Chapter 54

Third person pov

Lillian ate lunch with her friends, and finished out classes just fine. She swore she spotted Mic peeking into the classroom a few times during the moments between classes, but she was probably just imagining it. Mr. Aizawa also kept looking at her. He seemed concerned, but he also had a notepad. Almost as though he were... taking notes on her. He would also pull out his phone and tap away at it furiously with one hand at times. She just hoped he wasn't overworking himself.

Evening training was highlighted by a Taylor Swift playlist Neito had dug from the deepest and darkest depths of Spotify, or maybe hell. To say Aizawa was horrified was an understatement. He'd let out a loud groan the second it started playing, bringing a hand up to massage his temples and muttering something about needing a therapist for himself.

Lillian used the eye drops she'd been gifted sparingly. She didn't want to run out and have to bother Mr. Aizawa about it. A part of her was tempted to just never tell him when she ran out, but they helped so much she didn't think she had the heart not to mention it. Hitoshi insisted that he'd ask if she didn't anyway, and she didn't want him to have to do that.

Mic dropped by after finishing detention with Kaminari. Apparently he'd played the same song, The Wheels On The Bus Go Round And Round, on loop the whole time while forcing him to do hellish English worksheets that even Third Years struggled with. Hitoshi and Neito both looked reasonably disturbed. Lillian just smiled shyly and let her English teacher hug her, her face reddening with embarrassment as he shot off questions about how she was feeling.

Aizawa had chased him off and told them to keep running. Hitoshi talked a lot about his classmates and how they were dicks, and Neito and Lillian provided disgusted sound effects and commentary to let him know they were listening and just as appalled as he was with their atrocious behavior towards him and his quirk.

Lillian had a case of Cranberry Sprite delivered to Kaminari's house, knowing the boy wouldn't be there to get it. She insisted over the phone that they knock on the door until someone answered to get the drinks, and after explaining why, the Uber Eats driver had been happy to comply completely. He even went as far as to insist calling him every time she needed something like this done, and that he'd give her a fifty-percent discount if that's what it took. She was glad to have found a fellow memester. She instructed him to leave a note with the drinks, for Kaminari. He gladly complied.

"See you tomorrow, Mr. Aizawa." Hitoshi raised his hand as a sort of half-wave before letting it drop, taking Lillian's bag from her and beginning after Neito. The blonde was Fortnite dancing by the gate to the Ouran High School Host Club opening, Sakura Kiss, like a fucking idiot. Hitoshi's goal was to either stop him or join him. He'd decide when he got there.

"Lillian." Aizawa called before the girl could dart after her friend. She blinked up at him, looking embarrassed and extremely nervous. "Your training is going to be cut short tomorrow morning. Mic is taking you to talk to Hound Dog. Is that alright?"

Lillian looked even more embarrassed, shuffling her feet. "I-I'm really s-sorry about that, M-Mr. Aizawa. I-I don't know wh-what happened. I-I swear I-I was fine, a-and then I just-"

"Kid, it's fine. It's all okay." He cut her off. "But you did have a panic attack. You... haven't gotten a chance to deal with what you went through. Mic and I are concerned, so we think it's a good idea that you talk to him. At least once. If you don't like it, you don't have to do it again."

Lillian reminded herself that Mr. Aizawa and Mr. Mic were now her legal guardians. It was just... so weird to think about. To realize that her parents had been arrested, and not at her house. That she'd moved in with the Shinso's completely, and even had a bed there. The fresh realization felt like a ton of bricks on her shoulders. She shook it off quickly.

"A-Alright." She agreed. It wasn't her place to complain, and... Mr. Aizawa was probably right. Besides, maybe talking about the nightmares would help make them go away! "Th-Thank you, M-Mr. Aizawa. Th-This must be so s-stressful for y-you..."

Aizawa frowned at her as she sunk into a fresh pit of anxiety. "It's really not that big a deal." He said it simply, if not a little gruffly. She flinched a little as he snapped her out of a fresh train of thought, giving a small smile and nodding. She turned to glance back at her friends for a moment before doing a double take when she realized they were both Fortnite dancing in front of the gate. She could faintly hear Rockstar by Nickelback playing.

