lv. quidditch and mudbloods

"C'mon, Tori! We need to get going!" Angelina shook her awake for the fifth time that morning. Tori stretched, getting up. "I seriously don't see why we have to get up early." She murmured, rubbing her eyes.

"Wood wants us down at the pitch for practice." Angelina yawned, helping Tori out of bed. "I know that but why so early is the actual question."

The two girls met the twins, who were waiting for them down in the common room. "Wow Tori, you actually woke up." Fred teased. Tori groaned in response, tightening her ponytail.

The four made their way down, Katie joining them once they passed the great hall, to the Quidditch pitch where Wood stood in the tents waiting. "Took you all long enough."

"It's hardly six in the morning." Tori snapped, taking a seat on the bench next to the twins. They all sat there, waiting for anyone else to come. Tori was nodding off against the wall behind her, trying not to fall asleep.

"There you are, Harry, what kept you?" Wood asked the boy but gave him no time to reply. "Now, I wanted a quick talk with you all before we actually get into the fields, because I have spent the whole summer devising a whole new training program, which I think will make all the difference..."

Wood pulled in a large chalkboard that had plays, arrows, and lines all over it. He tapped the board with his wand and the lines began to move around. He then launched a long speech about his new tactics that was so long, Fred's head dropped into Tori's shoulder and he began to snore.

The first board took twenty minutes, but there was a second board under that, and a third one under that. Tori nodded along, waking herself up every few minutes.

"So," Wood said, causing Tori to jerk awake and for her to wake Fred, who was still sleeping on her shoulder. "Any questions?"

"Yeah, I have a question." George, who had woken up with a start, asked. "Why couldn't you tell us this yesterday, you know, when we were all awake?" Wood scowled, glaring at the entire team.

"Now listen here, you lot. We could have won the Quidditch Cup last year— but due to some circumstances it of our control—"

Tori hid her face in her hands, wishing everyone would just block that last match out. She knew Harry felt guilty about it as well, as he shifted in his seat uncomfortably.

Wood was trying to regain control, it was clear their terrible defeat was still torturing him.

"So, we're training harder than ever this year! ...Okay, let's go put our new theories in practice." Wood grabbed him broomstick, leading the still tired and stiff team out of the tent. Wood's speech had lasted so long the sun was now in the sky, Tori sighed, mounting her broom and kicking off into the air.

She had to admit, it was nice to feel that thrill as the wind blew against her face. She enjoyed Quidditch and definitely was looking forward to it this year. It just sucked that they had to get up so early...

Tori was racing the Katie and Angelina around the field when she kept hearing something, "What's that ticking sound?" She asked, peering over to a young Gryffindor who was shouting at Harry to look over.

"I dunno. Wood doesn't look happy, though." Katie made an odd face while Angelina pointed out that Alicia and Lee had arrived to watch.

"Well... that doesn't look good." Katie gestured to the ground, where the Slytherin team was now standing face to face with Wood, the twins, and Harry. The three girls swiftly landed only to be met face to face with a couple of Slytherins. They were the only girls on the field since the Slytherin team was filled with boys.

Tori glanced over at her brother, he was standing behind Flint smirking at Wood, who was spitting with rage. "But I booked it! I booked the field!"

"Ah," Flint mocked. "But we have special permission." He handed Wood a note that he read out loud. "I, Professor S. Snape, give the Slytherin team permission to practice using the Quidditch pitch, owing the need to train their new seeker."

"That can't be fair," Tori said loudly. Flint smirked at her, "Oh, but it is." Wood, on the other hand, was distracted. "You got a new seeker? Who?"

The crowd divided, revealing an almost white-headed boy Tori knew too well. Draco Malfoy.

"Aren't you Lucius Malfoy's son?" Angelina asked. Fred rolled his eyes, getting a glare from Draco. "Funny you should mention Draco's father," Flint said, the entire Slytherin team cracked a nasty grin. "Let us show you the very generous gift he had given us."

The seven of them held out their brooms, revealing their Nimbus Two Thousand and Ones. Tori couldn't believe her eyes, even Avalon had one. But how? Flint wasn't slow to explain.

"Very latest model. Only came out last month. I believe it outstrips the To Thousand series very much. As for the Cleansweep—" He glanced at Fred and George's brooms, "— sweeps the boards with them."

There was a moment of silence as anyone from the Gryffindor team tried to think of anything to say. Flint eyed something, "Oh, look." He said. "A field invasion."

Ron and Hermione came rushing over. Ron began demanding what was going. "What's he doing here?" He gestured at Malfoy, who looked amused.

"I'm the new Slytherin Seeker, Weasley." He replied stiffly. "We were all just admiring my father's gift for the team." He flashed his new broom in the sunlight. Ron's jaw dropped. Tori felt the same way.

"Good, aren't they?" The boy asked smoothly. "Oh don't worry, I'm sure the Gryffindor team could raise some gold to get new brooms too. You could raffle off those Cleansweep Fives; I expect a museum would pay well for them"

"Shut it." Tori hissed, taking a step forward toward the blonde-haired boy. Malfoy only chuckled.

"At least no one on the Gryffindor team had to but their way in. They got in on pure talent." Hermione snapped, looking proud of herself for that comeback.

Malfoy's smug face flickered.

"No one asked your opinion, you filthy little Mudblood."

That caused an uproar. Flint had to block Fred and George from tackling Malfoy. "How dare you!" Tori shrieked, ready to throw punches, but two of the Slytherin chasers got in the way. Angelina and Katie both yelled some not so nice things at him. But Ron yanked his wand out of his robe, "You'll pay for that one, Malfoy!"

There was a loud bang echoing throughout the stadium as Ron went tumbling to the ground. "Ron!" Hermione squealed, rushing toward him. The Slytherin team erupted with laughter. Flint and Avalon had to hold on their brooms for support while Malfoy was on all fours, pounding his fist on the ground.

The Gryffindor team rushed over to see Ron puking up slugs, but no one seemed to want to help him. Harry and Hermione quickly picked him up, rushing him off the field. Tori grimaced, watching one of the slugs.

"Now, I think it's time you all leave," Flint said once he gained control. "We need to practice."

Wood muttered something under his breath, leading his team off the field. They weren't even halfway when Tori heard Flint again.

"You know Avalon, aren't you a little concerned your sister is with a ton of blood traitors?"

Tori glanced at Fred, who's balled his fist. "He's not worth it." Wood muttered, glancing at his team. She then heard Avalon scoff. "Not surprised really, some times the blood just runs a little stale."

Tori hitched a breath, stopping dead in her tracks. She immediately remembered last summer.

"Besides, you wouldn't want a staleblood associated with you anyway."

"... I wasn't the one who did that."

Yeah, right.

Fred turned around, looking angry. He stepped forward but Tori put her hand out to stop him. "He can't get away with that!" He hissed, glaring at Avalon.

Tori gave him a look and began walking calmly back towards the Slytherin team. They were all laughing, splitting the crowd directly as Tori walked through it.

"Ooh, she's mad..." Someone snickered while others joined in.

"What's she gonna do?"

"Oh, look out Avalon."

Tori marched right up to her brother who was snickering. She stood there for a moment and then did something she's wanted to do for the longest time.

She punched him square in the face.
