Chapter 67
I'm hosting a contest so uh,,, details are at the bottom if you're interested. Also read the note at the bottom if you want to know what the actually hell happened to the cover, and why.
This was written on my phone you guys. I went over like four times checking for typos but if you see "Naruto" anywhere in there, it's because Neito's name kept autocorrecting to it and I'm sorry--
Third person pov
"It seems we've come across a complication." Mic spoke, scratching the back of his neck as he squinted at the paper. Next to him, Aizawa couldn't help but grimace. Count on the two flashiest students in 1-A to accomplish something that hasn't happened in almost twenty years. "With Bakugo and Todoroki both at a draw and out of commission, we're left with an odd number of finalists!"
Lillian, Hitoshi, and Neito all exchanged glances as the crowd erupted into excited murmurs at the possibilities. It was pretty plain to see just where this was heading. Even better, the Meme Three weren't against it. In fact, they supported the idea of a three-way match. If that's what was decided. The crowd probably expected something more than what they'd inevitably end up doing, but that was besides the point.
In other news, Izuku was okay. His injured hand would never function the same again, but details, details, right? He'd fretted over Lillian despite the one with the lifelong impairment. He seemed quite proud of himself, and Neito had called him 'therapist of the year' which nearly made the boy cry. Suspecting he was on some sort of painkillers, they sent him back to his seat with hugs and back-pats, with the promise to hang out later. Izuku had marched off claiming he was sitting next to Todoroki and wouldn't move from his "station" as he was calling it.
"Poor guy." Hitoshi was. Cameras continued to ghost over them, sometimes stopping to peek at what the trio of finalists were doing it. Neito and Hitoshi did their best to distract Lillian in those moments. The girl was exhausted both physically and mentally. The stress of finding out about Endeavor and running into him on two separate occasion was taking its toll, not to mention the fact that she'd frozen him twice as well. All this happening in the same day had her stressed, anxious, and ready to go home and collapse underneath a pile of blankets. Neito and Hitoshi couldn't blame her.
"Midoriya puts the plus in plus ultra, that's for sure." Neito shook his head a little. Lillian nodded in agreement, watching Yeet curl around her fingers. The feeling of his scales skimming over her skin was a rather satisfying and calming sensation. She was glad he'd been yeeted at her, no matter how terrifying it had been. Even if her life had flashed before her eyes, at least she had a precious son to dote on.
"Alright, go ahead an introduce yourself." Lillian said suddenly. Hitoshi and Neito jumped to attention.
"My name is Michael with a B, and I've been afraid of insects my entire-" Hitoshi started. He was cut off soon after, as he should have been.
"Stop, stop, stop." Neito shook his head. "Where?"
"Hm?" Hitoshi asked.
"Where's the B?" Lillian narrowed her eyes. Hitoshi and Neito both adopted scared looks.
"There's a bee?" They both hissed out shakily, breaking down into what was more of a series of wheezes rather than actual laughter. Lillian grinned at them, shaking her head just a little. She was so lucky. How had she found such cool friends? They were too good for her.
"AAAAnd we're back! The judges have decided on how to solve this little dilemma of ours," Mic grinned, voice echoing across the stadium. "They've decided on a three way match between Hitoshi Shinso, Neito Monoma, and our precious little Lillian! The first person out will take third place, the second will take second, and the last kiddo standing is first! Sound good to everyone else?"
If the cheers were anything to go by, everyone was just fine with it. Cementoss stepped up to the field and began to shift the rectangular field into something more circular for their three-way match. The meme three stood up, Neito nudging Lillian up when she froze. Camera's all shifted to them as Hitoshi began out of the seating area, Neito close behind with his hands on Lillian's shoulders. The girl was having trouble processing the fact that she'd just been called out.
"How will this fated fight between three best friends go?! Will there be betrayal? Tears?" Mic asked. His smile dimmed suddenly as a look of realization seemed to fall, pulling the microphone closer to himself and beginning to harshly whisper into it, "I swear to god, if either of you make the little listener cry, I'll-"
"And that's enough of that." Aizawa said, yanking the microphone from Mic's hands before he could react. He'd trained these kids anyway. Wasn't it his right to announce their final match? It was clear as day even to himself, who loved to deny his own emotions. He was proud. Incredibly proud. The three teens he'd devoted his time and effort to had thanked him by coming out on the very top. They weren't stuck up enough to work alone, using each others strengths to cover their own weaknesses.
They all went to the same gate. They could go to the marked places on the field once they got out there. Neito and Hitoshi grinned at one another, and then at Lillian. The girl offered a small smile back, pulling the collar of her shirt away and letting Yeet back into the safety of her cleavage. The two boys didn't bat an eye. If they had boobs and a snake son, they'd be doing the same thing.
