Juniors
Lizzy's POV
I can finally say that I am a junior at Westbrook University. I had the chance to live off campus with some friends, but then I got the RA job and that means another year in the dorms. I'm not complaining, although, I do wish I had a stove. Microwave food is not that great. At least I won't be having a roommate this year. I get a single room all to myself. Boys over whenever! However, it's just going to be one boy. Aka, my boyfriend. Aka, Tanner Campbell. He's a music major, but not the stereotypical college guitar player. He doesn't smoke pot twenty four seven, he doesn't have long hair, and he's not a douche. Actually fun fact: everyone in my main friend group I went to high school with. They say you only stay close friends with one, maybe two people from high school, but I stayed close to six people. That's insane! My two best friends are Jasmine Willowhive - a fashion design major - and Jane Kennedy - still general studies. She's known as a major hopper. From one major to another, nothing seems to fit. Once she was a culinary major and well, she's not allowed to cook for the school anymore. But seriously, these two are my best friends! I love them more than anything in world. We do everything together, besides live together. I'm bummed that we aren't living together this year, but there's always next year. Jane lives at a sorority house. She didn't get into a sorority, not that she wanted to, but she needed a job. So shes known as the house mom at Delta Signma Beta. I honestly don't understand the Greek naming system but whatever, she gets free place to live. Jasmine actually lives in an apartment with Tyler St. Jones - special education major - and Sebby Martin - an English major. I know, she's living with two guys, that must mean that she sleeps with at least one of them. That's where you're wrong. She's gay! Tanner lives in the dorms. Aiden Kennedy, Jane's brother, lives in his fraternity house as pledge adviser, he's hoping to become president. He's a law student. The smartest kid in our group. Kind of pretentious, but we let it slide because he has no street smarts. He was a sheltered kid, never been to a high party in his life. But has been to many frat parties. It's weird seeing him smiling and having a good time. I always just pictured him with glasses and a suit, smoking out of an old man pipe. I'm telling you, he's going far in life. Okay, so what am I missing? I have to go show the freshman around soon, but I know I'm forgetting someone. Oh! Me. I'm majoring in theater. I figured since I'm always good at acting like I care, I'd perfect at this. That's not one hundred percent of the reason though. I love acting, simple as that. Well, as I get ready for the day I totally check myself out. I'm wearing a pastel rainbow hooded crop top with light blue skinny jeans, red converse, a silver arrow ring, and a pastel rain beanie to match my top. I grabbed my phone and walked to the front of the dorm building. It's a few days after move in and I'm meeting all the female students in my hallway. Yesterday I met with the guys and it was a lot of cat calling. So annoying. But hopefully with the girls, I'll be able to bond with them. It's noon and I saw all the girls walk outside. I planned a nice trip around the campus that's across the street. So, they can hopefully find out where their classes are or ask if they have any questions. When all the girls were out, I had them tell me their names and then something fun about themselves. The lat girl looked familiar she said her name was Sophia Walkie and that she went to the same high school that I went to. I might remember her from there. Or was she in middle school when I was in high school? I'm not sure, but I'm sure it'll come to me after a bit. Sophia also said that she's majoring in theater, just like me. She's really pretty too with a Latino accent. She really pulled off the blue dress with white heels with gold earrings that she was wearing. As we were walking around the campus, we got to the cafeteria. This was a perfect time to take a break and get some lunch. Yes, I did plan it because Jane and Jasmine are both here. I got my food and sat with them. Jane was wearing her favorite pink cutout cami top, dark blue skinny jeans, black high heels, and a yellow watch. Jasmine was wearing a bright pink skirt, a black crop top, blue fringe sandals and a denim jacket that says "Heart Breaker" on the back. She made her jacket herself and is never caught without it.
"So. How are the fresh meat?" Jasmine asked.
I rolled my eyes. "Not too bad, I think the one girl went to high with us. She might've a freshman when we were seniors."
As I finish my sentence, Sophia walks over and asks to sit with us and I was cool with it. It looks like Jane got a bad vibe from her, but she shrugs it off and Jasmine totally thinks she's cute. I know that look, the "ooo she's pretty, I should hit on her" look that Jasmine always gives. I asked Sophia why she didn't sit with the other girls and she said it was because she felt like an outsider.
