Chapter 17 - Ice cold
That morning, Yoongi left the hotel as early as he could, leaving only a note as he slipped away.
His body was still aching from the fever. He should have been resting but he knew he had to make things right now.
It was time to cut to the chase.
Even so, he caught a taxi which took him to the market, where, at a secret stall hidden behind all the others, he bought a gun. His first gun.
It was black and cold, and a little heavy in his hands, glinting slightly in the light. He had never touched one before - he had been too afraid - but now he was filled with a burning desire to win. To most it would have looked tacky, but to Yoongi, his first gun was like a first kiss.
He had already had his first kiss...
He reached up and touched his lips, remembering the moment. He had been overwhelmed by shock, but Jimin's lips were like medicine, calming him down and easing his fever...
But then he remembered Jimin's cold last words.
"I hate loving you - I hate it so much..."
Yoongi shook his head, as if trying to dislodge the memory from his brain, and hid the gun inside his jacket.
It was only a short walk to the police station, so he made his way there slowly, cherishing the last moments he would spent as a free man.
Oh well - it was worth it if he could rescue Jungkook. That boy needed to live.
When he reached the station, he went inside calmly, making sure the black mask he was wearing was safely hooked over his ears.
There was a man at a desk. Yoongi could have recognised him from a mile away - Kim Seokjin.
"Uh, excuse me, Sir?" Yoongi asked softly, making the man look up. "I am here with information on the whereabouts of Park Jimin."
"Really, Sir?" Jin asked, smiling. "Well, can you tell me here or should we go to the interview room so no one else is listening? I would recommend the interview room because it is more private."
Jin stood up but Yoongi took a step back, feeling for the gun in his pocket.
"It's ok - I can tell you now." He smirked, unhooking the mask from one ear and throwing it away as he pulled the gun from his jacket. "Because he is right here."
He pointed the gun at the officer, growling a little.
Jin looked shocked and hit the emergency button, sounding a screeching alarm.
Namjoon and a few others ran out but froze when they saw the gun.
"Min... I advise you to lower the gun now before anyone gets hurt." Jin said softly. "Put it down."
"Nice frikking try!" He growled, cocking the gun with a loud click. "Now listen. I believe you have one or two of my friends down here right?"
Silence...
"ANSWER ME!"
"Y...Yes!" One of the other men stuttered, getting kicked in the shin by Namjoon shortly after. "Three."
"Three?" Yoongi asked. "Which three?"
"Jeon Jungkook, Jung Hoseok and Kim Taehyung." Namjoon sighed. "Why?"
Wait... Hobi was alive? And what was Tae doing here? How did they find him? So many questions flooded Yoongi's brain but he had to brush them aside...
"First, let me see them. I want them all out here. Next, I want you to let them go free, and never bother them again alright? You know that they are innocent. Then - AND ONLY THEN - will I hand myself in, along with my gun. If anyone tries anything funny I won't hesitate to pull the trigger."
Namjoon looked at Yoongi.
"You swear you will come quietly if we let them go?"
"You have my word."
Namjoon nodded and signalled for three of his men to go down to the cells. This was a big decision, but if he could capture Min without any casualties, that was the main thing. Also, the fact he was so willingly handing himself in like this meant his job would be a whole lot easier in the long run - less paperwork!
Down in the cell, Hoseok's painkillers had worn off, and Jungkook was doing his best to comfort him when three men arrived at the door.
"Get up. You're free to go. We will escort you to the exit."
Jungkook looked at Tae. Was this a trick?
Tae shrugged his shoulders and stood up, going over to Jungkook and helping him get Hoseok to his feet.
"Lets go then." Tae sighed.
They were led up to the main room, where an amazing scene met their eyes. Yoongi was pointing a gun at the officers, who were staring back at him amazed.
"You see, Min?" Namjoon asked. "They are here, they are healthy and Hoseok is healing well. Now if we let them go, you must stand by your word."
"I promise." Yoongi growled.
"What promise?" Jungkook asked. "Yoongi... what did you do?"
