Chapter 7

The Karaoke Bar & A Walk Downtown Wisconsin

We walk down the hallway of The Dorms towards the glass doors together, side by side. The air is cold and windy, the windy blows through my hair flawlessly. We walk over to the parking lot of Wisconsin State University, Justin digs deep into his pockets and grab out his car keys of his Honda unlocking the car doors. I open the car door and jump in the passenger seat quickly as Justin jumps in, stick the car keys into the ignition, watch the car roar to life, and drive out of Wisconsin State University.

"So, now that I've told you about myself. Tell me about you." He demands. "Okay, sure. Well, I have always been into books, art, and singing, since I was a little girl. I remember winning countless talent shows in Creekside Falls, getting more and more books every single Christmas, and painting pictures for my family." I say, proudly. "My parents are very strict and very overprotective, even till this day, even though I'm an adult, their both protective of me." I add, quickly.

"When is your birthday?" He asks, curiously. "In two days." I say, excitedly with a hugs smile. "Wow. My friend is a Virgo." Yep. The best kind" I say, proudly. "When is your birthday?" I ask. "March 1st." He says, proudly and cockily. "Pisces. Ugh are the worst." I say, playfully and sticking out my tongue childishly. We end playfully joke around about our zodiac signs for a least a couple of minutes.

"Virgos are such control freaks and pushovers." He says, laughing playfully and smiling wide. "Whatever." I say, laughing. We finally pull up at Karaoke Superstar Singer and I see that a lot of cars are here. Omg, there is too many here tonight, i can't sing in front of a crowd like that, I think to myself. I get nervous quickly, my palms begin to sweat and I bite my lower lip. Justin must have got my "nervous wreck" feeling because he says, "It's okay, Mel. Don't be scared, right here." And he holds my hand. I nod, force a smile, and say, "Thanks, Justin." "That's what friends are for, Mel." He says.

We drive around, trying to find a good parking spot and after a few minutes of driving around, we finally find a parking space in the overcrowded parking lot of Karaoke Superstar Singer. We jump out of the car, Justin locks the car doors, and we walk in together confidently together still holding hands.

Inside of Karaoke Superstar Singer, lyes small circular tables, big and colorful neon lights everywhere, a stage with a mic and a squared-shaped TV with a blue screen on it with a long playlist of music and a remote, and a bar with drinks. The place reeks of beer, mint, and must, I crinkle my narrow nose at the horrible and completely treacherous smell. People sit at the small tables, wander around, laugh, drink, dance, and stare at I and Justin, but, I could carless.

"Do you want a drink, Mel?" Justin asks, nicely. "Oh, I didn't bring my wall--" I say, slowly but, before I could finish my sentence Justin rudely interrupts me by saying, "It's on me. Mel, it's okay. I got this one be right back." And then his gone, walking quickly over to the bar.

I find an empty seat at a small circular table and begin to look around Karaoke Superstar Singer. Justin comes back with a smile on his face and two glass shots of beer. I've drunk beer before, but I should start now sooner or later I'm an adult now, I think to myself. Justin must be a mind reader or something because he says, "It's okay if you haven't drunk beer before. I haven't drunk beer in a while. So, its okay, Mel." I nod and smile warmly.

He takes a seat at the same small circular table across from me. "Come on, let's do a toast or something." He says, happily. "Ok" I say, smiling and grabbing my small glass shot of beer, holding it up. Justin holds his up to and says, "Toast to having an amazing year at Wisconsin State University. Together." Bottoms up, I think to myself.

I gulp it down in a second and it slowly goes down my throat, the beer tastes amazing and I smile widely. "You, liked it first time drinker?" Justin asks, laughing. "I liked it. A lot." I say, happily.

We watch countless people go up on the stage, pick a sing from the playlist, and starting singing either bad, horribly, amazing, cool, or bad that it is good. We laugh, cringe, smile, giggle, and even clap at some of the performances from tonight at Karaoke Superstar Singer.

A tall man walks up onto the stage slowly and grabs the microphone and digs in his pants pocket and snatch out a small slip of piece of paper and reads it, saying, "Our next performance will be Justin's and Melissa's cover of Meghan Tranior's and John Legend's Like I'm Gonna Lose You"

Were. Doing. A. Duet. Oh omg, I think to myself. I turn to face Justin nervously with a surprised and shock-looked on my beautiful face. "I'm sorry, Mel I just didn't think you wanted to go up there by yourself and get stage fright. Friends don't let that happen to other friends. Come on, Mel." He says, softly with a sweet smile and his hazel brown eyes begin to soften like a cute little puppy. "Okay." I say, happily. He lends his hand out and I grab his hand fearlessly. "Let's be awkward together." He says, happily. And, I giggle at his small joke. With everyone's eyes locked on I and Justin, We walk slowly towards the stage, walk up onstage, a man hands us two microphones, and we pick the song.