"You guys both ready?" Hitoshi asked, one hand on Neito's shoulder, and the other on Lillian's. The blonde glanced down at the freckled girl, and she glanced back. They both smiled. They were ready for this. Lillian wanted this to be over, but she also didn't at the same time. It had by far been one of the best experiences in her life. She'd been brave, and she'd worked hard with her friends. She felt proud of herself.
"Let's do this, yeah?" Neito cocked his head.
"Y-Yeah." Lillian agreed with a nod.
"Alright, alright!" Mic cheered, swiping the microphone back. Aizawa glared. "Who's ready for the finals?!"
The crowd erupted with heated cheers and whoops. The three finalists had quickly become fan favorites. Lillian was the shy yet brave girl from 1-A who, while a little nervous in front of a crowd, was willing to hurt if it meant she made it to the finish line. She'd immediately won them over at the beginning when she froze over two-hundred people with a blink of her eyes. Meek or not, she had fire and pulled through when it counted. She wanted this just as much as everyone else.
Hitoshi was the determined teen from General Studies. It was evident he wanted to be in the hero course, but he didn't bear any ill will towards his two friends. To him it didn't matter what class they were in, and it was the same the other way around. He used his quirk the best he could and contributed his all to the group. He wanted his friends to pass just as much as he wanted to.
Neito Monoma was another one. His quirk was interesting and had the potential to be flashy depending on the situation. B hero classes had always had been with A hero classes, no matter the year. It didn't seem Neito cared as he interacted openly with Lillian and Hitoshi. He was cocky, but not to a fault. He was confident in himself and what he could do, but not overly so. He worked well with his friends and made sure to cheer them on.
"That's what I like to hear!" Mic shrieked before Aizawa snatched the microphone again, glaring heatedly. Mic seemed to get the message this time around.
"From General Studies, we have Hitoshi Shinso." Aizawa announced with a small smile. "Neito Monoma, from class 1-B, and Lillian, from 1-A."
They crowd roared excitedly despite his naturally bland tone of voice. Chad leaned against the railing, sipping a beer as his sunglasses glinted in the light. Those were his little memesters down there. To think they'd made it this far, fueled by sheer willpower, friendship, and vine references. It was truly a sight to behold.
"Is everybody ready?" Midnight asked as Hitoshi and Neito deposited Lillian at her spot, jogging off to their own. Lillian gave a hesitant nod despite the fact that her Art History teacher was staring at her bloody uniform. Yeah, she still hadn't changed it. Neito and Hitoshi also nodded, grinning the whole time. They'd actually done it. Standing here now, it sort of dawned on them. This was the finals of the Sports Festival. They'd jumped every hurdle. Fought through every obstacle. They were here, finally.
"Begin!" Aizawa announced, and a silence fell upon the arena as they all stepped into the field. Hitoshi pulled his hands from his pockets as they approached the center, Neito cracking his knuckles. Lillian also shook out her hands as they met at the center. Even Endeavor seemed to lean forward as the trio came to a stop at the middle. While the Lillian brat was disrespectful, she also had a very powerful quirk.
The meme three all raised their fists, and...
"Rock, paper, scissors!"
The crowd exploded with a mixture of cheers, laughter, and hysterical shrieking as Lillian and Hitoshi both threw rock, and Neito, scissors. The blonde looked at his own hand with clear betrayal, and Lillian and Hitoshi both winced. They couldn't even begin to hear over the absolute volume of the crowd. Why them playing rock, paper, scissors was all that big a deal, they didn't know.
"I always pick scissors." Neito muttered, glaring at his hand. "Why do I always pick scissors?"
Hitoshi couldn't even hear him, capturing him in a brief hug anyway. Lillian stepped up and gave the blonde one as well. Neito shook off his annoyance with himself and traded it for a smile as he gave his two friends a two finger salute. Without a trace of hesitation, he turned and walked right out of the circle. The crowd reached deafening levels at the realization of what was happening. How the final round was going. There was no fight, but they were fine with that. This was way better.
"Neito Monoma takes third place!" Midnight exclaimed with a wide grin and shining eyes. That only seemed to make the crowd louder.
Hitoshi and Lillian faced each other.
"Rock, paper, scissors!"
Two rocks again. They went again.
"Rock, paper, scissors!"
Two rock again. Lillian rolled her shoulders.
"Rock, paper, scissors!"