"I have no friends here. My only two friends from high school moved far away."
"Well, now you have three new friends!" I smiled.
A huge smile grew across her face. "Really?"
I nodded. Jane gave an "are you serious" look and yes I am. Jane doesn't like making new friends. She's content with us.
"So, Sophia? That's a pretty name. You got a boyfriend back home?" I had to hold back a groan. So settle, Jasmine.
She shook her head. "My luck with guys is no good."
Jasmine smirked and sat back.
"So, where do you guys live?" Sophia questioned.
"Dorms, obviously." I said.
"An apartment off campus."
"A sorority house."
"Wait, seriously? You're a sister?"
Jane shook her head with an eyebrow raised. "God no! You'd never catch me hanging out willingly with those bitches. I'm their house mom. I get paid to make sure they don't do anything stupid."
"Which house?" Sophia asked, looking very eager.
"Delta Signma Beta."
"I'm rushing that house! I wish I was legacy, so I would have a right away. Maybe you could slip in a good word for me?"
"Okay, no. I'm not going to do that."
I'm surprised. Usually Jane is just sarcastic with people who like that. Sophia didn't say anything, but she did look disappointed. I can't believe Jane just did that to a wide eyed freshman. Let her dreams get crushed on her own, just like everyone else. I will admit, Jane turned way more into an asshole than what she was in high school. I love it sometimes and I hate it sometimes. You win some, you lose some. As we were eating and getting to know Sophia better, our four guy friends showed up. Aiden, in his usual black jeans with a red, grey and white plaid button down shirt, black Vans, and a black watch, Tanner wearing navy blue jeans with a red t-shirt that has a green dinosaur on it and says "All My Friends are Dead," blue converse, a silver skateboard necklace, and an acoustic guitar, Sebby sporting his black ripped jeans with a red t-shirt, maroon converse, a black watch, shark tooth necklace, and a colorful skateboard, and Tyler wearing a Lady and the Tramp t-shirt, a black beanie, dark blue skinny jeans, colorful slip on Vans, and a blue backpack. Such a misfit group of guys yet no one dares to question their friendship.
"Ladies." Tyler smiled.
He's kind of the ladies man of the group. He is never looking for a relationship, just hook ups or friends with benefits. He has said multiple times that he wouldn't mind being a sugar daddy, however, all the times that he has said that he was drunk. So, I'm not sure how truthful that is. He does come from a rich family though and they do give him a lot of money whenever he asks. To put it bluntly, mommy and daddy are his bank account.
"Shut up, Tyler." Sebby replied.
Sebby is short for Sebastian... We think. We don't know, we never learned his first name. Not even at graduation. He purposely asked the principle to call him Sebby. I'm not that close to him, he's closer to Jasmine. They dated before Jasmine came out. The thing is, in high school, she was always too scared to come out. Sebby found out that she was gay, when he was using her computer for a project, he looked through her search history and from there is how he found out. No, the search history was not lesbian porn. She was searching up how to come out to friends. So, instead of Sebby forcing her to come out, he asked if she wanted to date him. She said yes and they dated all though high school. Even voted cutest couple three years in a row. Their relationship was kind of an agreement. Jasmine didn't have to come out and Sebby didn't have to deal with his stalker. Yes, stalker. He had a stalker. I won't go into details, I'll let him do that.
"Hey." Tanner smiled at me and we kissed.
Everyone else groaned. We continued to kiss. Normally we stop at one kiss, but when our friends complain, we go longer. Just to make them suffer. Good friends, right? I hope so. Tanner has always done the music for our high school plays and musicals and now he does it for this school. He's also looking for a band. Not only would he get extra help for this years musical, Newsie, but also to play gigs at local bars. The only problem I have with him joining a band is that the girls will be all over them. Yeah, they already are, but they'll multiply and probably will suffocate him. I have every right to be a jealous girlfriend, I mean look at him. He's a guitar player, he's hot, he has to most perfect qualities in a guy and he's hot. I mean I'm not overly jealous, I just make sure that girls know that we're dating. That's another reason why I continued to kiss him. I want Sophia to know that he's mine.