"U-Uh..." She stuttered distractedly as she gazed at them. "R-Right, s-sorry d- u-uh, M-Mr. Aizawa. I-I should.... u-uh..." She trailed off again, staring at her friends as the dancing intensified.

"Go ahead, kid." He snorted, shaking his head. Lillian gave another hesitant smile before darting off. Aizawa spotted Mic watching from the bushes and sighed heavily. At least now they could compare notes to find Lillian a good therapist.

Kaminari returned from a hellish detention with Present Mic, who'd seemed passive-aggressively pissed off the whole time for some reason, to see something horrifying. With the lyrics to that dumb song rolling in his head, he was faced with something more terrifying than The Wheels On The Bus Go Round And Round. It was an image that would be forever seared into his mind. He could already see tonight's nightmare forming in his mind. His bag slipped from his shoulder with a thud as he gazed in terror.

"Oh, hey Denki." His father said, sipping her Cranberry Sprite.

"Someone dropped some soda off for you, but said it was for the whole family to share! Isn't that nice?" His mother asked, holding a can of her own. "It's delicious! I wonder where they bought it..."

He broke out into a cold sweat when his little sister entered his line of sight. She didn't just have one can. She had two, both with a straw in them. She poked both straws in her mouth and took a long, loud slurp. He felt tears sting his eyes as his shoulders began to shake. What was this? How was this even happening?

"They sent a note." His dad said. Kaminari hesitantly approached.

The note was folded up tight, and written on simple notebook paper. Subtle, but threatening. He gulped, glancing at his parents. They were preoccupied with their phones. They didn't suspect a thing was amiss, but he knew. He took a deep breath and tried his best to sooth his thudding heart as he carefully unfolded the piece of paper. He bit back a curse.

The Wheels On The Bus Go Round And Round, Kaminari!

-Lots of love, Satan

"Hey, what's that on the back?" His mother tilted her head a little. Kaminari flipped the paper over almost immediately out of reflex, only to drop it with a shriek. He stumbled back with wide eyes. His mother and father raised eyebrows at him, glancing down at the piece of paper in question. His little sister trotted over and lifted it up, flipping it over to read the words so Kaminari could see the horrifying picture on the back.

