Chapter 128

There's a list of what's available on my Patreon at the end of the chapter for those who've been asking!

Third person pov

"Hey, you with the collar. Did I... offend you somehow?" Shoto asked with tired hesitance. Lillian hovered next to him, hoping she looked as threatening as she felt. Her dad was intimidating. Those genes were buried somewhere deep in her, right? Maybe she could make her eyes glow and that would be enough to make this guy go away. He seemed awfully rude and quite terrifying. He'd been shooting Shoto dirty looks since they'd gotten in here. Lillian had half the mind to knee him in the nuts, honestly. Too bad she had social anxiety. The moment she got over that, it was over for these plebs.

The giant tornado guy turned and stared at her friend with no small amount of venom. Not very cash money of him. What was his problem? Was he jealous? If so, he could go take a seat and keep his thoughts to himself. Shoto was going through it. All of 1-A was, actually! They didn't need this guy fucking up their already fragile mentalities with... whatever was going on here. Lillian wasn't sure she wanted to ask. Kaminari was hovering back too, glancing between Shoto, Lillian, and the giant wind man as well. The tension in the air was palpable. Why did they have to deal with this in the middle of an extremely stressful test? Could this guy not save it for later?

On the long, long list of things they didn't have time for, this was at the top. Shoto had been polite. Asked kindly if he'd somehow managed to offend this ape! He hadn't been crude or snide in the way he said it. Lillian was there. Her ears were in perfect working order, and her judgement was only slightly clouded by panic at the moment. She knew Shoto well enough to know he wasn't upset-- just confused. Rightfully so! This guy was looking at the half-and-half teen like he'd accidentally stepped on his hamster and then tried replacing it with one from PetSmart that looked vaguely similar, but not similar enough to fool him. It wasn't a good look for him.

"Oh, I'm sorry. Did I hurt your feelings?" The giant guy said in a cold, dangerous tone that was clearly meant to deal as much emotional damage as possible. Shoto froze at the unexpected remark, and Lillian's jaw dropped at the sheer amount of audacity being exuded. And in her own home! "Well the thing is, son of Endeavor, I just can't help but--"

Um, sorry. Wait a second. Put the truck in reverse and roll back. Crank down that window. What had this guy just said? No, actually. Really and truly. Were Lillian's ears truly fooling her? Was she, perhaps, hallucinating? Maybe those dumplings she'd eaten earlier had something in them. Perhaps Momo was experiencing the same thing. She'd eaten them too. No, no-- no amount of food poisoning could cause this sheer amount of bullshit. There was simply no way. Lillian felt stunned. The same emotion one might experience after being ambushed by a hoard of seagull who worked together to steal your entire burger and the fries that came with it.

Tornado boy didn't get a chance to finish whatever hurtful thing he was going to blurt out to her friend, who looked stunned and like he might cry. Of all the things to bring up, why Endeavor? That should've been behind them seeing as he was literally in jail. Apparently not, but whatever. If anything could drop Lillian's croissant, it was the ex-flame hero. She swooped forward in a way that would make Hawks proud, approaching like a bird of prey, ready to rip this guy's throat out with her teeth if she had to. She could hear Katsuki's palms popping. She was glad for the backup. All she needed was an epic soundtrack to complete the moment.

Inasa let out an odd sort of noise as Lillian's heel slammed into the top of his foot, her hand shooting up and grabbing his fluffy collar and yanking him out with more strength than she probably should've possessed. His wide, dark eyes met her glowing red ones. Her hair drifted up around her, swaying like angry snakes in the air. Kaminari let out a low whistle, taking out his phone to he could send photos to Hitoshi. Katsuki looked all too satisfied, slapping Shoto on the back in his own, comforting way. The boy still seemed stunned. By the Endeavor comment or by Lillian's sudden turn to violence, who knew. With all that they'd been through, Lillian didn't have the luxury to sit around and beat around the bush.

"Who the fuck do you think you are? You don't know jack shit about Shoto! What makes you think you get to come in here and be a dick for no reason? Do you have a permit? Did you even ask permission first?" Lillian hissed out. The wind guy's expression turned from shock to confusion. He mouthed the word 'permit?' to himself. "That's what I fucking thought. Feel free to hate on Endeavor. Hell, join the club! We meet once a month and you get a free T-shirt! But you leave Shoto the hell alone. I don't care what Endeavor did to you. I don't care if Shoto did something to you! If you want to be mad at Shoto, keep his shit ass father out of it. Shoto has been through too much to take criticism and insult from some nobody who thought being an asshat at a formal, kind of super stressful event was a good idea."