"Ever heard of thing called too much PDA?" Aiden questioned.
Where to start with this kid? I mean he is rich and he is in the number fraternity on campus, Omega Alpha Pi. Him and I get on each other nerves all the time, it's like we're siblings. It doesn't even seem like Jane and Aiden are related, besides them looking alike and they can both be really sarcastic. They get along, but she gets annoyed with him pretty easily. He's arrogant and sometimes only cares about himself and his house. Did I mention he's president of Omega Alpha Pi? However, being friends with him means we get accepted to awesome frat parties and that's all I care about. They throw the best parties off and on campus. A good thing about this Greek system is that when they have "Greek Only" events, it's open to everyone. This does not include rushing, obvious. That's only open to people who want to be in the Greek system. Aiden is a legacy, that's why he got in so easily. There's something else I know I should mention, I just can't think of it right now. Oh well, it'll come to me eventually.
"Hi! I'm Sophia!" She smiled, introducing herself to the guys.
"I'm Aiden, this is Tyler, Sebby and Tanner," Aiden replied.
"Hey, dude, we can answer on our own," Sebby pointed out.
"I just thought it would go a lot faster if I introduced everyone."
Well, it did go faster. Sophia noticed Aiden's Greek bag and began getting excited again.
"Wait, are you in the fraternity OAI?" Sophia said, almost reaching out to feel Aiden's bag.
"Unfortunately he is," Jane moaned as she rolled her eyes.
"I'm rushing the number one sorority on campus, Delta Signma Beta!" Sophia said, almost in a bragging tone.
"Well, I can definitely give them a good word about you. I mean you are hanging out with my friends, so that must mean you're a good candidate," Aiden smiled.
Every single one of us, besides Sophia and Aiden, rolled our eyes. Oh and I remembered what I was going to say. Aiden and Jane's dad was in OAI. Their mom wasn't. The two got a divorce. Aiden says it was because their mom wasn't in Delta Signma Beta. Jane says it was because their dad was in Omega Alpha Pi. Either way, Aiden refuses to date anyone who isn't in a sorority.
"So, the guys and I are off to Rodney's, if any of you ladies would like to join?" Tanner suggested.
Rodney's is a bar, every student and professor in this university can be caught grabbing a drink at Rodney's. The guys left, following them were Jasmine and Jane. I told them I would meet them there after I'm done with the tour. I finished the tour and we walked back to the front of the resident hall dorm.
"Any questions?" I asked.
"Aren't we going to tour the sororities?" a girl asked.
I shook my head. "You can do that on your own during rush week!" I smiled. Thank God I don't have to go there.
My phone rang and it was Jane. I never ignore the phone when Jane or Jasmine call. It's like my mom, I just have to pick up. So, I did. She said she had to go back to the house and to meet me there when I'm done. I said okay and I hung up. I asked the group if they had any more questions they all shook their heads. I wonder why she had to go back the house? Also, I jinx myself by saying how happy I was that I didn't have to go. The tour was over and I let everyone go. Sophia asked where I was going as she was walking to my car with me.
"Delta Sigma Beta. Jane needs to see me," I replied.
"Can I come?" she asked with big eyes.
I shook my head. "No, sorry. Rushies aren't allowed in the house before rush week."
She looked sad and gave me big puppy dog eyes. I still said no, no matter how badly I wanted to let her come with. Sophia went back to her dorm. She is such a cute girl, besides the obsessed with the sorority house thing. I left. Once I parked, I walked up to the house. I knocked on the door and one of the sisters answered. She just stared at me.
"Rushing is next week."
"I'm here to see Jane," I added.
"Oh, well she's upstairs."
"Upstairs?" I asked.
Jane's room is in the basement.
The girl nodded. "The presidents room."
Oh great, the queen of all snotty rich girls. I went upstairs into the presidents room. Jane was there with the president, they both looked at me.
"Wendy, this is one of two best friends, Lizzy. She's super organized and loves to plan things," Jane said with a big smile on her.
She's never smiling, but she's really forcing it to suck up to this girl.
