Chapter 4

Sofia sighed as she swung her sword around lazily while pacing on the roof.

She was feeling rather indecisive after a so far uneventful night. She was taking her usual break where she would grab a bite to eat at some late nigth cafe or corner store, but she couldn't decide on what she wanted.

"Hey, Shadow, how've you been?"

She was ripped out of her thoughts and whipped her head around. Her eyes went wide when she saw the face of the blue masked turtle before her.

"Blue?" Sofia spoke as a smile spread across her face. "What are you doing out here? Where are your brothers?"

"They're back at home. I needed to clear my head and meditation wasn't helping. What about you?" Leo walked closer while Sofia sheathed her katana.

"Thinking about what I want to eat. I'm not really that hungry tonight though," Sofia answered as she pulled her mask down.

Leo hummed as he smiled at her. "Well, I don't have anything on me. Sorry."

"Don't worry about it. Anything interesting happen for you guys?" She asked, sitting on the edge of the roof.

"Nothing other than more training. Oh, but there was an incident where Mikey got himself into trouble with Chris Bradford. We found out that there are other ninjas here," Leo explained while he took a seat beside her. "Did you know anything about that."

"No, I didn't. I was surprised to find that you guys were even here. So now there's more? And I'm assuming from your tone that they are not friendly?"

"Absolutely not," Leo confirmed with a nod. "They're from the foot clan. They're our enemies."

"Any enemy of your is an enemy of mine. You guys are cool and I wanna help you whenever I can," Sofia said as she smiled.

"Well, what have you been up to since we last saw each other?" Leo asked curiously.

"Nothing interesting. I'm homeschooled so I do school till two o'clock and then training until dinner. After dinner I usually meditate and then I come out here for patrol. This is always the highlight of my day," Sofia admitted as she looked over the city. "And now I get the surprise of seeing you at night too."

Leo rubbed the back of his neck as he smiled at her. "I guess we are kinda fun to be around."

"Out of curiosity, how long have you guys been training and fighting the Kraang?"

"Oh, well, we've been training in the art of ninjitsu for as long as I can remember. Our father is a great ninjitsu master so he passed down his art to us. But we've never been up to the surface until the first night we met. That was actually our mutation day. We don't know when our birthday is so we celebrate our mutation day," Leo explained.

"Dang, if I'd known I would've gotten you a present," Sofia joked as she nudged him, pulling a laugh from the turtle.

"Meeting you was a present enough," Leo shot back.

"That's so sweet." Sofia laughed lightly as she crossed her legs up on the edge of the roof.

"How come you won't tell us your name?" Leo asked as he turned his body towards her. She followed suit, turning herself towards the mutant.

"Think of it as a little game," she replied as she leaned forward a bit. "You have to guess. Each time we meet, you get three guesses."

"And if I get it right? What do I get?" Leo asked as he looked at her.

"Hmm, I'll surprise you. How 'bout that?" Sofia replied with a wink.

Leo hummed with a nod. "I can work with that. My first guess is gonna be... Emily?"

"Nope," Sofia denied as she shook her head.

"Alright. Then... Selena?"

"Wrong!"

"Um, Rose?"

"Err, err. Out of guesses," Sofia replied and he slumped.

"There's millions of names," Leo complained.

"You'll get it one day." She patted his shoulder with a giggle.

"Hey, by the way, what was that language you were speaking the other day on the phone?" Leo asked as he lifted his head again.

"Oh, Italian! My father and uncle grew up in Italy before my parents moved. After my parents passed away, I came here to live with my uncle. I've been here since I was eleven," Sofia explained as she let one leg down to swing over the edge if the roof.

"I'm so sorry about your parents," Leo said with a sympathetic look.

"Oh, don't be. Things happen that are out of our control. I do miss them, but I know that they are watching over me and that me living my life is what they would want. Plus, I love living here with my uncle. If I didn't, I never would've met you. That would be a tragedy." Sofia smiled brightly.

Leo chuckled and shook his head.

"You know, you still owe me a sparring match," Sofia reminded to which Leo perked up.

"Oh, right! We could go right now!" He suggested, his sapphire eyes sparkling in the lights from the city.

"Let's do it!" Sofia hopped up and pulled her katanas as Leo followed suit.

"You ready?"

"Ready as I'll ever be."

"Hey, where did Leo go?" Mikey asked as he rolled around on the floor, looking up at Raph.

"He said he was going to clear his head, but he has been out for a while," Raph replied, peering over top of his comic.

"What if the Kraang got him!" Mikey freaked.

"I highly doubt that the Kraang got him, Mikey," Donnie argued with a grimace.

"Well, he's obviously out having fun without us," Raph complained.

"We gotta go find him!" Mikey shouted.

"I'm in," Raph said and Donnie nodded in agreement.

"Where are you off to, my sons?" Splinter spoke up as he walked towards the three turtles who were leaving the lair.

"Going to find Leo!" Mikey shouted.

"Just be careful," Splinter reminded and they nodded before running off.

The turtles went topside and scaled a fire escape to get to the rooftops.

"Which way do you think he went?" Mikey asked as he looked around.

"I'm thinking right," Donnie guessed as he pointed to the right.

"Works for me," Raph replied with a shrug before running off with his brothers.

They were running and hopping from roof to roof for a few minutes when they heard the sound of metal on metal.

"Guys, this way!" Donnie motioned for then to go towards the sound.

They snuck onto the roof where the sound was coming from. Peering around a vent shaft, they could see their eldest brother and Shadow going at it pretty intensely.

"Shadow's evil?" Mikey shrieked quietly.

"I think they're just sparring. They don't look like their trying to kill each other," Donnie replied as he watched with curiosity.

"Phew!" Mikey let out a breath of relief as he relaxed.