Lillian said this all without taking a breath, releasing Inasa and shoving him back slightly. It took everything in her not to throat punch him, her red eyes boring absolute holes through his head. Freezing him and chucking him through a wall would definitely get her disqualified. Lillian did the 'I'm watching you' motion with two of her fingers, pointing them at her eyes and then thrusting them at him. Inasa had the good sense to jump a little bit, looking like he'd just been hazed. Good. Lillian wouldn't go easily next time. Or maybe she would. Was she hyperventilating? Not yet. Maybe. Okay, maybe a little, but she was still trying to look cool so she had to hold the panic in.

She turned back and trotted over to Shoto, locks of hair dropping like soggy noodles as she wrapped him in a comforting hug. Half for herself and half for him, seeing as that encounter had taken several years off her lifespan. He returned it, averting his eyes from where Inasa still stood. Bakugo patted the girl on the back, sending a glare at Inasa. The taller boy had a feeling he'd just made quite a few more enemies than originally planned. He watched the group of friends comfort the boy he'd been quite dead set on hating. He'd obviously heard news of Endeavor's arrest. One of the charges had been domestic abuse. And if that was his son... well... oh, shit.

It wasn't long before this room, like the last one, was peeling open to expose them to the open field once more. Just how much money did these people have? Lillian squinted, waving at her dad and Hitoshi when she spotted their small forms. She thought she maybe saw Hitoshi wave back. She wasn't sure, really. Fuck the police. Not that the police had anything to do with this. That was just the energy Lillian was feeling right now. Her encounter with that Tornado guy had her heart racing more than it had been before. So much for calming down. Now she was all jittery. Like a lizard who'd just chugged three Redbulls.

"I guess this shit is about to get real." Katsuki noted, grinning. Lillian nodded.

"As though it wasn't real before." Lillian noted. "Hopefully we all pass. Though I'd be okay with failing if I got to toss that tornado guy across the field. I wonder if I'd get in trouble for drop kicking him if I said it was an accident."

"We could throw lightning at him and say our hands slipped." Kaminari suggested, sparks dancing around his fingers. Shoto gave them all a harsh side-eye. Lillian ignored the expression with ease. If Neito were here, he'd have ripped that guy a whole new one. She had to do him proud! Hitoshi, too! She wasn't sure how Hitoshi would've reacted. Maybe started an anti-tornado guy reddit thread? Perhaps a fundraiser to put him down. He was a wild card. Maybe he'd threateningly build a bed at him. That also seemed like something he'd do.

Before any of them could plot Tornado Gorilla's inevitable demise, Mera's tired voice echoed out over the intercom system. Roads were damaged, delaying first responders. The heroes in the area needed to lead the rescue efforts until said first responders could get in. They were tasked with saving as many people as humanely possible. Help the injured, move rubble as needed to get to people-- etc, etc. The whole rundown. It made Lillian realize that they were pretty much just LARPing. This was literally live action roleplay. A little more serious than the usual, sure, but it was all pretend at its basis. Thinking of it that way made Lillian feel slightly better.

Katsuki was excited. Their little group made a little bit of a plan. Middle school him never would've dreamed of working in a group with others. He was different now, he felt. Lillian looked at him with earnest trust. They were friends. Half-and-half, whom he'd originally hated a fair amount, nodded to him. Even dunce face seemed closer than he had been before he'd fallen into Lillian's orbit. His hesitance was gone, and he patted Katsuki on the shoulder in an unrestrained way. Wished him good luck, even though Katsuki didn't need it in the least. He'd never admit that it was kind of nice. He liked being a part of something. He had realized a while back that power and strength wasn't everything. Rank didn't make the hero. Endeavor was proof.

Everyone rushed out in a massive stampede. The announcer had never actually said how they'd be scored for points. Very concerning. That was definitely one unknown variable that Lillian wasn't a fan of. It was whatever. Kaminari paired off with Shoto just as they'd spoken of before and she hopped on Katsuki's back, allowing him to blast them past the crowd in order to get to the 'dying civilians' faster. He cackled as they went, Lillian holding onto him like a human backpack. They didn't say they couldn't work together, right? In fact, it would be better to work together.

"I think my ears just popped!" Lillian called over the rush of air. "I feel like a bug about to smack into a windshield!"

