[8] He wants to...what?!
I arrive back at school just in time for lunch, but as I turn around, I realise that Will and Alex have disappeared without a trace. I can't believe they ditched me after that! Will owes me a serious explanation.
Suddenly, I hear a familiar voice calling my name. "Kat! There you are! I've been looking for you all day," Chase says as he rushes over to me. How is he already back?!
"Hey Chase!" I say with a smile.
"You're all wet!" He exclaims. Shit. It's too bad that the breeze from the motorcycle ride didn't dry me up completely.
"Oh, uh, yeah. I had to run back home to get my history textbook, and the sprinklers caught me," I say with a nervous laugh. I feel proud of myself for thinking up that lie so quickly.
"Looks like you were standing near the sprinklers for a while," he chuckles.
"Anyway, you were saying something?" I try to redirect the conversation.
"Right. Listen, I had a really great time last night. We should do it again sometime," he says, his voice hopeful.
"I'd love that," I reply.
"Well, how about tomorrow night? Ashton Lizewski is throwing this party," he asks, sounding hopeful.
"Sure, that sounds great!" You know how many people find ragers gross and annoying? Yeah, I'm not one of them. I find them weirdly fun. I like watching people get drunk and embarrass themselves and also, I love free booze.
"I'll pick you up at 8," he grins. I feel pretty excited. I haven't the slightest clue who Ashton Lizewski is, but who am I to turn down a good party?
As the bell rings, we head off to our separate classes. I walk to my French class, hoping Will will be there with an explanation for this morning's adventure. He isn't there. Just my luck. Great. Just great. I guess that I just have to wait until the party. Hopefully, he will be there.
"Repeat after me," says Madame Dubois. "Je ne suis pas une pomme de terre."
Uh, what?
"Je ne suis pas une pomme de terre," says everyone in unison.
Later, as I'm getting into Macey's car, I ask her if she's going to Ashton Lizewski's party.
"I don't know. Maybe. Why?" she asks.
"Because I'm going with Chase," I tell her, waiting for her reaction.
"Oh my god. He wants to DTR," she exclaims, looking surprised.
"He wants to...what?" I ask, feeling out of the loop.
"Define the relationship. Duh," she explains, looking at me like I'm clueless.
"Why would you think that?" I ask, confused. We've literally been on one date. We met two seconds ago.
"He invited you to one of Ashton's monthly ragers. Literally everyone's gonna be there. If you two go together, everyone will know," she says matter-of-factly.
"Monthly ragers?" I ask.
"Yeah, Ashton's been having one on the first Saturday of every month since eighth grade," she says.
"So everyone's gonna be there, huh?" I ask, trying to keep my excitement at bay.
"Yeah. Why?" she inquires.
"No reason. Just curious," I reply, trying not to raise any suspicion.
As we drive, Macey honks at a car in front of us. "He's texting! Do you know how dangerous texting while driving is?" she yells.
"He's not texting, he's looking at Google Maps," I tell her.
"Ugh, I hate tourists," she grumbles.
"I'm pretty sure that's an Uber," I say, laughing.
"Whatever!" she retorts, clearly irritated. "My mom's coming back from her business trip today."
"I guess that means no more late night parties for Wyatt." I say.
"He shouldn't have his alcoholic college friends over that late anyway," she rolls her eyes.
"His alcoholic college friends are actually pretty fun," I say with air-quotes on the 'alcoholic'. "You should come over the next time they're there. You'll have a good time."
"Um, yeah, 'cause getting grounded for life sounds like so much fun. Just 'cause your mom don't care what you do doesn't mean mine doesn't."
"Ouch," I say, taken aback.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean it like that," she apologises. "I'm going over to Lindsey's later. You should come."
Lindsey is Macey's best friend. She seems really nice but I've always found something about her a bit...off. I can't say no though. I need people to hang out with. The only friends that I've made are Chase, Will and Alex, and Will and Alex seem to be gone half the time anyway.
"Sure, I'm in," I reply.
