Through his eyes - Part 25
A/N: Look at that! Two updates in one week! I feel so proud. Well it is my birthday on Saturday, so I thought I would give you guys all a little present. :) Enjoy!
Connor POV (it's been a while hasn't it?)
She's gone....
Because of me.....
I was supposed to watch her back and make sure she was safe. I promised Percy I would protect her, but instead I hurt her, I got her killed.......I'm a monster.
If I look close enough at the ocean, I can see the ripples from where she landed. I could have grabbed her, I could have slide down toward her, I could have grabbed the cable. I could have...I could have...I could have done something. Now the one thing I had in my life is gone. Because of me. I thought losing her the way I did earlier was bad. This.....this is so much worse.
A small voice shakes me out of my thoughts. I look over and see a comm device lying on the floor. A little voice is talking from it I pick it up and place it in my ear.
"Agent Carson where are you! Lexi! Lexi do you copy!" An unfamiliar voice says.
Taking a deep breath I answer in to comm, tears falling down my face, "This...this is Agent Griffen....Lexi...she....saved m-me...but...she...fell..off..the...carrier."
Then I just lose it. All of that composure. Gone. I break down crying. I saw people die at camp and their boyfriend or girlfriend crying over them, but I never thought that it would be me. I thought I would go down first trying to protect her. I guess when reality hits you the first time, it will hurt the most.
After that everything is a blur. I remember Agent Romanoff appearing all of a sudden with a couple other agents including Sammy and Owen and leading me to the infirmary and laying me in a bed. But all I can think about right now is Lexi as I stagger through the maze of hallways. Her smile, her cute little snort when she laughs. The way her face lit up every time she shot a bullseye with her bow.
"Griffen...Earth to Connor. Snap out of it!" Romanoff states, snapping her fingers in front of my face to get my attention.
"What?!" I ask looking down at my hands that are now in restraints.
"Tell me what happened." Romanoff asks, a little more gently this time; walking to the end of the room and making some coffee for herself, keeping an eye on Agent Barton who is unconscious on the bed on the other side of the room.
"I don't want to talk about it." I murmur, thinking about the way Lexi used to smile.
"Well you either have to tell me or Fury and I have a feeling you don't want to tell Fury first." Romanoff says, sitting down across from me on the side of Barton's bed.
"Where do you want me to start?" I ask, letting the sadness creep into my voice.
"New Mexico."
//Flashback//
"You have heart." Loki said and touched the scepter to Barton's chest. The blue light creeped up his neck and his eyes turned solid black for minute. My heart pounded as I hid behind some of the computers. I had to get Fury and the Tesseract out of here. I pick up Hawkeye's hidden spare bow and shoot at Loki distracting him from Fury. He charges over to me and I try to put as much space as I can between him and me. Keyword being try.
Loki grabs my hand and I try to wrench myself away from him. Keyword again being try. "You have knowledge son of Athena. That could be handy." Loki smiles and touches the scepter to my chest.
The world goes black and I can't remember what I was just doing. But I look over at the man holding my hand.
"Now you have a purpose mortal. You answer to me now."
"Yes sir." I respond respectfully. I look around and see the world in a new perspective. Loki opened my eyes, SHIELD was using me to gain power. Regular humans were trying to do the same. I must follow Loki's lead.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"You got the iridium?"
"It's coming Griffen."
I hear a crowd scream and yell from the other side of the museum. I turn around as Barton takes the iridium out and scan the area. My eyes rest on a security camera directly across from us. I turn around, not worried about it. We'll be long gone before they see the footage.
Then we walk back to the jet and I look back at the crowd. I see a girl holding a silver and blue bow and aiming an arrow straight at Loki along with a man dressed patriotically and a man in a red and gold metal suit.
Pffth that little girl's going to be a pushover.
"Hey Barton, leave me to take out the tiny one. She seems like an easy target"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"You ready to see the world through your own eyes Agent Griffen? Ready to help to take out your assigned target" Loki says once I find him. I have orders to get him to the top level where a jet is waiting for us.
"Sir we should get off the plane before any of the agents or find you. But I would be happy to help take out the girl" I say, confused at his actions. "Good." He walks up to me and touches the scepter to my chest. Then I feel like the world spins around me. My vision clears, the blue taint that I didn't even notice fades away and I fall over with the visual and mental overload.
"W-what just happened?" I say, looking up only to see the person who got me in this mess; Loki.
"You were used in the way you feared. Now your precious girl is going to have to die because of you. You did want to help kill her as I recall." Loki sneered as a barrier formed around me.
I get up and try and break the barrier. Nothing works.
"Ahh, as expected, here comes your insolent little girlfriend right now. And by the way if she breaks you out, you will become my soldier again."
I gulp and look over at the hopefully locked door only to see it blow up right in front of me. When the dust clears I see her, bow loaded with a look that could kill. Which immediately dissipates when she sees me.
"Connor!" Lexi yells and runs up to me. My heart drops to the floor as I watch her slam into the barrier.
"For a person who deals with magic, I'm surprised you didn't see that coming," Loki jeers at Lexi.