Katsuki simply cackled at her. She'd take that as an agreement on his part. Lillian wondered what type of bug she'd be. Some kind of beetle, she presumed. Maybe one of those ones that could pop their backs to flip themselves back upright.

There was a silent agreement that Lillian would do most of the talking. There had to be points taken off if you said the wrong thing, right? That was one thing she'd remembered from Present Mic's internship. He'd gone over what to say and do in all sorts of situations. It was pretty much a given that you had to keep a level head. Keeping the person you were saving calm, cool, and collected was essential. That meant not getting pissed and cursing at them for taking so long. Thus, she instructed Katsuki to simply smile or keep it to himself. He'd flipped her off for that, but he hadn't said no. Bonus points for team Lillian on that one.

The first person was a kid. Well, they looked like a kid, and were pretending to be one. Lillian pushed the fact that they were probably at least fifteen years older than her to the back of her mind and put on her best smile. She asked him if he was okay and where he was hurt, and assured him he was going to be okay. He blubbered something about his grandfather? She really had no idea, honestly. He just waved at the space behind him, so Lillian froze the rubble so Katsuki could dive into it with vigorous ferocity. She continued to reassure the kid, patching him up a bit with the first aid kit. She would once again be thanking Jesus himself for her new utility belt. Amen.

All Lillian really had to do was smile and pretend she was working in customer service. Detach herself from her panic and pretend that everything was fine. She imagined that she was sitting in Mic's studio, and that all the people she was talking to were people on the show. She didn't freeze anyone without their explicit permission, wondering if she should make business cards that summarized her quirk so she didn't have to keep repeating herself. Maybe that was too unprofessional and rude. Lillian was seeing the appeal of being an underground hero. Her dad was a smart one. Why had Lillian had to go make a name for herself with Mic? Rookie mistake. One she wouldn't be able to live down if the one hundred fifty-seven fan pages dedicated to her on Instagram were anything to go off of. Neito had ranked them all based on content.

A first aid section was declared, as well as an evacuation one. Lillian found herself helping to move rubble more than she helped actual victims, honestly. Katsuki's quirk was a little too destructive to be of use either. However, he had a natural upper body strength due to the recoil his power brought that made it easy for him to carry people. His gauntlets were notably clunky as they worked, though. She could practically see him making a mental note to look into getting them shrunk the more he worked. He kept his mouth shut for the most part, just as Lillian had expertly advised.

"Hey, is that Joe?" Lillian asked, her tone laced with confusion as Katsuki helped her pull a giant slab of wall off a crippled guy. She hoped he wasn't super attached to his wheelchair. It was down a wheel. Probably a prop. Lillian was simply trying to immerse herself in the experience.

"Who the fuck is Joe?" Katsuki spat out, using an explosion to send the chunk of wall flying out of the arena. Lillian unfroze it at the last second, sending it sailing over the side of the entire ring. Hopefully it didn't hit someone's car. If anyone asked, it wasn't them. Lillian didn't have any car insurance. Maybe she could be claimed under her dad's? But this was more property destruction, not a car crash. What kind of insurance did she need for that? No matter. Katsuki had asked a pertinent question.

"Joe mama." Lillian whispered. His head whipped towards her, eyes blazing. She jumped down to help the paraplegic stuck in the hole before her blonde companion could punt her into the sun. His curses followed her down as she smiled brightly at the man, asking where he was feeling his pain, to rate it on a scale of 1-10, and then systematically telling him it would all be fine. He nodded along with her, glancing occasionally at her brash partner. Lillian subtly flipped the blonde off. It didn't really help the situation. Luckily, the cripple either didn't notice or didn't care.

Things were going well. There were a few minor conflicts between schools, but nothing serious. The only real sign of something going on was when Lillian looked up at the sound of screaming and saw Kaminari flying across the sky, spinning through the air like a starfish. Her lips parted in surprise, squinting as he shrieked. Katsuki came up next to her, an elderly woman sitting in his arms. She too broke character for a moment, her sobs halting as Shoto's ice raced across the field in a desperate attempt to catch Kaminari in time. It was all very odd, and very concerning. This was only actuated when the ground began to shake soon after, throwing off Lillian's balance and almost causing her to tip backwards and lose her entire fucking life.

Ochako caught her before she could completely tumble, hand pushing her up reassuringly using only four fingers. They all watched in mute horror as Shoto leapt and managed to grab Kaminari by the legs, both of them plummeting soon after. The shaking caused the ice bridge Shoto had been riding on to crack and start to fall. Tornado Gorilla proved to be a saving grace in assuring the ice didn't fall on anyone. Lillian had to give him props for that one, even if she still wanted to gouge his eyes out with a pair of cast iron sporks.