Hitoshi had gone paper, and Lillian, rock. The pair grinned and each other, stepping forward and capturing one another in an embrace despite Lillian's bloody appearance. Also with no traces of doubt, Lillian turned and walked over to where Neito was standing with a smile on his face immediately after as though it were no big deal. Most of the crowd was standing now, claps sounding like veins of thunder echoing around the circular field as they hollered. There was no animosity between the three friends in the finals. Just friendly a friendly game that was fair and clearly pre-planned.
"Lillian takes second place!" Midnight raised her fist. "Hitoshi Shinso is the winner!"
Lillian and Neito stepped back onto the field as the purple-haired boy turned to them with tears in his eyes, opening his arms to them readily. They didn't try to speak. They'd have to shout at the top of their lungs to even hope of hearing one another. Instead they all captured one another in a three way embrace, Lillian wiping at her eyes as she laughed. That had just happened! This was happening.
They'd done it. A lot had happened the past month leading up to this moment, but they'd gotten through it and they were here. All three of them. The crowd was going crazy in celebration of their victory as they made way for the exit. Neito had his arm hooked with one of Lillian's, and Hitoshi had his hooked around their other. Aizawa felt his own eyes sting, but it wasn't the usual feeling of dryness causing it. He couldn't help but grin.
The cheers seemed muffled as the three made way for the locker rooms. They only had a little bit of time before the reward ceremony to gather their bearings. Lillian didn't want to go out there bloody again, as it did draw more attention than it normally would. Not that the attention wouldn't be on her anyway. Still, she hurriedly got changed, pulling on a familiar shirt in lieu of her gym top.
It felt unreal, knowing she'd completed the festival. She'd bee so scared leading up to it. The amount of panic attacks Hitoshi and Neito had been tasked with talking her out of was unreal. The self-doubt Hitoshi had struggled with had been hard for Neito and Lillian to combat, and Neito's unsure attitude pertaining to his own usefulness in the group had been something rough to fight and batter away. But they'd done it.
Hitoshi and Neito were waiting for her in hallway, matching shirts on. They were both grinning so widely it looked as though their faces may split.
"We did it." Hitoshi grinned, sounding out of breath. Lillian and Neito couldn't blame him. They felt winded as well.
"Hell yeah we did." Neito all but squealed. Lillian smiled widely, feeling a little like she may cry.
"I think we all deserve first place. I know we agreed to rock, paper, scissors, but..." Hitoshi trailed off, smile turning to something a little softer. "I really want to medal to be all of ours, you know?"
"Then we'll share it." Neito shrugged, patting Hitoshi on the back. "We are a team, right?"
"N-No shit, Sherlock." Lillian grinned. Neito swatted at her with a laugh as they began to shuffle back towards the arena. Vine and meme references were easily traded amongst them, helping to calm their nerves as All Might's voice boomed faintly from the arena. He was the one who'd be presenting the medals. To Lillian, it was like any other day in hero basic training. She'd gotten used to him popping up out of nowhere only to leave less than an hour later. Neito and Hitoshi, however, didn't experience his grandeur nearly as often.
Aizawa found himself standing down on the field with Mic and the other teachers as the three winners he'd trained came out. He immediately tensed when he saw what they were wearing. Familiar shit-eating grins, and matching black T-shirts with a pattern he'd become rather used to seeing over the past month. His cheeks flushed beneath his bandages as the trio happily bounced out to where they were waiting. All Might's laugh bellowed out at the sight of their apparel.
"Oh my god." Nemuri breathed. Mic was all but vibrating as they came to a stop, Hitoshi first, Lillian second, and Neito third. The order in which they'd joined the meme squad, as odd as that was. Hitoshi was the origin, Lillian was the convert, and Neito was the lone wanderer who'd been lost before he was asked about little Timmy.
Aizawa felt an undeniable warmth in his chest as the kids he'd trained all stood proudly, donning their Team Eraserhead shirts with no traces of doubt. They weren't All Might shirts, or UA ones. Not Present Mic, or Midnight. They were wearing Eraserhead shirts. He was proud of them, and they were proud of him right back. No traces of fear lingered on their faces as the press took snapshots of them in their shirts. They weren't impressive shirts, nor were they in the best shape from the hell of the last month. But they wore them anyway, and that made Aizawa's eyes water just a little.
"Matching apparel, I see!" All Might grinned as he draped the Third Place metal around Neito's neck. "I'm very proud of you three. Never have three students, all from different classes, come together to take the top spots! And never has the first place been a student from General studies." The man continued, presenting Lillian with her second place metal. Hitoshi looked ready to burst as All Might came to a stop in front of him.
"You, young man, are going places." All Might said, placing the metal over his head. "If you want into the hero course, you have my support."