"Great! So you can help with the rush party!" Wendy cheered happily.
Wendy was wearing the typical Barbie Go-Getter outfit, consisting of a bright pink skin tight dress, black belt at her waist, black heels, and a necklace with big red flowers. She definitely looks like a million bucks, and I look confused.
"Wait helping with what?"
"Jane said that you're perfect for this. Look, I just need some extra help."
"A rush party? Seriously?" I say, not even trying to mask my confusion.
Me? Being apart of a sorority? You've got to be kidding me! There's no way.
"I'll pay you," Wendy edges out, showing how desperate she was getting.
"I have a job," I added.
"I'll pay you double."
"Yeah, thanks but no thanks," I replied.
Jane pulled me aside. "Please, I might get kicked out if you don't."
"What did you do?" I asked in shock.
"Something stupid."
"But you're suppose to make sure none of these girls do something stupid."
"Yes, I didn't think they would offer me tequila."
Tequila is Jane's kryptonite. She's gets crazy when she drinks it and most of the time doesn't remember the night before. She's in hot water and she's one of my best friends. I can't let her get kicked out. I turned to Wendy with the look that I lost dignity.
"Fine, what do you want me to do?"
"Just help me organize this party and pretend to be a sorority sister during the party," she said with a smile.
It can't get any worse, right? Plus she is paying me. We heard two girls giggling and they knocked on the door. Wendy yelled for them to come in. The one girl with black hair and blue eyes, was wearing daisy duke shorts with a tight white tank tucked in to the point you could see her black bra, black sandals, and a gold bracelet. The other with blonde hair and brown eyes, was wearing light blue skinny jeans with a galaxy print tank top, black flats, glasses, a simple silver chain necklace with a heart pendent on it, and a black long cardigan.
"Perfect timing! This is our social chair Leona," Wendy smiled standing next to the blonde, "And her bff, Alice."
Wendy definitely favors Leona over Alice.
"Leona, this is, uh, whats your name?" She asked.
I rolled my eyes. "Lizzy."
"Right! Lizzy, our pretend sister and organizer for the party! I'll let you two discus details." Wendy left with Jane.
So not only am I a pretend sister, but I also have to work out details with a stranger, great. She's probably a spoiled brat like every other girl here.
"Isn't this Wendy's room?" I asked.
Leona nodded. "Yeah, but all planning goes on in this room."
"Oh. Okay."
Leona and I began to work on this stupid party, while Alice was giving me details about this house and the other sisters. This is what I do for friends. Jane better be happy that I'm one her best friends. After about an hour of working on the party, we decided to take a break. Leona said that Wendy probably took Jane out for a mani-pedi, so they won't be back for awhile. Jane agreeing to do something like, she really must have done something stupid.
"So, what's your major?" Leona asked.
"Theater, you?" I replied.
"A major in astronomy and minor in art."
"Alright, I dig it."
"I'm majoring in psychology." Alice added
These don't seem nearly as bad as I thought they would. In fact they're kind of cool.
"Alice, you seem kind of quiet." I pointed out.
"Oh, just wait, she is fierce. Kind of Jane," Leona piped in, twirling her pencil around in her fingers the way a drummer twirls drumsticks.
"I can't help it. I know I'm better than everyone else and my eyebrows are always on point, unlike Wendy's," Alice smirked, filing at her French manicured nails.
"You are the equivalent of Jane," I laughed a little. "You two aren't like other sorority girls."
They both shook their heads.
"For the most part, not really. I like the little things in life," Leona smiled.
"And I like being better than rich girls," Alice chimed in in a cold tone.
"You're not rich?" I questioned.
"Technically no. I moved in with Leona's family during high school and they treated me like their own daughter. Gave me a free ride to college as long as I took care of this nerd," Alice laughed, sticking her tongue out at Leona, who responded with the same gesture and giggle.
"So, you going to start living here?" Leona asked once she finished jeering at Alice.
I shook my head. "No, I'm an RA just making extra cash."
"My bet, you'll be moved in by the end of the week," Alice said, glancing down now at her phone.
I looked confused. How could she possibly think that? I made it clear I didn't want to be here.