"Jungkook. You need to take Hoseok to the Kokiga hotel. Jiminie is waiting. Take care of him for me ok? And make sure he eats." Yoongi gulped.
"Yoongi... what do you mean?"
"I am leaving now. You need to take care of them. Promise?" Yoongi demanded.
With teary eyes, Jungkook promised. He knew Yoongi was handing himself in to save them...
"When they walk out of the station, I will lower my gun." The blonde explained. "Let them out."
Supporting Hoseok, Tae and Jungkook, who were both near tears at their hyung, they made their way to the exit.
Just before they left, Jungkook turned.
"Thank you, Hyungnim..."
"Any time." Yoongi smiled sadly. "Good luck..."
The minute they left the building, Yoongi tossed his gun on the floor with a clatter and put his hands up, closing his eyes as he was rushed by several officers.
He was pinned to the ground as his gun was retrieved, and Namjoon clipped handcuffs over his wrists.
"Its finally over for you Min." he whispered. "I am arresting you on multiple charges. For breach of privacy and hacking illegally on multiple occasions, for possession of..."
The man's voice was blurred out in his mind. Yoongi hurt all over: The agony of the policemen's forceful hands against his weak ill body; the old wounds from the barn incident, but the most painful feeling was the one ripping through his heart.
He knew he would never see Jimin again. He knew he would never be able to cherish that angelic smile again. He knew he was letting go of his friends until the day he died. He would be alone henceforth. He had lost the game.
He was yanked up into a standing position, and practically dragged by Namjoon to a cell - the very one the three boys had been in minutes ago.
After being thrown violently down, he looked up at the officer, who was smirking.
"It's been fun, Min - really - but the game is finally over, and I am standing on the winning podium."
"F*** you." Yoongi spat, glaring daggers at him. "B******"
"No need for the profanity, Min." Namjoon tutted. "Anyway I best go and fill out your report."
Yoongi flipped him off as he locked the door and left him alone.
It was cold. It was dark.
He felt tears prick his eyes and he curled up in one corner, sobbing his eyes out. After everything they had been through... it was finally over for him.
All he hoped was that Jimin, Tae, Jungkook and Hobi were safe. They were the only things that mattered. The police could abuse him and give him terrible food off which he could barely survive, but at least his brothers were safe.
Eventually, the fever overtook him and collapsed limply, lying on the cold ground. His breathing was shallow, and his skin was drenched in a cold sweat. He was really ill this time... his body couldn't take it any more.
Someone probably opened the cell door. He heard a gasp - at least he thought he did. Slightly aware of someone kneeling beside him, Yoongi felt a hand placed on his forehead.
The next thing he knew was that someone was wrapping a blanket around his shoulders.
He opened his eyes slightly to see an officer above him.
"Leave me alone..." he groaned, hitting the man's hand away.
"Stop." The policeman sighed. "Hold still.
He wiped his sweaty forehead with a damp cloth, and Yoongi immediately felt better.
"My name is Jihoon, but everyone calls me Woozi." The man said softly. "I will take care of you."
"I don't want... your help." Yoongi panted. "Leave me alone..."
Ignoring him, Woozi continued, wiping away his sweat and stroking his hair.
Yoongi hit the officer's hand hard, making the man flinch away.
"I SAID I DIDN'T WANT YOUR HELP!"
"But you need it." The person said calmly.
Eventually, Yoongi gave in and laid still, too tired to protest any longer. He fell asleep with "Woozi" beside him.
His thoughts were haunted by thoughts of the boys. He had finally been able to repay them for their troubles.
Hoseok was still leaning on the other two boys as they rested on a bench not far from the station.
"Why would Yoongi do that for us?" Hoseok asked. "After lying to us for all this time. Why would he change his mind now?"
"Because he is a good man really..." Jungkook sighed, "or at least... he has a good heart."
"Who is this Jimin guy we have to find?" Taehyung asked, sitting up.
