Chapter 1

It was mid day and Toby was exceptionally bored in school. He sat in the back of his math class as the teacher gave a lecture about some theory that he didn't care to listen to. In all actuality, the only thing Toby cared about at the moment was how long it would take for the minute hand of the clock to hit 12 already. Lunch was next period and he wanted to find his friend, Tim, as he had been absent from school the day prior. Tim was probably the only true friend Toby had. Tim had never seemed to give much thought to Toby's appearance. His friend didn't even care about his ''condition''. He didn't feel bad for Toby, and Toby respected him for it. Sympathy was something he had looked down on. So many people with so many problems, yet his were so far worse then the kids his age.

The teacher was wrapping up the lecture when the bell rang, dismissing the students from their classes. The teacher yelled something about a pop-quiz that was muffled by the classes footsteps as they rushed to file out the door and head to the lunch room. Toby didn't have much more then a zip up binder he carried from class to class, so he put away his unused pencil and graph paper neatly into the binder's rings and made his way out the door.

About half way to the lunch room, Toby heard someone yell behind him:

"Rogers, Think fast!"

As soon as he turned around, a basketball which was previously sailing through the air, collided with his gut. The ball was thrown hard enough that it managed to knock the wind out of him and forced him to lean over holding his stomach. A few people in the hallway saw and giggled as they kept towards the lunch room. The basketball rolled away from Toby and was picked up by a boy in a jersey. The boy had at least six others trailing close behind them but Toby was not in a position to see their faces.

The boys broke out into laughter and encircled Toby. some of them spoke up out of their laughter.

"Wow Rogers! That's the biggest twitch I've ever seen!"

"Yeah Ticci! that's gotta be a new record or something!"

"He just wont stop twitching!"

"Well not with hair like that! He's probably got fleas all over em'!"

The boys all broke out into laughter and started to walk off.

"Sorry Ticci Toby! I'd pat you on the back if I hadn't just washed my hands!"

Toby was left alone and had almost fully regained his breath when a familiar voice sounded to his side.

"Basketball guys again?"

Toby knew it was Tim and nodded his head.

"Are you hurt?"

Toby looked up at him in a sarcastic manner.

"Oh right, stupid question."

Toby didn't feel pain. It was a rare disorder with a name too complex for him to care to want to remember.

Toby stood up straight and spoke up to Tim:

"Lets get going to lunch. Oh and where were you yesterday?"

The both walked down the hallway towards lunch.

"Why? Did you miss me?"

"Yeah right. I missed your food. I don't have anything to pick off of when you aren't here."

"You know what Rogers, I killed Brandon the last time he tried to take my food. You should consider yourself lucky"

The two boys chatted on as the headed to the lunch room. They sat across from one another and had casual conversation, as they always did and parted. Tim and Toby shared lunch and last period, science, together. They had been friends for about two years now and had managed to get close to no classes together. Again.

Toby and Tim made it through another relatively quiet day at school and Toby was picked up by his mother and sister and taken home to lay in his bed and fall asleep.
