack him. "My name is Bing Bong," he said in a shy voice. "I've never really spoke to a dragon before." Yeah, he knew what dragons were.
Ashia chuckled. "Guess that can be people's reactions when coming to a new world. But perhaps I can help you adjust?"
He crouched on his front paws, feeling sadness beginning to come, realizing he may never return home or see Riley and Joy, and Sadness ever again. But this could be a new chance to begin anew, develope new skills, and make new friends, so looking up, Bing Bong gave a small nod.
"Okay," he said softly, standing up again. "Thank you. This place is strange to me. I've Earth through my girl's eyes, but not out of my own."
Ashia smiled softly. "I'll start by teaching you to fly. And you can stay with me at my nest with our Queen after I convince her until we find a place of your own. So first, you need to raise your wings again, and let the wind carry them, don't struggle against it."
Bing Bong took one or two breaths, feeling nervous about falling again, but raised them, the warm breeze caressing the undersides. He closed his eyes, trying to visualize himself flying, when his body rose into the air, much more graceful than before.
He opened his eyes, crying out at the sight of himself rising from the ground, struggling. But Ashia was there, she leveled him out.
"I'd be calm in your position," she said in a joking manner. He rolled his eyes, calming himself down, steadying his wings. It was amazing, he was really flying!
Bing Bong smiled, getting brave, and flapped his wings, flying a little ways away from Ashia, the two of them soaring above the ocean.
Once he got the hang of flying, Bing Bong and Ashia began their journey to Ashia's home nest, soaring for quite some time across the sea. She told him many stories about each dragon from the different classes, like the Changewing, Terrible Terror, Gronckle, etc, to name a few.
"The Skrill finally is a lightning based dragon, it is powerful enough to draw lighting right from a thunderstorm and store it in its skin. It comes second best to a Night Fury to many a Viking human," Ashia said. Bing Bong's eyes rounded with amazement, he never knew dragons did so many things!
He turned around, gasping at the blanket of fog in front of them, including an intimidating looking volcano mountain.
"Um, huge mountain coming!" He exclaimed, halting right in front of the fog. Ashia laughed.
"That's just my home, Bing Bong, come on. I want to show you what it looks like!"
The Nightmare flew into the fog, Bing Bong following. For a brief moment he was scared, and couldn't find her.
"Ashia? Ashia? Where are you?!" He said in a scared voice. But fortunately she was still there.
"I'll never abandon you, Bing Bong. Don't worry," she said gently, flying close. Bing Bong sighed a little with relief, before he accidentally bumped into someone.
"Watch it, Clumsy Fury!" The female's voice hissed. It was a young Deadly Nadder with blue and white scales. She glared hard at him. Bing Bong grinned nervously.
"Er, uh, sorry," he said awkwardly. But all she did was flip her tail at him and fly to the mountain with prey in her talons.
Bing Bong frowned. "Well she was cheerful," he muttered.
"That's just young Freya. Her family are pretty fierce and vain for their Nadder species. But she warms up to others when you get to know her. But we have to go in now, the Queen is expecting us," Ashia said, guiding Bing Bong to the entrance.
"Uh, Ashia, who is this Queen? I forgot to ask," Bing Bong questioned nervously, staring around in amazement at the Dragon Nest. There were so many dragons around, mostly Gronckles, Nadders, Nightmares, and Terrors.
Before Ashia could answer, there was a rumbling growl that seemed to make the whole mountain tremble. He gasped in small fear, arching his back, at the sight of a huge, and he meant HUGE dragon's head coming from the volcano center. She had fierce glowing yellow eyes, and overlarge teeth.
"ASHIA, YOU HAVE RETURNED WITH NO FOOD, BUT A STRANGER..." she growled. Her voice echoed in Bing Bong's head. He crouched down.
"He is lost, my Queen. I wish to teach him how we do things here, please?" She asked. The Queen looked down on this new one, growling silently before nodding.
"THIS ONE IS A FRIGHTENED, COWARDLY HATCHLING. HE MUST PROVE TO BE THE UNHOLY OFFSPRING OF LIGHTNING AND DEATH BY SERVING ME WELL, OR ELSE HE'S BANISHED..." she hissed darkly.
Bing Bong nodded. She scared him, sure, but this was a new world, and he wanted to prove he belonged, even if he was a dragon.
"Y-yes, you're majesty. I-I'll do my best," he replied in a small voice. The Queen gave him the smallest nod, going back down into her hole to rest. Ashia gestured him to follow.
"Come, young one, to my nest." Bing Bong followed her to a small ledge with a pile of nest materials. Ashia moved some of it around to make room for him.
"Tomorrow begins your first lesson, Bing Bong," Ashia said in a sleepy voice, curling up. Bing Bong smiled sleepily, lying next to her. He was looking forward to learning these new lessons of living in this body, though he still missed playing with Riley, with all of his heart.
A small yawn escaped him as he fell asleep.
