Chapter 25
Third person pov
Something in Lillian snapped, her fear for her classmates and teacher overwhelming. She'd never felt so endangered before. So... so threatened. She clenched her eyes shut as she screamed out in defiance, something within her exploding out before she could stop it. It seemed to spread out like some sort of shock wave, rippling and covering the area like a blanket of sorts. Everything went silent. Everything went still.
It all froze.
She cracked her eyes open to see the man's hand an inch from her face. Her heart thudded dangerously in her ears as she backed up, her body shaking. Everything had stilled. Tsuyu, Izuku, and even the Nomu. They'd all just stopped. She hadn't been looking at all of them, but they had all fallen under the control of her quirk somehow. Whether it was from sheer panic or survival instinct, she wasn't sure.
She had to act fast.
She yanked Tsuyu away from the frozen man in an instant. She moved a lot like a cardboard cutout would. As in she didn't. At all. Lillian dragged her away, leaning over the edge of the shoreline to grab Izuku's pant leg. She didn't know how long this would last. She didn't feel like she was the one controlling it. Like it was a bomb she'd set out, but she wasn't the one holding the detonator.
She yanked on his pant leg, causing his leg to scoot towards her, and he wrapped her hand around his pant leg. The Nomu had a good grip on him, but Lillian was on lower ground, and the angle made things better. She had to let go of Tsu to pull on the green-haired boy, bracing her feet against the edge of the rocky shore as she pulled for all she was worth. It took a second, but once she got him to slide out a little, the rest was fairly easy. She fell back into the water with the frozen teen.
The effects were the same. She felt herself get undeniably tired, but she still dragged her friends away. Her arms ached due to the little strength she had, but she didn't care. She pulled them through the water and then up onto the shore several feet away, breathing heavily. Between the fact that she had basically no upper body strength, added onto the fact that she was dead tired from using her quirk, she knew she wasn't doing so well.
She kept going anyway. She dragged her friends through the dirt, towards the center of the plaza where their teacher sat. She though she saw Tsuyu beginning to close her eyes. It was very slow and sluggish, but there. It had been less than a minute, Lillian's mind registered. Her eyes darted back to where she'd left the Nomu and villain. They looked like they were moving in extremely slow motion. She sped up.
She pulled Tsu and Izuku closer to Aizawa. She knew that wasn't the safest or best place, but at this rate, hiding was futile. She was too tired to drag them any farther, and she felt far too scared to go anywhere but by their dear teacher. Their dear teacher who was sitting in a puddle of blood bigger than Lillian's entire body. She felt her breath hitch. Was he dead? She couldn't tell.
A little voice in the back of her head told her to go back to the villain. To find a way to knock him out, or even kill him. She didn't get the chance to dart back and try. The blue-haired man stumbled forward and fell into the water, the Nomu's fist closed completely around nothing at all, and the front gates that led out of the USJ blasted open with incredible force. She heard Tsuyu and Izuku take gasping breaths of air.
Lillian's chest heaved dangerously, rising and falling as another wave of exhaustion hit her. All Might had arrived, as had the other teachers, and she wanted to cry. Well, she already was crying, but she wanted to do it more. This time out of relief.
"L-Lillian, you-" Izuku cut himself off, eyes wide. Tsuyu blinked rapidly, disoriented from the sudden change. For them, it was like nothing had changed at all. Lillian tried to calm her heart, and forced herself to stay awake as a very pissed All Might threw his jacket to the side. Lillian blinked blearily, her vision blurring, before something wet hit her hand. She heard a choking noise.
"M-Mr. Aizawa!" Lillian cried out, scrambling to him. He cracked his eyes open to look at her, and opened his mouth to speak, but blood poured out. Lillian felt her heart, for what felt like the hundredth time, stopped as he began to turn blue. Blue. Her mind screamed at her as he gurgled, gazing at her with pain-filled eyes as he failed to breathe. She saw relief in them, but that didn't change the fact that blood was bubbling out of his mouth. Her thoughts centered themselves.
He's choking.
He's dying.
She choked out a sob as she froze him, her entire body shaking violently. She vaguely registered someone picking her up and carrying her. She focused solely on her quirk. She couldn't let him lose his life after all this. Not now that help was here. He'd done it; he'd saved them. He'd stopped Tsu from turning to dust. She couldn't heal him, but she could prolong this long enough for the paramedics to ensure he remained alive.
"Head for the entrance, and take Aizawa with you." All Might didn't look back at them. "I'm not sure how long Lillian can hold him."
Lillian felt her heart slow with the exhaustion and drowsiness that crept up on her, and she felt a jab of pain in her stomach that caused her to wrap her arms around herself. Her entire body was plagued by uncontrollable shivers as she gazed down at her frozen teacher. His eyes were unseeing and lacked pain, and the blood that had been pooling up his throat was frozen. He was stuck in this state for now. Suspended.