"Our friend. Park Jimin. The guy the police thought was the culprit after Yoongi changed the name." Jungkook sighed. "He and Yoongi escaped when I led them to the barn."
Jungkook still regretted that, and fell silent.
Hoseok smiled and wrapped his arm around his shoulder.
"It's past Kookie. You can't change it. We just have to focus on these days before it comes to an end."
"But don't you have a ticket for the rocket?" Taehyung asked.
Jungkook looked shocked.
"How did you-?"
"Hacker." Taehyung interrupted with a sheepish grin.
"Oh." Jungkook nodded. "Well screw it. I'm not going."
"What rocket?" Hoseok asked.
"When I was working for the two Kims, Namjoon offered me a ticket off the planet if I helped them capture Yoongi. It doesn't matter anyway. I don't want to leave. What's the point of a life at all if you guys aren't in it?"
The cold, unsociable, cocky Jungkook has melted away. Now, all that was left was a human being - one who cared about his brothers.
This feeling of friendship was new to him, but he guessed that, when a person is truly loved, they too can learn to be a good person, no matter how crappy they treated people before.
When they were rested, Taehyung called a taxi and they told the driver the name of the hotel.
It wasn't a long trip, and soon the taxi pulled up outside a shabby looking building.
"I guess if they needed a place to go, they weren't too picky last night." Jungkook sighed. "Come on - let's get Hobi in."
They entered the building, which was definitely not a 5 star hotel, and asked the woman at the desk.
"Is there a room here for Park Jimin?" Taehyung asked.
The lady checked, but shook her head.
"Not many people are here this time of year. There are no Park Jimins."
"Maybe Min Yoongi." Jungkook added.
"Yes. There is one room under his name. Room 207."
They thanked her and hurried off, locating the room.
Thy knocked on the door.
No answer.
"Jiminie?" Jungkook asked softly. "It's Jungkook."
Some shuffling was heard inside, and the lock clicked, but the door didn't open.
"Where is... Yoongi?" Jimin asked quietly through the door.
"The police station." Jungkook sighed, "he sacrificed himself in a trade to get us out."
"Us?"
Jimin opened the door and gasped as he saw Hoseok.
"Hobi Hyung!" He shouted, running forward and hugging him round the waist. "You're ok! You're alive!"
Tears of joy streamed down Jimin's face as Hoseok wrapped his arms over his shoulders.
"Hey Jiminie."
"Come in quick." Jimin said, taking Hoseok's weight and leading them in.
Tae hadn't spoken yet. He doubted the boy had seen him in the excitement. He stood silently beside Jungkook as Jimin helped Hoseok sit down.
Jungkook was surprised Jimin wasn't asking about Yoongi, and why he was in the station. He didn't know the boy knew - he didn't know anything that happened the previous night - all he thought was that Jiminie was excited about Hobi.
"Who's the kid with the fluffy hair?" Jimin asked Hobi.
Taehyung looked annoyed at the "fluffy hair" comment, but Jungkook burst out laughing.
"This is Taehyung. One of Yoongi's old friends." Hoseok introduced.
At the mention of Yoongi's name, Jimin tensed up again.
"Are you a hacker too?"
Taehyung looked down and sighed.
"Y..yes."
"So you know then..." Jungkook sighed.
Jimin nodded and sat back on the chair, his eyes misting up.
"Yes... I know." He said quietly. "I know that frikking b****** lied to me the whole time. I know he tricked me and made me make the mistake of thinking he was my friend."
"If he wasn't your friend, why would he have given himself up at the station?" Jungkook asked.
"Why don't you ask him if you're so clever, Sherlock Holmes?" Jimin spat, standing up and leaving the room in silence.
Jungkook looked at his shoes and but his lip, but Tae put his arm round his shoulder.
"It's ok. He doesn't mean anything by it."
"Leave it to me." Hoseok smiled softly, standing up with a soft grunt and following Jimin out of the room.
Tae put a finger under Jungkook's chin and listed his head.
"Smile more, Kid. It's good for you." He said with a wink before letting go and going to see if there was any food.