They all watched in surprise as Shadow knocked one of Leo's swords from his hand. She took the moment of distraction and kicked the other sword from his other hand. She held her katanas to his neck, one in front and the other behind.

Leo held his hands up in surrender as he caught his breath.

"That was pretty good," Shadow spoke with a smile as she lowered her swords, her own breath heavy as well.

"You're really good at control," Leo complimented.

"And your stance is solid. Honestly, I won by sheer chance," Sofia admitted before she stiffened.

"What? What is it?" Leo asked as he looked around.

"You got any stars?" She asked quietly.

"Yeah, here," Leo said as he handed her one.

Without a word, Sofia turned and flung the star off to the side.

Raph's eyes widened as the star came right at him.

He rumped out of the way, rolling into view.

"Woah, there, Spitfire! Friendly fire!" Raph held his hands up.

"Sorry! I didn't know it was you! I just felt your aura," Shadow admitted.

"What are you guys doing here?" Leo asked as he grabbed his katanas from the ground, sheathing them on his back.

"We were looking for you!" Mikey jumped out as Donnie poked his head up as well.

"Mikey wanted to know why you were taking so long. Didn't realize you were hanging out with your girlfriend," Raph teased and Leo grimaced.

"Well, I just needed to get out if the lair and then I saw Shadow so we sparred," Leo explained.

"We saw the end! You're awesome!" Mikey gushed which made Shadow laugh.

"Thanks, Mikey," Shadow said.

"Where'd you learn to fight like that?" Donnie asked.

"My mom. She was a trained kunoichi. She was very spiritual and taught me everything she could. I continued on in my training with my uncle and now I'm here today," Shadow explained.

"So your uncle in a ninja too?" Raph asked.

"Oh, no, he's just a cop. But he spots me and helps me where he can. I haven't had a proper teacher since my mom died. I use the internet now most of the time," she replied.

"What if you trained with Master Splinter!" Mikey exclaimed.

"Master Splinter?" Shadow quirked a brow. "Is he your sensei?"

"He's our father, but yes. He is our sensei. I'm sure he would love to see your skills," Leo said and Shadow hummed.

"One day, I would love to meet him. But you have to figure out my name first," Shadow reminded, poking his plastron with a smile.

"Is that my prize?" Leo asked as he smiled back at her.

"Nah. Just a bonus," she replied before pulling her mask up. "It was really fun sparring with you, but I've gotta get home before I get in trouble." She walked towards the edge of the roof. "See ya around, Blue."

She turned around and looked at Leo before giving a wink. She jumped backwards before disappearing.

Leo's smile grew as he looked at where she had been standing.

"You are just as bad as Donnie," Raph teased with a grin.

"Hey!" Donnie glared as he crossed his arms over his plastron.

"I'm not that bad! I just think she's really skilled and smart." Leo admitted. "It's not like I like her, even though she is really pretty."

"Whatever you say, chief," Raph replied as he gave Leo's shoulder a pat.

Leo grimaced. "Let's just go home."

Sofia hummed to herself as she opened her window and climbed into her room.

She slipped out of her suit and pulled out her pajamas which comprised of a black crop top as well as a pair of fuzzy red and black plaid fuzzy pants.

She continued humming the random tune as she went to go into the bathroom.

Luca walked down the hallway to see his niece swaying and humming so he quirked a brow.

"Hey, Scoot, you seem chipper," he spoke as he walked towards her.

"Just in a good mood," Sofia replied, smiling at her uncle.

"So I assume patrol went well?" He asked as Sofia went into the bathroom, grabbing her skincare stuff from her cupboard.

"Yeah! There wasn't a lot going on, but then me and Blue sparred for a while. It was fun," she explained to which Luca grinned.

"You sure seem fond of this 'Blue' guy," Luca teased as he nudged her. "When are you gonna let me meet him?"

"It's not like that! I swear! But, I'm sure you'll meet him eventually, but I just don't know if now's the right time," Sofia replied, turning so he wouldn't see her bright cheeks.

"Oh, you don't want me to embarrass you in front of him, right?"

"Yes!" Sofia shoved her uncle playfully and he laughed.

"At least tell me that he's cute," Luca said to which Sofia rolled her eyes. "Well?"

Sofia shrunk into herself a bit, but her smile was evident as she tried not to laugh.

"Oh, so he's hot!"

"Stop!" Sofia's laughter poured out as her cheeks burned.

"Your first boyfriend! I can't believe it!" Luca laughed along with her.

"He's not my boyfriend!"

"Well, not yet!" Luca argued with a grin. "You gotta be bold!"

"It's too soon for that, but I guess he is really adorable and he has definitely got skills. You should've seen how amazing he was tonight! I thought I was good with my swords, but he gave me a run for my money!"

"Now I've got a crush on him!" Luca joked as he leaned against the counter. "Tell me more."

"Oh my God, stop," Sofia shoved him out of the bathroom and he chuckled.

"You know I love you," Luca said as he gave her a quick hug.

"Yeah, I know. I love you too," Sofia replied as she held the door, getting ready to close it.

"Alright, get some sleep. You can tell me all about how you dreamed about him in the morning."

"Goodnight!" Sofia shut the door as she rolled her eyes, but she couldn't stop smiling.

"Goodnight, Scoot," Luca said through the door before going to his room to go to bed.

Sofia washed her face, thinking about her sparring match with Leo. He was absolutely amazing at fighting and she was thoroughly impressed. Every attack and defense between them was like an intricate dance and she wanted it to continue all night.

The thought make her entire face turn red even as she splashed her face with water to rinse it.

She finished up her nightly routine and went into her room, slipping under her covers.

"I hope I see you again soon, Blue," she murmured before she closed her eyes, waiting for sleep to take its hold on her.
