Chapter 16
The Contract, Agreement, & Rules Of
Friends With Benefits
In Caroline's dorm, We end up watching The Fault In Our Stars, If I Stay, and Paper Towns after we finish our book reports on Pride & Prejudice together and exchange phone numbers and email addresses. Looks like I and Caroline also have a love for not just Jane Austen novels but, romantic films as well, I think to myself. We both sit on the floor eating a bowl of popcorn, a couple of chocolate bars like Hershey and Snickers, and drinking cans of PepsiCo.
A buzz comes from my pocket and I dig into my pocket, getting out my phone. A text from Justin pops up on my phone screen so I open it and read it to myself:
Change of plans, meet me outside of The Dorms building and I'll be ready to take you out so we can discuss the contract, agreement, and rules of Friends With Benefits. Now.
I reply quickly:
Ok, I will be out in a minute.
I cut off my phone, slip it back into my pocket, and I get up. "Where are you going, Mel?" Caroline asks, worriedly. "It's getting late and I have to get ready for tomorrow morning." I lie, biting my lower lip uncontrollably. I hate lying to people, Ugh this is the worst, I think to myself.
Don't you mean you to go with your fuck buddy to discuss the contract and rules of Friends With Benefits, my subconscious tells me.
I ignore my subconscious and I give Caroline a warm hug before I walk over to the dorm door, twisting the golden knob slowly. "Good night, Mel. It was nice meeting you." Caroline says, turning around to face me with a smile. "It was nice meeting you, too Caroline." I say, opening up the door and before I shut it, I wave goodbye.
I walk down the hall to the glass doors and once I get their and open them, I walk outside into the dark and cold night. The wind blows beautiful, whistling at a high pitch sound like a tea kettle pot on the stove.
I cross my arms and start to shiver as I walk slowly onto the campus of Wisconsin State University and over to the parking lot. I see Justin sitting in the front seat, running his long fingers through his blonde hair. But as soon as he sees me, A sweet and charming smile grows slowly across his face. I walk over to the car and open it, jumping quickly into the passenger seat.
"Where are you taking me to discuss this meeting or agreement?" I ask, curiously with a beautiful smile. "That's for you to find out and for me to know, Mel." He says, smirking. "Ok." I say, simply. I put my seat belt on and I ask nicely, "Can you turn on the heat, please?"
He nods slowly and turns it on, including the radio and a Lana Del Rey songs begins to play. The hot air coming from heater coos my ever cold skin so I let out a sigh of relief.
We drive out the gates of Wisconsin State University and down the streets of downtown Wisconsin after he puts the key in the engine and watch it roar to life quickly.

Where is he taking me? , I ask myself.
He puts his hand up on my thigh and begins to tickle it, making me giggling like a child. We finally stop at a restaurant called Delilah's and we jump out quickly, shutting the car doors. Justin grabs a lot large vanilla folder full of papers out of his car.
I swallow hard like I'm swallowing a thick and chunky pill. Those must be the contract and rules of Friends With Benefits, I think to myself.
"While we discuss the contract and rules of Friends With Benefits, I wanted to take you to a fancy restaurant." He says, smiling sweetly.
"Thanks, Justin but, you didn't have to do this." I say.
"Oh but, I did. I insisted." He says. He leaves his hand out and I grab it, he opens the door for me and we walk into the restaurant together holding hands. The inside of the restaurant is just as beautiful and breathtaking as the outside, It has round tables with white cloth, a band of musicians playing a beautiful tune like Beethoven or Cabot, and the air is filled with a sweet scent.
Wow, this is......amazing. Quite beautiful and lovely, I think to myself.
We walk over to a blonde haired woman behind a tall standing desk.
"Hello, I'm Claire. Are you Justin?" The blonde haired woman asks, nicely. "Yes I am. Yes. I have made a reservation here early. Remember?" He asks, curiously with a sweet and small smirk.
"Oh yeah, Right this way, Mr. Bieber." The blonde haired lady says, walking away from us and leading us toward a private area with a small white clothed table away. We follow her and we take our seats across from each other.
"What would you guys like to order tonight?" Claire asks, digging out into her black pants pocket and takes out a pencil and a small notepad. "I would like a glass of water. That will be all for me." I say, softly and quietly. "I would like a glass of red wine." He says, smiling. "Ok, I'll be right back with your drinks in a few minutes." Claire assures us, and walks away and disappears into the front of Delilah's.
"Let's get down to business, Mel. Shall we?" He asks, seriously with a straight face. "Yes. Yes we should." I say, softly.
He opens the vanilla folder and begins to hand out two pieces of paper to me all at once. "That is the rules of Friends With Benefits. And that is the contract for you to sign." He says, pointing to the left where the rules lye and then the right where the contract lyes.
I begin to read the rules first silently to myself in my head:
The Rules Of
Friends With Benefits
"Friends By Day, Sex Partners By Night...."
Rule #1: Don't discuss this type of thing with anyone (Family, friends, etc.).
Rule #2: Don't get mad or angry if you see your sex partner with someone else.
Rule #3: You don't have to sleep over or spend the night if you don't want to.
Rule #4: Do use protection always (Condom, birth control pills, etc.).
Rule #5: Don't be clingy.
Rule #6: Don't get too comfortable.
Rule #7: Don't cuddle.
Rule #8: Don't have sleepovers
Rule #9: Don't except anything else but, sex.
Rule #10: Do ensure your emotionally ready for this.
I nod and manage to say, "Okay. Wow a lot of rules." "I may have broken rule number nine. But, that's okay." He laughs, loudly.
After re-sending the rules two times in a row, I move onto the contract and after I read that, I sign it confidently. "Ready. I'm all done" I say, confidently. "I have emailed abs text messaged you extra copies of the rules and contract of Friends With Benefits if you lose these or something like that." He says.
Claire brings us our drinks and sits them in front of us. I take a sip of my water and Justin quickly gulps down half of his red wine in a second, leaving me with a shocking and surprised look on my pretty face.
"Let's do a toast." He says, happily and grabs his glass cup of his half-empty red wine in the air. "Okay." I say, and lift my glass cup of water in the air, along with Justin's drink. "A toast to the good life. A toast to Friends With Benefits." He says, proudly. "Yep." I say, flatly.
We clung our glass drinks together, making a screechy glass noise which seems to ache my ears. We both gulp down our drinks and we begin to smile from ear to ear. But, I get a gut feeling that this moment with Justin is going to change my life. Forever.
