i. welcome to hogwarts
It was breathtaking.
Well, to Victoria it was.
After waiting for eleven years, Victoria Silvers had finally be accepted to Hogwarts. Like her older brother, Avalon was, and how her younger sister Dove will be when it is her time. The Hogwarts express let out a fierce screech as a ten-minute warning. Victoria followed her brother with her cart full of anything and everything you could possibly need. Her brother had found some of his friends and was catching up with them. Over the summer holiday he had gotten many letters Victoria hopped she would be the same.
"Now, check to make sure you have all of your things." Victoria's mother told her as she stood behind her daughter, her gaze was set on a family that probably didn't agree with what the Silvers believed in, since she was looking at them in disgust. She whispered something to Victoria's father before he nodded with her. Victoria ignored them, checking her bags to make sure they were all there.
"Do you have your wand?" Her father asked, turning away from the family and to his daughter. Victoria pulled it out of her robe pocket, showing off the wand. It was a eleven inch Rosewood wand with unicorn tail hair and a good amount of flexibility. She stared at it, remembering what the shopkeeper, Ollivander, had told her.
"I see great things in you, Victoria Silvers. That wand will do, great things."
She didn't know what that meant, but she didn't dwell on it. She couldn't. The absolutely gorgeous owl in the cage sitting on top of Victoria's trunk screeched, causing Victoria's mother to roll her eyes. "I don't understand why you had to get an owl. You could have just used your brothers. Especially if he's going to be writing from the same place as you."
Victoria came from a long line of purebloods, and an even longer line of Slytherins. So, it wouldn't be surprising if she was sorted into Slytherin. No, she corrected herself. When she was sorted into Slytherin. Not if.
"She's beautiful, mother. How could I not want such a beautiful creature?" Victoria asked, she then swatted her sister's hand away from the cage. "Stop it, Dove."
The train whistle blew once more, causing her brother to turn and call her. "C'mon, we haven't got all day."
"Alright, bloody hell. Goodbye mother, father." She kissed them both on the cheek. "I'll write to you tomorrow morning!"
"Goodbye, dear. Yes, write to us then!"
There was no, 'we love you' or 'have a great year!' Unlike the other families, Victoria walked passed. The Silvers were... more professional than that. Victoria began boarded the train, bumping into someone on the way.
"Oh, sorry," Victoria turned around seeing the boy. He shrugged. "It's alright." Victoria heard her brother turn and laughed, looking at the boy's older brother.
"Ah. Percy Weasley, still at Hogwarts again? I'm surprised you haven't been kicked out, you and that brother of yours." Avalon smirked, glaring at the red-headed boy who stood tall.
The boy she bumping into stood next to his twin... causing Victoria to not know which one to apologize to.
"Nice to see you too, Avalon. I see you have your sister here."
Victoria gave a weak smile, immediately regretting it as the boy didn't smile back. "Avalon, can we just go sit down?" She asked him, her voice almost a whisper. She didn't really like his attitude toward these people she never met.
Her brother shot her a look and glanced back at the family of gingers, still smirking. "Yeah, come on, we got better things to do than talking to the Weasleys."
Her brother took off, leaving her in front of the Weasleys. She looked between both of the twins, forgetting who she bumped into. "Uh, sorry again."
She rushed after her brother, keeping her head down until they reached inside of a cart. Her brother was talking with a couple of other kids. They were all talking and laughing making Victoria feel awkward. She just smiled at her brother.
"Oh, guys. This is my sister, uh, Victoria." Avalon gestured time her as she sat down across from him.
"Hi." She has a little wave to everyone before gazing out the window. Each of them introduced themselves but Victoria couldn't keep their names straight.
She knew she should have at least remembered them, especially if they were going to be apart of her house. Victoria didn't care to think any more of it as she leaned against the window, letting the cold feeling run through her face. She didn't feel well, almost embarrassed.
The rest of the ride was a bore. Avalon tried to make a conversation with Victoria. But every time she spoke, the others would just stare at her. So, Victoria just stared into the Daily Prophet, rereading the same article several times. But by the time the train stopped, she didn't even know what it was about.
"First years, first years this way." A giant built man was standing by the train with a lantern. He was huge, like a giant. "First years!" He called once again. Victoria turned to her brother who nodded to her with a smile. "I'll see you tonight." Victoria smiled and made her way towards the large group of first years.
Victoria stood next to a girl, who looked at her with a smile. "Hi," the girl greeted her. "Hello." Victoria nodded back, a grin on her face. "Are you excited for Hogwarts?" The girl was obviously trying to make small talk, and Victoria didn't mind. "Sure am, I'm Victoria Silvers." As soon as she reached her hand out she saw the girl's smile waver. "Oh. I'm... Angelina Johnson." Victoria nodded. "Angelina's a pretty name."
"Oh, thanks. My parents liked it too." A weak laugh came from Angelina and Victoria matched it too.
"Alright, first years. Let's go to the boats."
✧ ✦ ✧
She was sitting near the water, the tips of her fingers were tracing the water before she set her gaze upon the towering castle.
