xlviii. saving harry potter

If someone would have told Victoria Silvers she would have spent the last few days of her summer planning a breakout, she would have asked them to check into St. Mungo's.

But here Tori was, whispering with Fred, George, and Ronald Weasley at the dinner table, trying not to look too suspicious. That was hard since the twins always looked suspicious.

"We can't use our brooms. Harry can't bring his stuff along then." Ron was quick to shut down most of the twins' ideas, causing them to become frustrated.

"How do we know Harry is even in trouble?" Tori asked, glancing at Molly Weasley, who was setting down plates in front of each of the children. Ron looked at her like it was completely obvious. "He hasn't written back, once. Besides, he lives with muggles who hate magic. You put the pieces together."

Tori nodded slowly. Fred butted in with an idea. "Dad's car. It's the best option. It's quiet, we can stay in the sky, and it will hold all of us."

Tori's eyes widened as bigs as Ron's. "Dad's car?!" Ron whispered, smiling at Molly, who placed a plate down in front of him. Fred and George did the same.

"Freddie's right. It's the best option we've got." George agreed, digging into his slice of meat pie. Tori ducked as Athena flew in, dropping off a letter listed from Cedric Diggory.

Tori had only been writing to a couple of people, which was more than usual. Her family was not one of them. Not even Dove.

Tori thanked her barn owl, petting her gently. She ripped a piece of the crust of her dish and fed it to her owl before watching her fly further into the house. Tori then tucked the letter in her pocket, oblivious to the looks Fred and George were exchanging.

The four of them agreed that at night, once everyone was asleep they would take Arthur's car to save Harry Potter.

They had to wait a while, Mrs. Weasley stayed  up knitting. Tori leaned against her and Ginny's room doorframe, silently watching the stairs for Molly. She flipped threw one of Ginny's magazines, flinching at the sound of every creak in the floorboards.

She eventually must have fallen asleep since she was woken up by Fred shaking her gently. "Hey. Tori. C'mon, we're leaving." He whispered, helping the girl up from her spot.

Her neck and back ached from against the rickety doorframe, she tried her best to stretch, quietly following Fred down the stairs one by one.

The house was eerily quiet as the moon broke through the windows in the kitchen. Fred gestured for them to continue going. "George and Ron are already in the garage." He whispered.

There was a creak from the upper floorboards causing Tori and Fred to freeze in terror. Fred turned quickly, bumping into Tori. The two fell silent, praying that Molly wouldn't catch them. Tori held her breath, glad it was dark enough that Fred couldn't see her blushing.

They stood in the center of the kitchen, not moving a muscle for another minute or so before both silently slipping out the door. "Merlin's beard," Tori whispered to herself, running after Fred towards the garage where George and Ron had already pulled the car out.

"Took you long enough," George muttered, piling into the driver's seat. Fred and Tori hopped in the back, watching the windows of the burrow as the car began to rise in the air.

No lights went on. All good for now.

"Let's make this worth it. You all know if we get caught by Mum it's the end? She'll kill us." George pulled the Ford Anglia up into the sky, The Burrow getting smaller and smaller in the distance.

"Not for me. I'll just say you guys kidnapped me." Tori replied, grinning at the three boys. Ron's ears went pink at the thought of getting caught.

"That's not fair." Fred crossed his arms, looking at his friend who shrugged. The rest of the ride was filled with little talk as the children gazed out the windows, watching the stars and clouds pass them.

"Life isn't." Tori shot back, leaning on the seat in front of her. George seemed to be doing pretty good with the whole driving while flying. "Where'd you learn to drive?" Tori asked him, leaning her chin on the shoulder of his seat.

George glanced at her in the rearview mirror, shrugging. "I dunno. Dad showed Charlie once, who showed us. I'm kind of just winging it."

Tori didn't know if she should be frightened or impressed. She just went with a simple, "oh," and sat back in her seat. Fred watched her gaze out at the stars, having the time of her life. He smiled, feeling his cheeks heat up when she met his eyes.