Behide us I hear the instrumental of Meghan Tranior's and John Legend's "Like I'm Gonna Lose You" come in slowly, I and Justin stand face to face, inches away from each other. My heart is pounding like a drum and I bite my lower lip nervously. I close my eyes and begin to sing my heart out softly, slowly, and quite beautifully: "I found myself dreaming, in sliver and gold, like a scene from a movie, that every broken heart knows, we were walking moonlight, and you pulled me close, spilt second and you disappeared then I was all alone, woke up in tears without you...."

After I finish my verse, I hear a soft, sweet, and vulnerable smooth voice singing and I open my eyes slowly to see Justin with the mic in his hand tight singing with his eyes close. Wow, I never knew he could sing like that, I mean heard him sing but, his....amazing, I think to myself. After we get done singing, surprisedly we get a standing ovation from the crowd, they clap, cheer, and go completely nuts.

We both smile widely and after the five minute standing ovation, we walk down the steps of the stage, walk down towards back to our small table, and take a seat. "That was amazing." He says, happily. "No...you were amazing. Justin I never knew you could sing like that. You sounded great." I say. "Thanks. You weren't so bad yourself, Mel." He says, happily.
After we watch a few more performances, We leave, heading down the empty streets in Justin's Honda.

"Did you have fun?" He asks, curiously. "Yea, of course I did. I just wish the night wasn't ending." I say, sadly with a sweet smile. He touches his my thigh, rubbing it softly and the sweet electricity flows through my body, I push his hand away quickly.
"It doesn't have to, Mel." He says, smoothly. "What do you want to do?" He asks, curiously.

"A Walk." I say, nicely. "A walk where, Mel?" He asks. "Downtown Wisconsin. Milwaukee." I say, happily. "Ok. Let's go. You know in really glad I met you. Mel." He says, softly. "I'm glad I met you too, Justin." I say, honestly. We get up from the two seats of the small table and walk out into the outside towards the parking lot.

The air is even chiller than usual and I find myself shaking and shivering uncontrollably. "Mel, are you ok?" He asks, with concern. "Um...no it's actually cold. I hate...the cold." I say, shivering and shaking. Justin digs into his pocket for his keys, opens the car doors, open the trunk, and grab out a soft Greg hoodie jacket. "Here you go, Mel." He says, nicely.

I grab it and wrap it around myself, putting in on my soft and small shoulders. "Thank you, Justin." I say, smiling. And, he smiles widely and nods. We both quickly jump into the car, turn on the radio, and drive out of the parking lot of Karaoke Superstar Singer and onto the abandoned streets of downtown Wisconsin.

"So what are you planning to do after college, Mel?" Justin asks. "My dream is to be an author. I want a publishing deal and to become a New York Times bestselling author." I say, proudly with a large smile. "That's amazing. I want to go pro and become a basketball player on a NBA basketball team." Justin says, proudly. "That's cool, Justin." I say, happily.

We finally reach the downtown of Wisconsin, Milwaukee and the streets are empty, abandoned, and completely quiet. We find a parking spot by a small antique furniture shop and jump out, begin to walk out on the sidewalk side by side. Justin begins to smile widely and I begin to stare him curiously. "Why are you always smiling, Justin?" I ask, curiously. "You give a million reasons to smile, Mel." He answers, honestly.

I nod and smile brightly. On my head, little drops of rain fell slowly from the dark midnight sky. "Did you feel that, Justin?" I ask, curiously. "No. What is it?" He asks. "Rain. It's raining. We should get going I hate the rain." I say, nervously and start to quickly walk away towards the parking lot where Justin's Honda is, but, Justin grabs me by my small wrist and quickly pull me back.

"Please. Mel, Stay. Stay with me" He says, softly. His hazel brown eyes soften and a weak smile is plastered across his handsome face. "Oh...ok, Justin." I say, happily with a smile.
The rain begins to drizzle and then become harder and harder. We are drenched in the rain and are clothes are totally wet. We dance around the empty streets in the rain for hours, laughing, giggling, smiling, and splashing each other.

"Okay, enough, let's go before we pneumonia." He says, laughing and smiling. He grabs me by my small wrist, pulls me away, and we begin to run quickly in the hard rain towards the parking lot hand in hand. I pull away from him and begin to see headlights of a car behide me and before my eyes and before I react, Justin pulls me out of the street and close to him, out of harm's way.

"You saved me, Justin." I say, softly.
"Your worth saving, Mel." He says, softly. We look deeply into each other's eyes and slowly come together and go in for a slow, sweet, beautiful, lovely, and amazing kiss. His lips tastes like heaven against mine, his lips are soft and lovely. As the rain falls down harder and harder, we stand there on the sidewalk soaking wet in the rain kissing under moonlight.
