[29] The Ball: Part 2
I regret accepting Ashton's offer to dance almost immediately. I thought I was a bad dancer but Ashton is even worse, a fact that he seems to be blissfully unaware of.
"Ow! Do you mind?" I groan when he steps on my foot for what seems like the millionth time.
"It's not my fault you can't keep up with the Ashtonator," He bobs his head and his curls fly around.
"Okay, I'm done." I roll my eyes and step away from him.
"You can't walk away from the Ashtonator!" He protests.
"Oh, but I just did." I smile and walk up to where Macey and her friends are standing. We've barely spoken in the last couple of months because, well, she just might be out to destroy my life. But let's not jump to conclusions.
"Hey Mace," I say awkwardly to her. She's wearing a frilly pink dress that matches with Lindsey and Madison's. They look extremely tacky.
"What do you want, slut?" Lindsey narrows her eyes. "Oops, I mean Kathryn."
"Bite me, Lindsey." I roll my eyes.
"What are you doing here? Don't you have a dick to suck or something?" She laughs at her own lame joke along with Madison.
"Several, unlike you." I give her the biggest and most artificial smile.
"I was just about to go and get some punch. You wanna come with me?" Macey asks and I nod.
"So... How've you been?" I ask.
"I can't believe you're dating Colt now. Like Will wasn't bad enough," She remarks, ignoring my question.
"Colt?! Ew!" I burst into laughter.
"What?"
"Macey, I'm not dating Colt. Why would you even think that?!" I question.
"You two seem to spend an awful lot of time together." She raises an eyebrow.
"That's because we're friends," Well, we're friends and siblings. But Macey doesn't need to know that. Not yet.
"Besides, Will and I are very much together." I inform her.
"Well, okay. Major downgrade, but okay." She looks at me with her beady little eyes.
"Major downgrade? Excuse me?"
"You went from Chase McKnight to Will Walker. If that isn't a downgrade, I don't know what is." She flips her unevenly curled hair.
"Wow! Fuck you Macey. I'm done trying." I sigh and leave. I'm done with her. Who does she think she is? Whether she has a hidden agenda or not, I don't need people like her in my life. And no, I don't care that we're related. She's just as bad as Augusta.
I go back to where Ashleigh's standing all alone. I guess Wade still isn't back.
"You and Ashton make such a darling couple!" Ashleigh jokes, trying to imitate Aunt Augusta.
"Shut up." I giggle.
"How did it go with Macey?" She asks.
"Jeez, Ash, have you just been watching me this whole time?" I laugh.
"Pretty much," she admits.
"Well, you were right." I say.
"She has an evil plan?" Ashleigh asks with her eyes wide.
"No, she's just not who I thought she is." I sigh.
"Screw Macey. You don't need her," she says cheerfully and I smile. "Where's Will, by the way?"
"I don't know. He said he'll tell me later." I tell her and my phone buzzes.
"Ooh, is that him?" Ashleigh smirks.
I take a look at my phone to see an urgent text.
"No, it's Colt." I say.
'Kathryn, you need to come over right now.'
'What's wrong?!' I hit send.
'I think I've figured it all out and I'm afraid we were right all along.'
"Ash, I've gotta run."
'I'm on my way.'