I put my hand on the barrier, wishing I could break through and get to her. She puts her hand where it would have met mine.
"Lexi get out of here, he wants to kill you! I can't let that happen!" I shout to her.
She gives me a blank look and then it strikes me that she can't hear me. Wonderful.
"Loki, you really are treading a fine line. One more snarky comment and I'm gonna shoot your eye off." Lexi spits, a deep anger in her voice that I have never heard before. Its terrifying to see her like this. She was always so carefree, I never saw the angry/fearsome side of her.
"Oooooohhh," Loki sneers at her. "Don't you seem feisty today, it is a wonder what you insolent people do for those they love and care about. It makes you mortals pathetic and weak and childish. In the end, you will all kneel to me."
"In your wildest dreams Loki." She says and launches herself at him. The moment she starts fighting him I try slamming against the barrier. I can't let her die on me. She means too much to me. My eyes go wide as she expertly shoots at him with her bow, and dodges almost all of his attacks. It's like she has been practicing for all her life. Then he blasts her with his scepter but misses and takes out the ground under her. But she nimbly swings over the wreckage and lands on her feet. She looks over at me, her eyes looking very calculating. I know that look, she has a plan.
Oh my gods we are all going to die.
As Loki comes rushing at her, trying to overwhelm her, she pulls out a taser arrow and shoots Loki with it. While he is down, she runs over to me as I slam helplessly on the barrier. She looks over the barrier, looking for something. She pressed her hand into one part of the barrier and leaves a little piece of ice there.
Loki then tackles her away and I slam against the barrier, trying to get to her. But then I notice the ice that she left on the barrier quickly growing all over the barrier.
Then I see Loki standing over Lexi who is lying on the floor, slowly pulling herself up. He..has an ice dagger in his hand.
"Death by ice, I never thought you were one for irony." Loki throws the dagger at Lexi and I scream for her as it sails through the air. But when it hits her, the dagger immediately melts, splashing her with water that I can tell sharpened her senses.
"Bad move Loki," Lexi smiles. The ice that surrounds me bursts and I get a sudden nauseating rush to the head and I fall to the ground. My vision slowly starts to fade to blue again.
I feel someone pull me close and I look up into those gorgeous dark brown eyes.
"Lexi...." I try to speak as the scepter's power takes over. I hear her say a couple words trying to help me but...all of my control was gone. Lexi must have noticed because she cried and gave me a slight kiss on the forehead. Just as she stood up, Loki got her.
I hear a sharp noise and from my vantage point on the floor (note the sarcasm) I see part of the scepter sticking out through her stomach. This was definitely much worse than before. Part of my mind is still awake so I know what's going on but now, I can't control my own hands. I pick myself up and walk over to Loki.
Then everything is a blur. I remember beating up Lexi and not being able to do anything about it. She swept my feet out from under me and I landed hard on my head.
Shaky, I blinked, back in control of my body. "W-what the?" I looked over to Lexi and found her bleeding out on the floor.
"Oh my gods Lexi!" I yell and slide over to her. I see the bruises on her from my own hands.
"D-did I do this?" I ask in disbelief.
She weakly shakes her head, "I-It was Loki. I-It's not your fault..."
"I could have done something...." I say, looking over her wounds.
"You did, you got Loki out of your head. You did everything you could Connor." She smiles weakly.
Then the helicarrier tips, pulling us down into the ground. Lexi notices something above me and pushes me aside. I slam into some of the wreckage near to us and look back at her. All I see is a hole in the ground.
I run over to it and see her dangling from a dangerously thin cable.
"LEXI!" I shout over the wind. I hold out my hand as she desperately tries to climb up the cable. Then just as I think that we might be okay, just as our fingertips brush, the cable snaps and the wind blows her out of sight.
//End of Flashback//
"Is that enough for you Agent Romanoff?" I ask glumly resting back in the bed.
"Oh its plenty. Enough to make me hate Loki even more." She responds, tilting her head, looking like she wants to ask something. After a minute I realize what she is wondering.
"I don't think there is any way she survived that fall. Even though her brother survived a jump from the top of the St. Louis arch, I don't think she can survive a twenty thousand foot drop into open ocean."
"I see." Romanoff walks up to me and undos my restraints. "We're gonna avenge her Connor. I promise you that."
I look up at her face and she gives me a weak smile. "Thanks. By the way I didn't know you were close to her."
Romanoff smiles. "She was closest to this guy and Coulson out of anyone." She says, gesturing at Barton. "But she was always so upbeat. She seemed like the version of me who grew up with a happier life but ended up in the same place. And that just wants to make me kick Loki's godly ass even more."
I let out a smile. You will be avenged Lexi. You won't have died in vain.
Lexi POV (WHHAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTT!!)
Am I dead? I probably am dead with my luck. I hear voices around me. Muffled voices. The world sways around me and I feel something pull me toward the ground from all sides. Everything is slow though. I hit something solid and..
A/N: No I couldn't kill Lexi ;) She's like Loki, she can't die no matter how hard her writer tries ;)