"Is it bad I want to roll down this window?" She asked. Ron overheard and shook his head. "Don't. If you end up falling out we won't be able to catch you."

"Don't be such a buzzkill," Tori muttered as she wrinkled her nose at the second year. They started to fly closer to the houses of the Muggle neighborhood below. Tori watched all the houses in shock. These were Muggle houses! With Muggles in them!

"There! That's the house! Number four!" Ron pointed to a brown house in the distance. "You're positive?" George asked, going in for it. "I'm pretty sure I know my best mates house."

They stopped in front of a room with bars over the window, Tori furrowed her eyebrows wondering if this was a new Muggle thing.

Ron rolled the window down, knocking on the window. A figure jumped into the window, shocked. It was Harry.

"Ron!" He gasped, glancing around the car. "Ron, how did you— what the—"

"All right, Harry?" George asked, raising an eyebrow at the young boy who was set in a daze. "What's been going on?" Ron asked. "Why haven't you been answering my letters? I've asked you to stay about twelve times, and then Dad came home and said you'd got an official warning for using magic in front of Muggles."

Tori raised an eyebrow, surprised. She wasn't aware of this at all. Harry sighed. "It wasn't me... and how did he know?"

"He works for the ministry, you know we're not supposed to do spells outside of school..." Ron began the lecture while Fred grabbed the rope on the floor of the car.

"Stop gibbering," Ron said. "We've come to take you home."

"You can't magic me out—"

"We don't need to. You've forgotten who I have with me." Ron jerked his head towards the twins and Tori, who waved.

"Tie that around the bars," Fred tossed Harry the end of the rope. Harry did as told. "If the Dursleys wake up, I'm dead."

"Don't you worry about that," Tori replied, sticking her head out of the window. "Oh. Stand back..."

The car began to rev loudly as George stepped on the gas. There was a clean crunch, symbolizing the bars had been taken clean off the window. George backed up, getting as close as possible to Harry's bedroom window.

"Get in," Ron said.

"But all my Hogwarts stuff— my wand— my broomstick—"

"Where is it?"

"Locked in the cupboard under the stairs, and I can't get out of this room—"

"No problem," George said, opening the door. "Out if the way Harry."

"Leave it to us," Fred replied. Tori nodded as the three of them crawled catlike through the window. Tori took out a hairpin from her pocket, handing it to George.

"A lot of wizards think it's a waste of time, knowing this sort of Muggle trick." Fred explained. "but we feel they're skills worth learning, even if they're a bit slow."

There was a small click and the door swung open. Harry quickly warned them about the cream at the bottom stairs and the three dashed down into the darkness.

Tori kept watch, staring up the stairs while Fred was picking the lock to the cupboard. He managed to get it open, quietly, with the help of George, pulling Harry's trunk out.

Tori came over to assist, gazing inside the tiny room. She noticed a plain bed there, frowning. Did someone sleep in there? It was covered with spiders (yuck) and could hardly fit Harry's trunk.

She didn't have time to dwell on it since both the twins were already halfway up the stairs. Tori closed the tiny door, noticing the lock on the outside. This didn't sit right with her, at all.

She rushed back up the stairs in time to see Ron help George load the trunk into the back of the car. Tori hopped in, making sure there was enough room. She wanted to ask Harry about the cupboard but there was a loud voice from behind.

"THAT RUDDY OWL!"

Harry leaped across the room, grabbing his owl. Tori turned to see the doorknob rattle and a rather large man enter, red in the face as he saw the group of children.

Harry rushed back to the car, but the man grabbed his ankle. Tori tried pulling Harry with all her might. "LET GO!" She yelled at the fat man.

"PETUNIA! He's getting away! HE'S GETTING AWAY!"

With the help of the Weasley's, they were able to whisk Harry into the car as Fred put his foot down on the gas.

"See you next summer!" Harry yelled to his family, causing the group around him to laugh loudly.

Smooth sailing from here. Tori thought.