"Thank you." Hitoshi managed to choke out as the hulking man stepped back. Exclusive members of the biggest press corporations stepped forward, snapping photos as Neito slung an arm over Hitoshi's shoulder, pulling Lillian along with him. Hitoshi pulled the metal off, offering it to Neito. The two boys grinned as they held it over Lillian's head for the photographers to see. The girl flushed with embarrassment at all the attention, but clear pride as well.
Neito's eyes found Mr. Aizawa's, and he nudged Hitoshi, nodding and saying something nobody could hear over the constant clapping and whistling. Hitoshi and the blonde lowered the medal slightly, the purple-haired boy turning to talk to him with furrowed brows. Lillian turned as well, the trio huddling just a bit as they exchanged words despite the cheering of the masses. Lillian seemed to brighten as the two boys nodded, also grinning. Mic tilted his head curiously as the two boys shoved the first place prize into her hands.
Lillian turned around, shying away from the cameras slightly as she scampered away from the stand. Her two friends trailed after, deflecting the many questions being shot their way as they fought their way to the teachers. Aizawa straightened slightly as Lillian stumbled to a stop right in front of him, glancing behind him to see if maybe she'd been heading elsewhere. Mic looked ready to explode, and Nemuri was filming on her phone.
She was sweating and tired, looking up at him with sparkling blue eyes. The goggles on the front of her shirt matched the ones hanging loosely around his neck, and he felt his heart swell further at the sight of her. She beamed brightly up at him. How she looked at him with such an expression was beyond him. The girl had such a powerful personality hidden beneath the anxiety she towed around with her, and he realized that he'd come to love this kid. Somehow, against everything he thought to be rational and logical, he found himself adoring this brat more than he ever had his other students. The realization caused his breath to leave him was he stared down at her with wide eyes.
It shouldn't be possible, but it was. His hands tightened into fists. He was a sleep-deprived man who looked rather ragged in appearance, but he'd be looking into what it would take him to officially adopt a student later anyway.
Lillian waved him down, her mouth forming words he couldn't hear over the noise. He crouched down somewhat, twitching uncomfortably at all the cameras pointed at him. He expected some sort of question or concern from her. He should have known by the grins on Neito and Hitoshi's faces, and by their shirts, that that wasn't the case. His dark eyes widened as the first place medal was carefully placed over his head, the cool golden pendant thumping against his chest as he stood bolt upright in surprise.
"Th-Thank you, Mr. Aizawa!" Lillian exclaimed just loud enough for him to hear, wrapping him in a hug soon after as tears pricked her eyes. The two teenage boys piled on after. Neito had started crying like a damn baby at some point, though nobody was sure when. Aizawa felt stunned, blinking rapidly as Mic shrieked so loudly it overtook the crowds increased celebration in response to the end of the exams and its results. Fireworks shot off above them as Aizawa pulled his arms from their slings, carefully and hesitantly allowing himself to hug the three kids happily hugging him with a smile on his face. Damn the cameras. They couldn't see his face anyway.
And... maybe he was wearing his Team Eraserhead shirt too.

So a few people felt the need to continuously harass me over the fact that the art on the previous cover didn't belong to me. It had been stated before that it wasn't mine, and this is a fanfiction, mind you. But I don't really like arguing so I slapped something together in the span of five minutes and called it a day. However, I fear this will not due. Hence this contest.
So it's an art contest. (I'll be hosting different contests later that don't involve art later if anyone is interested in that. Comment if you my dudes.) I basically need more cover art to satisfy the burning hunger within me. It needs to be uh... well, Lillian basically.
I'm not sure what the prizes will be! Comment below what you think would make a good prize (that's doable hahdlksahdfsa. But also don't be shy or afraid to suggest something because you think it's too much) and I'll announce whatever the hell it's gonna be when we get there. It'll probably be something writing related if I had to guess, but who knows (not me apparently)((I'm sorry)).
More on the contest. Leggo.
-You're basically drawing Lillian. That's it. That's the contest.
-Post it on Wattpad and tag me
-Come back here to this chapter and comment when you're done with your entry so I know to go look at it
I get so many notifications that I will inevitably miss tags! If you're participating or want to participate, it's important that you come back here so I can see your amazing art! It's super, duper important that you come back here and let me know when it's done. Also pop any questions, comments, or concerns you have out down below. Hopefully people participate so this note isn't just sitting here and I don't feel like a total idiot for even trying hadhhsdfksf
Not sure when the contest will end, but I'll keep you posted. I won't spring it on you. I'll give you a few days notice before the actual uh... due date... thing yeah okay by thank you and I love you----