"Look how good your plan is!" Leona pointed out, sensing the growing awkward tension in the room.
I looked at the plans for the party and I have to admit they are good. "Damn it. I should resign my RA job now, right?"
"First make sure Wendy still pays you," Alice pointed out, actually looking at me for the first time since we started the break. Something about her cold glares but warm smile confused me deeper, but I tried to shake it off.
Eventually Wendy and Jane came back from what Jane will later describe it as Hell. Can't wait for that! Her stories from this house are like the E! channel. Hilarious gossip. They fight over the stupidest things. Anyways, Wendy looked at my ideas and loved them.
"How would you feel about moving in? You would live in the basement with Jane. Don't worry you guys get all of it."
"Am I getting paid while living here? Because I can't quit my job if I'm not getting paid."
"Of course. If not, I'll personally make sure you get your job back," she smiled.
I bet she wasn't planning on me asking that. I wasn't even going to until Leona and Alice said something. I said I wanted to see the money upfront and she gave me money for today and an extra two hundred dollars for compensation. Okay, sorority one, me zero. Jane and I left to get Jasmine and then to help me move out. Once we got Jasmine we went back to the dorms. I had to quit and I love my boss, she loves me two. We went through two years of college together. It sucks, I'm going to miss her a lot. I hope she's not mad. I went to her office and told I was quitting. She was upset, but I explained the situation and she understood. I was kind of looking forward to this job, however, I want to be there for Jane. I went back to my dorm where Jane and Jasmine were already packing. Tanner showed up and helped out. I explained it all while we were packing. Halfway through and there was a knock on my door. I opened it and there stood Sophia.
"What's going on?" she asked, looking pass me and into my dorm.
"I quit, I'm moving out today," I replied.
"Oh, why?"
"Better offer," I shrugged.
"I was hoping that you would quiz me on the sorority house," she added.
"I mean we're going back there if you want to come with."
"I thought you said I couldn't go until rush week?" she pointed out.
"Well, you're going to be helping me move out and unpack, so I think you'll be good."
Her eyes got huge, "Sweet!"
We finished packing and drove back to the sorority house. When we walked in, Sophia was overjoyed. She couldn't believe that she was actually here. So stupid. I'm glad I don't get hyped over these type of things. Leona and Alice came over and helped me. I walked into the basement and Wendy wasn't kidding, this is huge. Jasmine had an idea and left. I have no idea where she went, but she better come back and help me unpack. She doesn't come back to help me finish, by the way. She has an idea, it has to be good. None of her ideas are ever bad. Tanner decided to go upstairs and get a drink of water.
A few moments later we heard some girls yelling, "Boy in the house!!"
I rolled my eyes and ran up the stairs and into the kitchen. There were two girls just looked mortified. It's not like he's naked. Get over it. But I had to apologize either way.
"I'm sorry, he's my boyfriend, just helping me unpack," I added.
They left and I kissed him. He just smiled like an idiot.
"Okay, so I need to find out the boy rules," I added.
"Sucks you don't have your own dorm now," he said.
I nodded. "It really does, I just wish you and I could have more alone time."
We started to make out a little.
"Um excuse me," Wendy said, clearing her throat.
We pulled away and I looked her. "Sorry, just wanted to thank him for the help."
"Do you always make out with guys who help you?" she asked teasing me a little.
I smiled and shook my head. "He's my boyfriend."
"Okay, well I'll have to lay down the house rules for you."
I nodded.
"Wait, you're Tanner Campbell the musician. We could use you for parties," she smiled.
"Paid?" he asked.
She nodded. "Just bring your good looks and guitar."
He smiled. Happy to get his first official paid gig. I'm proud of him. I finished unpacking, everyone who had to leave did and now I'm just laying in my bed.
"What does this year bring us?" I asked.
"Parties and connections," Jane smiled.
"You know, I'm happy we get to live together."
"Same here, I bet Jasmine asked to move into."
"She better have or have a good excuse to why she left," I laughed.
Jane laughed too. We spent most of the night just talking and eventually fell asleep. I hope this is a good year. Everything seems to be great right now, lets hope it stays this way.