"Is that supposed to happen?" Ochako asked. Lillian shrugged vaguely. Distantly, someone screamed. The sound of shouting became pretty clear. Lillian stood on her toes, trying to figure out just what was going on. Katsuki sighed, looking down distastefully at the actor in his arms. Putting them down randomly wasn't going to be acceptable but he didn't really want to hold them either. They smelled like... well, like an old person. Lillian looked ready to run in the direction of the screaming too, and he wasn't going to let her dumbass do that by herself.

"I... guess so? They haven't stopped the tests yet." Lillian noted. She turned to Ochako. The girl was with Sero and Momo. They all stared. Lillian stared back. She cleared her throat a bit. What did she say? Was there an appropriate thing to say right now? Nobody seemed to know how to react. It was kind of stifling. "Should we... go over there?"

"Excellent idea." Momo decided, cutting through the awkward tension. She punctuated her answer with a smile.

"Yeah, totally!" Sero agreed. He stepped up further. "Let's head over, guys! We'll show them what UA is made o-"

A rock flew from... somewhere. They watched as it slammed into Sero's face visor, sending him absolutely flying down the side of the ruined building they were on. Lillian gawked after him, watching him fall in ways no one should be able to fall. Her gaze raised, her eyes connecting with Shoto's mismatched ones. He had climbed up from god knows where, Kaminari with his arm slung over his shoulder. The half-and-half boy was coated in a fine layer of dust, looking somewhat distressed. Kaminari gave a thumbs up, his grin dropping when he saw Sero rolling towards them. Was the tape user knocked out? He wasn't screaming.

Katsuki passed the actor in his arms to Ochako. The girl took the victim without even looking away from where Sero had fallen, brows furrowed with alarm. Katsuki grabbed Lillian's arm, dragging her towards the screaming. This was a them type of situation. If villains had entered the arena, Lillian and Katsuki would absolutely fucking kill it. He knew it. This was going to help them pass. Icyhot and Dunce Face needed to hurry the fuck up and get over here too. This was going to be the breaking point for them, he was sure. They had to get their licenses. The Yakuza wouldn't know what hit them.

"This isn't going to be fun." Lillian decided, finally able to rip her eyes from Sero and turn to face Katsuki. He glanced back at her, grinning in a way that made her feel like he was about to launch them into the belly of the beast.

Katsuki wondered if they'd be able to work together like this as pro heroes. He'd always thought he'd be a solo act. Someone so great and so powerful that he didn't need a sidekick or another hero by his side. Working with Lillian was invigorating though, and there were so many more people they could save side by side. Their quirks were contrasting in the best way. The idea of not pairing off with her in the future seemed foreign and odd. Not having her around made him feel sour. Maybe that's because he had separation anxiety he refused to address or maybe it was something else. Either way, their fights together were always memorable.

"Says you." Bakugo bit back, but not rudely. "Come on, freckles. It'll be badass! Like the physical exam. We killed that shit."

Lillian considered it. And then they reached the top of the mound of debris they'd been climbing up, revealing the chaos unfolding on the field. Gang Orca had apparently been employed to help out, several 'minions' of his spread out and attacking without mercy. What was even worse was that they were actually starting to push back against the crowd of hero students. Lillian took the sight in, reminded distinctly of the many civilians who'd come to help fight during Kamino ward. The sight was truly impressive. She turned to Katsuki. He was already looking at her, hopeful and grinning. She sighed.

Badass. She could be a badass. Katsuki Bakugo was a certified badass, and he had hope for her. He actually wanted to team up with her. She never would've thought this would happen at the beginning of the year. She'd been pretty convinced back then that she'd find a way to flunk out and be hated by everyone who she breathed in the direction of. Very depressing on her part. Katsuki was... well, she trusted him. And they were sort of a badass team. Perfectly defensive and offensive in their own rights. They could handle this.