Hogwarts was something else to Victoria. It filled her with a sense of belonging, and happiness. She smiled a wide smile coming upon the other side of the lake. Each boat had to dock before anyone was let off, and once that happened, they would be off to the sorting hat.
Out of the corner of Victoria's eye, she saw someone looking at her. She turned to see one of the ginger-haired twins glancing at her. Victoria gave him a small smiling and he returned it. She hoped it meant they were good about earlier. She really didn't want any trouble.
The group of eleven-year-olds made their way inside the towering castle and up the stairway. The group stopped in front of a rather thin woman with a warm smile on her face. She was dressed in a slender green dress that sparkles like an emerald.
Victoria recognized her as Professor McGonagall, her brother didn't like her, he thought she was too strict and snotty. Victoria decided to wait before forming her own opinion.
"Welcome to Hogwarts," said Professor McGonagall. "The start-of-term banquet will begin shortly, but before you take your seats in the Great Hall, you will be sorted into your houses. The Sorting is a very important ceremony because, while you are here, your house will be your family within Hogwarts. You will have classes with the rest of your house, sleep in your house dormitory, and spend free time in your house common room.
"The four houses are called Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin." Victoria felt her heart jolt with excitement. "Each house has its own noble history and each had produced outstanding witches and wizards. While you are at Hogwarts, your triumphs will earn you house points, while any rule-breaking will lose your house points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded the house cup, a great honor. I hope each of you will be a great credit to whichever house becomes yours.
"The Sorting Hat Ceremony will take place momentarily in front of the rest of the school. I suggest you fix yourselves up get ready as you wait." Professor McGonagall turned around and walked into the Great Hall.
Several students behind Victoria began to whisper, asking about how they were going to be sorted. Someone mentioned a test, making Victoria fill with shame.
A test? She didn't study for a test, she hardly knew any spells except for the ones her parents cast around the house. Why didn't her brother warn her? Or at least quiz her? Did he want her to fail? She began to panic.
"Alright, quiet now." Professor McGonagall told them when she came out a few moments later. "Perhaps moving into a line? Thank you." She waited until they were in a line and pushed the doors away. Victoria swore that everyone gasped.
The Great Hall was stunning, the night sky with candles floating in the air covered the ceiling, making it seem like there was no ceiling, to begin with. The structure of The Great Hall blew her mind. She couldn't take it all in. It was so beautiful.
In between the mists of it, Victoria caught eye of her brother, who was sitting at the Slytherin table. He winked at her and she smiled back. She would be sitting next to him in only moments time.
The line came to a stopping point and stopped in front of the teachers, who sat at a very large table. Professor McGonagall walked up the stairs and pulled a stool to the center. She then put and dirty looking hat down, it looked like it was ancient.
There was a moment of silence before the hat gained a mouth and began to sing,
"Oh, you may not think I'm pretty,
But don't judge on what you see,
I'll eat myself if you can find
A smarter hat than me.
You can keep your bowlers black,
Your top hats sleek and tall,
For I'm the Hogwarts Sorting Hat
And I can cap them all.
There's nothing hidden in your head
The Sorting Hat can't see,
So try me on and I will tell you
Where you ought to be.
You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve, and chivalry
Set Gryffindors apart;
You might belong in Hufflepuff,
Where they are just and loyal,
Those patient Hufflepuffs are true
And unafraid of toil;
Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,
if you have a ready mind,
Where those of wit and learning,
Will always find their kind;
Or perhaps in Slytherin
You'll make your real friends,
Those cunning folks use any means
To achieve their ends.
So put me on! Don't be afraid!
And don't get in a flap!
You're in safe hands (though I have none)
For I'm a Thinking Cap!"
The entire hall burst with applause and Victoria was quite shocked, a hat that sung. And her brother never told her?
Professor McGonagall came back toward the center and opened a very large scroll. "When I call your name, come up and sit on the stool to be sorted. Andrew, Kayla!"
A dark-haired girl skipped her way up the steps and sat down, the hat falling almost over her entire face. There was a moment of silence before the hat yelled. "RAVENCLAW." The Ravenclaw table leaped up with cheers as she bounced over towards the table.
"Bones, Simon!"
"HUFFLEPUFF." Shouted the hat, Simon made his way towards a friendly-looking Hufflepuff table.
Lisa Cook got Slytherin, Laurens Carter was placed in Gryffindor.
Many names were called, leaving Victoria only feeling more anxious. "SLYTHERIN." Screeched the sorting hat, making Victoria realized it was her turn.
"Silvers, Victoria!" With a big breath, Victoria made her way up the stairs. She glanced at her brother before sitting down and having the hat placed upon her head.
"Oh a Silvers, eh? I know where to put you... oh, oh, my, interesting. Yes, very interesting."
Victoria was confused, why hadn't it placed her yet? She was Slytherin by blood.
"Interesting, yes. You'll do well there. How about, GRYFFINDOR!"
Victoria's heart stopped. "What?"
Hiya Everyone!
