[48] The Intervention
"Hello, everyone. I'm sure you're all wondering why I gathered you here today," I say dramatically as I look around to see Ashleigh, Colt, Andy, and Wyatt sitting in my living room. And then I notice the random girl sitting between Andy and Colt. "Wait, who are you?"
"Oh, this is Fleur, my Uber driver!" Andy explains. "She lives on a farm nearby and wanted to make some friends in town, so I invited her along to Wyatt's intervention."
"Oh, how thoughtful of you, Andy," I say, my voice laced with sarcasm.
"What intervention?" Wyatt asks, confused.
"It's so nice to meet you all!" Fleur beams. "You seem like the type of people who would enjoy feeling like they're a part of a healthy and growing community."
Ashleigh and I exchange a curious look.
"I beg your pardon?" Colt asks, looking suspicious.
"Do you all go to the same church?" Fleur continues. "We have our own church on the farm. We call it the church of happiness."
"What the hell is going on here?" Wyatt sounds even more confused.
"We don't worship a high power but we worship each other. I would love to have you all over at the farm sometime," she clarifies.
"I'm really sorry, Fleur, but this is a private matter and I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you to leave," I say politely to her and then glare at Andy.
"Oh!" She exclaims. "I understand. But please, take my card. I would love to see you all again sometime."
I turn around and give Andy a stink eye after reading the card she gave me before leaving. "Seriously, Andy? Fleur de Lys, church of happiness recruiter?"
"What? I thought she was nice!" Andy replies, making me roll my eyes.
"You do realise that she was trying to get us to join a cult, right?" Ashleigh informs him.
"I'm sorry, weird cult girl aside, what the hell is this about? An intervention?" Wyatt asks, looking impatient.
"You gotta dump Lindsey. We're all going to give you one good reason each," I say. "I'll start. She's a mean person who is best friends with our evil cousin."
"Her muffins are subpar at best. You can do better," Colt states.
"She's in high school and you don't even like her," says Andy.
"You're way too hot for that grotesque biatch!" This one comes from Ashleigh, who then realises what she just said and quickly adds, "I mean, anyone would be too hot for her. She's ugly on the inside."
Wyatt thinks for a minute and then sighs, "Guys, this wasn't necessary. Of course I wanna break up with her. I have zero interest in her and frankly, the whole thing makes me extremely uncomfortable."
"Well, why haven't you done it yet then?" I ask.
"Because I feel guilty. She keeps talking about how I took her 'precious flower'" he says, with air quotes around the words 'precious flower'. "I don't know how to do it without being a complete jackass."
"Whoa, when did this happen?" Andy questions.
"That night that the Theta party. I don't even remember, to be honest." Wyatt shrugs.
"But I do. I was with you that night. She kissed you and you were so drunk that you turned around and threw up in a bush. You definitely didn't sleep with her that night," Andy tells him.
"Oh my god. She kissed you and you threw up!" Ashleigh says and the two of us burst into laughter.
"Wow. This makes me feel a lot better about wanting to dump her over text," Wyatt admits. "I can't believe I wasted all this time feeling guilty."
"Hey, it wasn't a waste of time," Colt assures him. "We got some delicious cookies out of it. Shit muffins, but truly delightful cookies."
"Wow, this has been a real success! You're welcome," I gloat. "Now if you'll excuse me, I have a date to get ready for."
"So you really are dating someone else?" Andy asks. "Is it really over with you and Will?"
"Yes. Why, did Will say anything?" I ask, hoping Andy has something to tell me. But much to my disappointment, his response is a no. "That's what I thought." I shrug and go to my room to get ready for my date.
Later on at Smooter's, I greet Holden with a short and friendly hug. As much as I love Smooter's and hanging around the twins, it isn't the most romantic environment. It is also the only place that Holden and I have ever hung out, with the exception of the one time he cooked me that delicious mushroom burger at his apartment. I can't say that this bothers me very much. Because as hot as Holden is, we have zero chemistry. We are both also hopelessly infatuated with other people.
"I ordered you your favourite smoothie," Holden says as I take a seat.
"Aw, thanks. That's so nice of you," I say and take a sip. "So, what's been going on? How was your day?"
"A bit crappy, to be honest," he admits. "Jane turned up at my work today. She wants to get back together."
"But isn't that a good thing?" I ask, not at all affected by his revelation. Jane is his ex girlfriend who broke up with him a few months ago. "You still love her, don't you?"
"I do. But I also don't want to get hurt again," he sighs. "And helping you make Walker jealous has been fun."
"Holden, I think we've already succeeded at making Will as jealous as possible. Go get your girl," I instruct. He gives me a grateful smile and takes his leave, just in time for me to receive an ominous text message. Is this really happening?