The dead eyes of a poorly drawn Chungus stared idly at him, and he'd never wanted to cry more.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lillian woke up the next morning to Hitoshi singing. He wasn't bad at singing. Like she, he'd never really had friends, and thus had plenty of time to practice. With a bedhead rivaling his own, she'd rolled out of bed and joined him in his rendition of We Will Rock You. Full with them stomping their feet and clapping. It was a performance of epic performance, to say the least.
Training was a little more intensive than usual, because as Mr. Aizawa had told her, Mic had come to walk to her Hound Dog's office. She was nervous. Who wouldn't be? She'd never had any therapy before. She'd always wondered why her parents didn't ever try and get her someone to talk to about her anxiety, but now it made sense. They'd wanted to stay on the down low. She almost hated that she understood.
Hound Dog was a tall man... dog... Lillian wasn't sure. He was the school's man guidance counselor nonetheless. He had wild blonde hair and a long snout. His mutation reminded her of Gang Orca and Selkie, both of which were more humanoid versions of an animal.
Mic had checked four times if she was okay before finally leaving them alone. Lillian sat tensely in the middle of a couch, staring at her lap intensely as Hound Dog gazed at her. She wished she were as calm as he was. The way he sat showed he was free of nerves. Often times, she found herself wishing she was as collected as Hitoshi, or as flippant as Neito, who had the uncanny ability to brush things off like they'd never happened. Maybe one day she'd have that courage.
"I heard you've been having a ruff time, Pup." He noted. "Eraserhead and Present Mic set this appointment up, didn't they?"
"Y-Yes, sir." She mumbled, glancing up. He gave her a toothy smile. He had very sharp teeth. He looked more like a wolf than a dog in that moment; though, she didn't dare voice such a thing.
"Talking to someone about your problems is never a walk in the park, but I'm not going to hound you about it. I do want to learn a little more about you, if paw-sible." He offered carefully. Lillian felt a shy smile stretch across her face when she realized he had no idea he was using dog puns. How did someone develop something like that in their speech? Was it a part of his quirk?
Lillian blinked. "A-Ah, well u-uh... my quirk i-is Freeze Frame. I-I think... y-you probably know about it..." She trailed off quietly and awkwardly when she realized he not only had her file, but probably watched the news like every other person in Japan.
"That's right! The pup-arazzi haven't been giving you any issues, have they?" He looked genuinely concerned, and it made Lillian's face heat up with embarrassment. She managed to shake her head, lowering her gaze again. Nezu had made a public announcement, as had the police. Any UA students involved in the attack were to be left alone. Period.
"Good. Let someone know if you run into any paw-blems. I'm sure any teacher here would make sure they knew they were barking up the wrong tree." He huffed. "Tell me about yourself, pup. Do you have any friends?"
"H-Hitoshi and N-Neito." She brightened a little bit. "Th-They're great."
"Good, good." Hound Dog was relieved she had someone to keep her company. By the way she'd lit up, she was pretty fond of whoever these two were. It was a comforting thought considering what he'd been told. "What about your parents?"
Lillian hesitated, eyeing him oddly. Her eyes drifted to the file sitting on his desk. Had it not updated? Did nobody tell him? This could be a trick question. He could already know and was just trying to coerce her view on the situation out of her. Would that really be so bad if that was his plan?
"I haven't-ruff- read your file. My main focus is getting to know who you are, and making sure you're comfurtable." He explained. "These papers know have much pawledge anyway. Just basic facts. I want to know you as a pup- person, Lillian. Howl is a bunch of medical infurmation going to-ruff-help with that?"
"A-Ah, well, I-I'm adopted." She said. Her nose scrunched up. "N-No, I'm not. I-I mean, I a-am... s-sort of... n-not..."
Hound Dog looked confused. "Foster care?" He tried.
"A-Ah... w-well, what happened w-was I thought th-they were my real parents, a-and then I learned I was adopted. B-But then I learned right a-after that I wasn't a-adopted, I was kidnapped f-from the hospital m-my real mother abandoned me at." She quietly stuttered out. Hound Dog looked taken aback and horrified. "S-So Mr. Aizawa and M-Mr. Mic are my guardians. B-But I'm staying w-with Hitoshi."
Hound Dog clicked his pen, pulling his clipboard closer. "Keep barking..."
And so Lillian nervously delved into an explanation of her situation. Never once did she mention the USJ. The mere thought of it brought memories flooding back that made her shiver. To distract herself, she explained growing up with a quirkless "family", and told him about how she'd been too afraid to use hers until recently for fear that she'd be rejected. And thus start a series of events that led to her finding out that she was kidnapped.
It wasn't the most detailed, but Hound Dog still snapped his pen out of anger towards her not-parents anyway.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Todoroki pulled Lillian aside when the last class of the day ended, startling her.

"Are you Mr. Aizawa's secret love child?" He asked bluntly, looking her right in the eyes. Outwardly, he expected an immediately denial or rejection. His theory wasn't all that sound, after all. Their quirks weren't as identical as Midoriya and All Might's were, but her appearance was closer to his than not.

They had the same hair color and type, her eyes were drier than usual, and the bags under her eyes made him realize they had similar noses and cheek bones, as well as the general mouth shape. However, he was no expert in the field of physical likeness. He knew from hero training that her quirk gave her dry eye, which she had just started using eye drops like Mr. Aizawa's for, and it was heavily sight based and depended on her blinking.

Lillian got a far away look in her eyes.

"I don't know, am I?"

Todoroki was stunned into stillness. Lillian shrugged as though brushing the idea off, shaking her head and giving a small goodbye before heading off towards the door. The half-and-half boy turned to gaze after her with wide eyes, slowly pulling a notebook from his backpack and a pen from his pocket.

"I knew it."

"Todoroki-kun, are you talking to yourself?" Momo was confused, but the heterochromic boy was too busy writing furiously in his notebook to respond. Was Lillian adopted or fatherless? She had to be to even consider it. His pen darted along faster, and he sunk back into his desk, hunching over his work. The dark-haired girl just gave him one last odd look before hesitantly leaving him alone. Todoroki didn't even notice.
