xxxviv. blame it on peeves

"You're joking, right?" Tori crossed her arms, staring wide-eyed at Oliver Wood. He had just told both the twins and her that first-year Harry Potter was going to be playing as Gryffindor's new seeker.

"He's a first-year!" Fred shook his head, but Oliver only shrugged. "McGonagall's orders. Tell Angelina, will you?" The trio nodded, hearing the warning bell ring.

"Also, Tori. You and her have got to be down at the pitch on Saturday for help with tryouts. I'm talking early. Nine am."

"Nine am?!" Tori sighed aghast, why that early? "Nine am." Wood looked at her seriously. Tori groaned, knowing that wasn't going to end up well.

She followed the twins out of the classroom, whining the entire way. "Why Nine? Why aren't I allowed to sleep for once?" Fred and George chuckled at her. "It's one day, Tori."

"One day with no sleep!"

"Hey, there's Harry and Ron! Hey, well done Harry! Wood just told us!" Fred patted the boy on the back. Ron smiled up at them, filling Harry in. "Fred, George, and Tori are on the team too."

"I'm a chaser," Tori explained. Harry looked up at her, nodding along. "My job is to take care of the quaffle, score points. You don't worry about me at all."

"Freddie and I are beaters. Our job is to make sure that you don't get bloodied up too bad. Can't make any promises, of course. Rough game, Quidditch."

Fred chuckled, seeing this as a joke. "Brutal. But no one's died in years. Someone will vanish occasionally..." Harry and Ron began to walk away towards the courtyard but the twins kept going.

"But they'll turn up in a month or two!" George shouted after them. Tori smacked both of their chests. "You'll scare him!"

"It's all just fun!" Fred replied. They made their way through the rest of the hallway and into Potions. Snape stood at his doorway, sneering at every student who even dared to look at him. Godric forbids it.

Tori found having potions with Slytherin really sucked. Snape favored them all the time, and if someone messed up a potion it was Gryffindor's fault. Tori honestly didn't know why Snape was a teacher. He seemed to really hate kids.

Tori took her seat next Angelina and quickly began filling her in what had just happened. "What? He can't be that good, he's never even played!" Angelina was as shocked as Tori.

"Exactly. Oh, bad news. Wood wants us down at the pitch at nine on Saturday for tryouts." Tori rested her head on her fist. The bell had just rung but Snape still was outside.

"What's so bad about it?" Angelina asked. Tori looked at her like it was obvious. "We don't get to sleep in, isn't that-"

"Ms. Silvers. Detention." Snape announced, strolling to the front of the room. Tori turned towards him confused. "What? Why?" She asked. Angelina seemed confused as she was.

"Talking out of turn. You know the rules." Tori had her mouth hanging open. She hadn't even done anything! "Professor, you can't just-" Fred began.

"I can. Mr. Weasley. And unless you'd like one as well you'll sit there and stay quiet." Tori rolled her eyes so hard she could feel them rolling back into her skull. She really hated this class. Fred did as told but still looked upset about it.

He ended up getting detention anyway, for writing in his notebook instead of listening. This only made Tori more upset since students were literally talking loudly in the back of the class but Snape didn't seem to care. Of course, those students were Slytherins.

Tori had been paired up with some Slytherin girl who seemed much more interested in talking to her friend next to her. So, Tori had to do all the work. Snape, of course, took this as a way to see Tori 'showing off' so he deducted five points.

"I swear! If he wasn't a teacher I'd hex him! This is totally unfair!" Tori grumbled as once she and her friends were out of the classroom. Angelina sighed, "You didn't even do anything. Neither of you did!"

"Snape hates us. That's the only explanation." Fred shook his head, his sour expression was stopped with a sudden grinned. "I think Snape needs a nice new prank to loosen him up." George seemed interested, but glanced at his brother. "But he'll know it was us."

Tori stopped walking, thinking as her friends turned around to look at her. She smirked, an idea popping into her head. "Not if we make it look like someone else did it. Like a ghost, perhaps. Maybe... Peeves..."

Fred looked a bit surprised. "Who are you and what have you done with Tori Silvers?"

Tori shrugged. "Snape shouldn't have given me detention."

"You will be cleaning these pots that had suffered failure from students today. Soap and Water. Do not use magic, I will know if you do." Professor Snape directed both Tori and Fred to the mountain of cauldrons.

"Yes, Professor," Tori mumbled watching Snape dismiss himself out of the classroom. She raised an eyebrow at Fred, who seemed surprised as she did. What teacher didn't stay to watch their own detention?

The two got to work, arms deep in some sort of disgusting goop made from failed antidotes. "Merlin's beard. This stuff smells." Tori gaged, careful not to throw up in one.

Fred nodded along, glancing around to see is Snape was coming in the room anytime soon. It didn't seem likely so he walked over to one of the many cabinets and pulled out a vial of Bulbadox powder.

"As far as we know, Snape is teaching first years about Cure for Boils tomorrow. And this..." He gestured to the vail and began pouring it around the inside of Snape's cauldron. "With this nice coat, once he starts brewing tomorrow for an example, boom. It blows up."

Tori smiled. "Boom. Now we just got to get Peeves into this. Mind scrubbing for a moment?"

For the next twenty minutes, the two took turns standing in the hallway while the other finished up scrubbing the cauldrons. Tori knew Peeves would be desperate to find students out of bed, and she was right.

Moments after Tori went back out, Peeves had come bouncing down the hallway. He saw Tori, who ducked back into Snape's classroom. "He's here!" She whispered-shouted to Fred, who quickly left the room out of the back door.

"A student out of bed? Especially a Silvers? Woo." Peeves giggled maddeningly. "Please, Peeves. I just-"

"Silvers is out of bed! Silvers is out of bed! Silvers is out of bed! Silvers is out of bed! Silvers is out of bed! Silvers is out of bed!"

Peeves continued to taunt her, floating around the room as he sang. Tori just watched him, starting to get annoyed. Luckily, Snape and Fred came in at the right moment.

"Peeves! Out of here, now!" Snape shouted. Peeves only look startled for a moment before giggling again. "Aw, Snappy Wapy isn't happy!"

"Now! Before I have to get the Bloody Baron in here!" With that, Peeves vanished. Snape turned back towards the two students, glancing at the now clean cauldrons on the table.

"You two may go. Leave here. Now."

Fred and Tori nodded and rushed out of the classroom to the hallway. Fred waited till they were at the end of the corridor until he gave her a high five. "Seriously. I don't know who you are or what you've honestly done with my best friend, Tori, but boy, I love it."

The following day, all went according to plan. By the time they had lunch almost all the first years were talking about how Snape's cauldron had blown up in his face, the best part, according to them was when they saw Snape chasing down Peeves later.
