The Surprise Birthday Party

After my parents and family leaves, I go back to I & Caitlin's dorm to try to lye down on my bed and read Wuthering Heights. I open the glass doors and slowly walk through the hallway of The Dorms towards the door. I grab the golden knob, twisting it open. When I open it, the lights are off which is unusual and the binds are closed shut tightly.

Omg, I'm scared of the dark I gotta find the light switch before I trip or worse...I might faint, I think to myself.

Then, suddenly a light switch flips on and before I can react, a crowd of people excitedly yell, "Happy Eighteenth Birthday, Melissa!!!!" I am speechless and quite stunned and completely shocked with my mouth open. In the dorm, Caitlin, Brandon, Tyler, Bailey, and a bunch of other people stand with party hats on top of their heads, red cups in their hands, and wide shiny smiles plastered across their faces.

Caitlin runs over to and pulls me in for a warm hug, and say, "I'm sorry for being such a bitch earlier. It was all apart of Brandon's idea." She smiles beautifully and I say, "It's okay, Cait. You all made me think that you all forgot about my birthday." Bailey slowly walks up and replies, "That was part of Brandon's idea to act like we didn't give a fuck about your birthday and then throw you a surprise birthday party."

I walk over Brandon, who is smiling weakly uncontrollably. "Wow. You really did that, Brandon?" I ask. "Yes. I did it for your birthday. For you." He says, with a warm smile. "Thanks." I say, sweetly. His cheeks are blushing a diverse combination of bright red and pink.

They sing happy birthday to me which makes me of course happy and makes feel special, especially with the spotlight all on me. Bailey hands me a knife to cut a piece of the vanilla cake and I had every one a piece of a cake, including myself.

We sit down to eat the vanilla cake while we play Monopoly and watch a string of countless cat videos on YouTube. I and Bailey take selfies and dance to some Rihanna music, along with the rest of us. I finally feel like I'm having a great time, a great birthday,
I think to myself. My subconscious is laughing, smiling, and jumping up and down pumping her fist in the air.

"Well, were gonna go. We're gonna go to Tyler's apartment." Bailey says, tiredly. "Okay, have a safe drive everyone" I say, hopefully. Everyone gives me hugs and waves goodbyes and even sing happy birthday for the second time before they leave.

Suddenly, a buzzing sound comes from my phone so I dig into my pocket, pulling it out and cutting it on. It is a text from Justin. I open it quickly and begin to read it:

I'll be there in a few minutes to take you to somewhere. I'm not going to tell you cause it's a surprise. Oh, and happy birthday, again, Mel. Bye, birthday girl

I smile, blush, cut off my phone, and stash it back into my pocket. I hope tonight will be fun, I hope I have the time of my life, i think to myself. But, little did I know that this night with Justin would change my life forever.
