"Oh!" I hear Felix's voice from across the grocery store. Rolling my eyes affectionately, I immediately head over to where he is.
There he is, standing before the fruit section. Felix is scratching his head cluelessly. When he sees me, his face lights up in relief.
"Baby~" he whines, coming up to me. "Why are there so many different types of apples? I don't understand why we need so many species of apples." As he's talking, he wraps an arm around my shoulder and brings me to where he was.
Felix points at the apples. "I don't know which ones to get." he says, pouting a little. I laugh at his antics, which makes him scrunch his nose and poke my shoulder.
"Yah!" He says, laughing a little too. "It's not funny; I really don't know!" I smile at him and kiss his cheek, watching his ears turn red,
"I know," I tell him. "Look, I'll get them, just give me a second." He nods and turns away, looking at the other fruits in the aisle.
I go to grab a bag of apples when I catch a glimpse of someone passing by me. They smell like vanilla and-
Wait, there's no way.
I whirl around to see the back of the person. He's wearing a yellow sweatshirt and faded blue jeans.
"I swore I saw his eyes..." I mutter to myself, watching him disappear around the corner, going to the next aisle.
"What?" Felix's voice startles me and I jerk back a little, torn out of my thoughts. I smile bashfully at him before going to put the apples in the cart.
"Nothing, I just thought I saw someone I knew," I tell Felix. He nods and smiles at me, his eyes lighting up.
"Well, I think we'll all done. Time to go home and make the brownies now, yeah?" I laugh and nod at him, watching as he gets excited and pushes the cart to the checkout line. It's easy to love someone, but not easy to fall in love with someone.
Waiting in the checkout line, I scroll through my phone as we wait. Felix is resting his chin on my shoulder, watching my Instagram feed with me. He'll make the occasional comment on someone's outfit or obvious Photoshopping.
Felix is in the middle of pointing out the obvious filter on a girl's picture when we hear someone behind us.
"Um, excuse me," the man says, an embarrassed smile on his face. I look up at him and somehow refrain from gasping. He's wearing a yellow sweater and faded blue jeans. His brown eyes are just as I remembered, and he's just as beautiful as he was two years ago.
"Kim Seungmin?" I blurt, the words coming out faster than I can stop them. Felix gives me a weird look.
"Ah, you two know each other?" Felix asks, curling his arm around my waist and protectively bringing me into his side. That doesn't go unnoticed by Seungmin; he looks down at where Felix's hand is and his eyes immediately soften.
Seungmin looks up at me, then Felix. He nods once, projecting a smile.
"Yeah, we were-" "Friends," I hurriedly interrupt. "We were just friends." I look up at Felix, ignoring Seungmin's face. I knew if I looked, I would only hurt more.
Felix looks over at Seungmin quickly enough to see the boy's face fall entirely. The smile disappears from Seungmin's face and he sighs, running a hand through his hair.
"He's your boyfriend?" Seungmin asks, masking his hurt behind false curiosity. Felix nods and holds out his hand to him.
"Yeah. Felix," he says, shaking Seungmin's hand. "I'm Seungmin."
They nod at each other, and Seungmin looks down at me. For the first time since I've seen him, I look up at him and make direct eye contact. He's exactly how I remembered.
Smiling at me softly, he waves.
"It was nice to see you again." I nod and try to conjure a smile, but it doesn't work. I can't even talk around him anymore. Seungmin is even more hurt by my lack of a response, but doesn't show it.
Instead, he just nods, and smiling at us once again, walks away. The cashier behind us asks for our groceries, and we begin to give them to her.
I'm just going through the motions of it all, my mind completely occupied by Seungmin's appearance. I've been fine for two years. Two whole years. And he decides to show up now? He's been a big enough problem in my relationship as it is. He won't come between Felix and me. I won't let him.
