Part 24

"Are a couple pictures of Spiderman really worth 80 dollars?"

"Well they were close up and not just a red blur. I'm not sure if anyone has managed to get a good picture of him before. We probably could have gotten more if we weren't dealing with Jameson. You aren't too worried that we helped Jameson are you? I know that he isn't exactly a fan of ya know."

"It's fine Michelle. He doesn't bother me. Sure, he's said some questionable stuff about other superheroes, but he's never actually been able to do anything."

"True, just wanted to make sure."

Michelle gives him a small nod in agreement and places her hand on Peter's on the café table.  They warmly look at each other while the barista comes over and places down a mug of tea, for Michelle, and a mug of coffee for Peter. The couple only break eye contact when the woman asks if they would like anything else. Both giving a quick shake of their heads and say thanks. Michelle puts her other hand on Peter's and grows a beautiful bright smile, causing herself to look away in embarrassment.

"Was that smile to make up for a life time of not smiling." Peter jokes.

"Should I be offended? Look, I know it sounds cheesy but you give me a reason to smile. I dislike the majority of people, half of the time class feels pointless and boring and I'm about as alone as it gets when in terms of a social life. So thinking of you and being around you helps."

Peter places his other hand over Michelle's and gives a reassuring look. "That feeling goes both ways. I mean, I find it harder to see the bad in people, but still."

"Enough of being smooshy..." Michelle concludes, trying to supress a growing smile. She leans back and hold her tea closer. "I've been thinking that I should join the journalism club."

"Haven't thought about that before. You'd be good, great actually. You're interested in that and understand it." Peter nods in agreement.

"I need to make sure it doesn't overlap decathlon stuff. Speaking of, you better be coming on Monday."

"After school?"

"Yes, like every week. But you wouldn't know since you never show up."

"Well at least you know why now."

"And that doesn't change it Peter. It's important that you come to all the meetings and practices. I get that the other thing is important but I will find and drag you to decathlon shit if I have to."

Peter just looks at his coffee, silently nodding.

"Sorry, that was a bit harsh."

"No it's alright, you're right. I-"

Peter is cut off by the sirens of a couple police cars speeding past the window.

Michelle sighs. "Saved by the sirens. Go. I'll see you at your apartment."

"Michelle-"

"Give me your key and go. It's fine Peter."

And with that Peter kisses Michelle and rushes out of the café. Michelle is left with a key and money for the drinks on the table.