"Ribbit." Tsuyu lifted the man the best she could, and Lillian shakily took the legs. Tsuyu was baring the brunt of the weight, but the frog-like girl didn't care. Lillian had just saved her life, and now the girl was fighting to save their sensei's. Her face was twisted with pain, and tears ran down her cheeks as she stumbled to follow, her arms struggling to hold Aizawa's feet. She gazed at the man with such concentration and desperation. Tsuyu had to force herself to stay calm.
"Here!" Izuku took Aizawa from them, and Lillian stumbled back, clutching her stomach as it twisted and spiked. It felt like it was closing in on itself. She pushed vomit down her throat. Her vision blurred, but she followed after Izuku anyway as he began to haul the frozen Aizawa back towards the gates.
"H-Hurry." Lillian gasped out as the pain jabbed at her again. She kept her eyes on Aizawa, never looking away. She was afraid to. "H-He was- he was su-su-suffocating-"
"It's okay, Lillian. We're going to get him help." Tsuyu ensured, and they picked up the pace. Tsuyu supported Lillian as they rushed for the gates. The girl was clutching her stomach, and Tsuyu realized the symptoms she'd mentioned on the boat were getting a whole lot worse. She bit her lip, urging Izuku to go faster. The boy complied, hoisting Aizawa up further and beginning to lightly run the best he could. Tsuyu was practically dragging the poor girl.
"Hey!" Ochako called. "We're all up here!"
"Hey, can you come help us out?!" Tsuyu called. "Lillian's got him frozen!"
"What, why?!" Ochako was already racing down the steps. Her eyes landed on the shaking Lillian, and she gasped.
"H-He's dying." Lillian sputtered out, breathing rapidly. "Choking o-" She winced, letting out a small cry and doubling over. Ochako and Tsu froze. "Choking o-o-on blood."
"I've got him!" Ochako slapped him, and the weight was immediately lifted. Izuku said something about All Might before he was completely racing off like his life depended on it. Lillian swayed a little, blinking rapidly and slapping at her cheeks. She took a shaky breath, turning around, and vomited all over the pavement.
"Let's hurry." Ochako agreed. Tsu nodded silently and tugged at the girl, who was clutching her stomach so hard the frog-girl couldn't imagine how it had to feel. If Lillian really was to the point of vomiting, it meant she was fighting the urge to pass out. If she passed out and Aizawa unfroze... he'd choke on his own blood and succumb to his injuries within seconds.
They passed Aizawa off to Shoji, who looked at Lilian with concern, as did Mina and Sero. Thirteen was being held up by the acid and tape users respectively, and she gasped upon seeing the state Aizawa was in. Tsuyu briefly explained what Lillian was doing to the group. The girl didn't look like she'd be bale to hear them if they tried to talk to her.
Lillian felt like her head was full of cotton as she stared at her frozen teacher, focusing on her quirk. Forcing it to keep going. The knowledge that he would indeed die if she let go was the only thing keeping her awake. The pain in her stomach was now constant, and nearly unbearable. She wanted to fall to her knees, curl up into a ball, and cry for it to stop. But she didn't. She stood, and she stared. She just had to keep it until he could be healed enough. That's all.
"Sorry, everyone! I know we're a bit late, but I got the teachers over here as fast I could." Nezu said from his place on Vlad King's shoulder.
"It's Iida!" Ochako cried out in relief, and Tsuyu hoisted Lillian up a little further as the heroes rushed forward, casting concerned glances at the freckled girl as well as the incapacitated teacher in Shoji's many arms. The girl was simply staring at the man, not blinking. Her body looked ready to crumble.
"Our first priority is to protect the students!" Nezu hopped down.
"Yes, sir!" The teachers didn't hesitate much after that. They all sped forward with anger in their eyes, firing up their quirks for use. The principal watched them all go with a smile, his furry paws on his hips. Snipe stayed by, shooting in various directions. How he could see so far, nobody was really sure.
"Are you alright?" Nezu glanced up at the students, eyeing Lillian. "My, what happened to her?"
"She's using her quirk to keep Mr. Aizawa frozen, ribbit." Tsuyu reported, and the principal paused. "He was going to choke on his own blood, so she had to!"
Lillian's head felt like it was doing cartwheels. It was exhausted, but racing. Her limbs felt heavy. Incredibly heavy. Breathing felt like a chore, and the pain in her stomach was beginning to rise up to her chest. She knew she must be drenched in sweat by now. Tsuyu was pretty much the only thing keeping her standing at this point. It didn't matter. It would all be over as soon as the medical professionals got here. As soon as her teacher wasn't going to immediately choke on his own blood
"Paramedics are on the way, so you don't have to hold out much longer." Nezu assured the shaking girl. Lillian forced a small smile. She turned away coughing into her fist and wheezing. Lillian pulled her hand away shakily, choking out a small sob when she saw blood coating her hand. Ochako and Mina let out gasps of horror, and Tsu and Shoji's eyes widened. Nezu's expression flickered, but Lillian simply turned her gaze back to Aizawa, clutching her stomach with one arm, the other slung over her frog-friend's shoulder.
