[40] Jailbirds
"Officer Becker," I playfully smile in my drunken haze.
"What?"
"You said that anything I say can and will be held against me," I lean in and whisper in his ear. "Does that include you?"
I notice a slight blush appear on his perfectly sculpted face.
"Jeez, Kathryn," Ashleigh face-palms. "You are so out of it."
She hands me a bottle of water and I take a couple of sips before Officer Becker handcuffs me.
He leads me to the squad car and I sit at the back. Next to me sit Darla and Chase, handcuffed as well, looking uncomfortable
"I can't believe your name is Fedora!" Darla laughs.
"Go away," I groan.
"It's really not that bad a name," Chase finds it hard to shrug with his cuffed hands. "I don't know why Macey makes so much fun of it."
"Wow, thanks." I smile, surprised.
"I know she's my soulmate and all but she can be pretty petty."
"Soulmate." Darla chuckles.
"Do you guys ever stop talking?" Officer Becker asks as he drives us to the station.
"No," Darla shakes her head. "Oh and I'm so not giving you free whipped cream on your coffee anymore."
"Sorry, Darla. I'm just doing my job." He chuckles. "Try to be a little more discrete the next time you break the law."
"We were totally discrete," I slur. "We're the queens of discrete. Aren't we, Dar?"
"Uh huh. Totally!"
"Are you drunk, Miss Davis?" The cop inquires.
"Nuh-uh. I'm as sober as Lindsay Lohan!"
"My father is one of the best lawyers in the country," Chase states.
"That's nice." Officer Becker comments.
We get to the station and I find myself in a jail cell after a long, long time.
"My parents are going to kill me," I fidget with my jacket's collar. I had promised them that I'd be turning a new leaf here in Riverbrook. A leaf that did not include getting arrested like I did back in New York.
Nothing sobers you up better than a dose of good ol' reality.
"They're in another continent. What's the worst that they can do?" Darla reminds me.
"You're right," I realize. "But my brother? Damn, he's gonna kill me!"
"Wyatt's a chill guy. I'm sure he'll be fine. My parents on the other hand? Heck no." Darla starts to worry. "I'm gonna have to work a ton of extra shifts at the cafe just to pay for the bail."
"My dad totally won't gift me a Ferrari for my birthday now." Chase mopes and the two of us give him a death glare.
Officer Becker stands at the other side of the bars.
"Miss Davis, your brother isn't answering the phone. Do you have any other relatives who we can contact?"
Great. I'm going to have to call Aunt Augusta, aren't I?
Wait a minute.
"I guess you can call my other brother," I suggest, suddenly remembering the fact that he exists.
"What other brother?" Chase scoffs.
I rattle off Colt's number and Officer Becker goes outside to call him.
"Since when do you have another brother? Macey never told me." Chase asks.
"Macey doesn't know everything." I state.
Officer Becker appears again, telling Darla that her parents are here to get here.
"Good luck." I wish her as she leaves.
"And then there were two..." Chase takes a step closer to me.
"Three, actually," Officer Becker clears his throat. "I'm still here."
"Good for you, Becker. They're finally letting you do something other than organizing papers and sweeping the floors," Chase narrows his eyes at the cop.
"I never had to sweep floors. Not that it's any of your business, McKnight."
"You two know each other?" I ask, curious.
"Becker was a senior when we were freshmen. While all the other seniors went off to college after high school, Becker swept floors here."
"Watch it, McKnight. You may be the quarterback or prom king or whatever but you ain't shit outside school. I can still arrest you whenever I want," Officer Becker snaps and I chuckle.
It's nice to see someone stand up to Chase. The only one who ever does that is... Will.
Will.
The one positive outcome of this whole mess is that I've been distracted from the fact that Will Walker totally and completely dumped me.
"I can't believe I'm bailing my sister out of jail," Colt enters with a nerdy looking middle aged man.
"Mr McKnight, your father sent me. He's very upset," the man says.
"Of course he sent his assistant. It's not like he'd ever come and get me himself." Chase rolls his eyes.
"What are you doing hanging out with this imbecile?" Colt demands.
"Who are you calling an imbecile, you little shit?" Chase narrows his eyes. "Whoa, whoa, whoa, wait a minute!"
"What?"
"The weird English guy who never comes to school is your brother?" He asks.
"Yes."
"Well, now it makes sense why you punched me," Chase says to Colt. "Come on, Mike, let's go."
"My name is Mark, sir."
"Whatever, Mike." Chase leaves with his father's assistant.
"Try not to get into any more trouble." Officer Becker smirks and I give him a wink as Colt and I leave.
We get into his car and he starts to drive.
"I'm surprised you called me. Where's Wyatt?"
"Probably sleeping," I shrug. "I'm sorry."
"It's cool. I'm glad you called me. So, what did you do?" I notice a smile on his face.
"I stole a car."
"You did WHAT?" The smiles fade off his face and is replaced by shock and confusion.
"We were playing Triple Dog,"
"What the bloody hell is Triple Dog?"
"It's like truth or dare," I explain. "Without the truth part."
"Interesting." He raises an eyebrow. "Does this 'acting out' have anything to do with your recent break up with Will?"
"Colt! Don't psychoanalyze me," I protest.
"Big words."
"I'm serious."
"Me too. If it makes you feel better, he's pretty torn up about it too," he says, making me suddenly jolt my head up and look him in the eye.
"How do you know that?"
"We're mates, remember?" He reminds me.
"Oh, right."
He stops the car outside my house.
"Thanks for bailing me out, Colt. You didn't have to," I hug him.
"Yes, I did. I'm your brother." He smiles.
"And a good one at that," I chuckle. "You wanna come in?"
"Oh no. I don't wanna be there when you explain what happened to Wyatt. See ya." He drives away.
It's crazy how I didn't even know that he existed a couple of months ago and now he's such a big part of my life.
I take a deep breath as I stand at my front door. I open it and enter, preparing myself to face the wrath of Wyatt.

By the way, have any of you guys seen the movie Upside Down? I watched today and oh my gosh, it's so unique! I love Jim Sturgess so much.
Please vote and comment and let me know what you think! It really motivates me to write more.