"Alright." Lillian gave him a smile back, turning to the scene. She raised a hand up to block out some of the other contestants so they didn't get caught in her gaze. Rolling her shoulders and bracing for the stomach pain, Lillian blinked.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chad made a crude splint out of literal garbage. Toshinori had never seen anything quite like it, and he'd bore witness to quite a few things during his years as a hero. Chad didn't so much as flinch at the pain, wrapping himself up with trash easily. The skin hadn't broken anywhere which apparently made using materials out of a dumpster okay. Infection risks were down, Toshinori supposed. He still didn't know how to feel about it. He didn't really get to give any input. There was no time to get over his shock. One moment Chad was head first in a dumpster and the next his ankle was already neatly set into place. Toshinori was honestly just glad it wasn't flapping around like a limp noodle anymore. The glowstick sounds it was making had been making him feel sick.
Let it be said that All Might in no way condoned stealing, by the way. Carjacking especially was something he in no way, shape, or form supported. Had you asked him just yesterday to steal a car he would've gasped in sheer horror at the idea! It was appalling! The Number One hero illegally breaking into someone's vehicle and taking it for a spin? He would never! What he would be doing, however, was standing off to the side and watching someone else do it without giving much more than a very weak protest. They were being hunted by the mafia. Desperate times, desperate measures. Toshinori would compensate the owner of this vehicle greatly.
It was a dingy little car. Not too old but far from new. It was the type that would blend in, the windows tinted almost too dark to be acceptable and the paint scuffed up on the edges. It was odd to watch Chad walk up to it on his hands and break in whilst being upside down. Toshinori almost couldn't believe how easily he'd balanced on one hand while picking the door's lock. This model apparently didn't have a working car alarm. Just a blinking red light on the dash that would discourage thieves like them. The light wasn't connected to anything, however. Chad had reassured him that it would all be fine.
"Are you sure this is the best course of action, Young Chad?" All Might asked uncertainly. Because yes, he was allowed to be at least a little unsure about their sudden term to crime. He stood for justice! Never would he think to drop to such lows. Alas, here he was. Chad was truly a young man of many talents. All Might wondered if there was anything the man couldn't do. It seemed that he had a solution for every situation. He certainly went into things headfirst and with optimism. Very inspiring qualities.
"Of course, bro. We've got to skedaddle if we don't want to get machinegunned in the ass." Chad said in a sincere tone that stood out starkly against his crude words. Toshinori simply nodded, glancing around. What if they were caught? What did they say? They were in no position to run away or fight. He supposed Chad could active One For All, but would he really have a right to if the owner of this car did come out and catch them? They were stealing their mode of transportation, after all. Toshinori felt horribly guilty. He'd never get over this. Him, stealing a car! Technically he was just an accessory to the crime, but it still stood. "Oh, shit. I got it!"
Sure enough, the door popped open with ease. Toshinori watched with wide eyes as Chad deposited himself in the car upside-down, somehow managing to bend weird so he landed in the driver's seat butt-first. Chad seemed not even slightly perturbed as he dismantled a part of the car to access the wires beneath the steering wheel. Toshinori didn't know enough about cars to know what was happening. He barely knew how to drive himself, honestly. He'd never much needed to. Perhaps it would be worth it to learn now that he couldn't clear entire cities with a single running leap. His hero form had been of great convenience.
Chad messed around and fiddled for a bit. Toshinori felt horribly exposed, and a bit like he might be dying on the inside as the younger blonde worked. He wished they had time to access a phone to let Tsukauchi and the others know that they were okay. Then the police force could track their location and launch an extraction. Toshinori understood why that wasn't an option right now. The Yakuza were dangerous and had to be getting awfully close by now. They were essentially defenseless. Chad could probably put up a good fight, but they'd surely be overwhelmed in no time flat.
"Booyah, bitches." Chad sat up as the car started, a grin on his face. He still had the oversized sunglasses from the truck on. Toshinori couldn't help but smile back. "Let's blow this popsicle stand."
A pair of black SUV's drifted into the parking lot right after Chad spoke. That was more than enough to get Toshinori moving.
It doesn't take him long to find out that this 'dog' is actually a little boy. One with abilities he can't erase. Knowing the child will be executed if Aizawa turns him in, he does the only thing he can think of. He raises him.
-Avalon: Three chapters, random drafts
Aizawa experiences love at first sight when a white-haired woman heals him after the USJ. Unable to forget about her, he's shocked to find she's coming to UA to become a teacher. He can't say he's complaining.
Tier 3:
-More about decision making and requesting than content. You can honestly request as many one shots as you want and I'm probably not going to complain, though I probably won't be starting any series with it either unless you've been there a while (:. Brainstorming, throwing around ideas, and requesting is especially encouraged! Some of the more important polls I have are for this tier and up.
-You can also freely request any spoilers you want
Oh! I also send postcards to people if they want them. Am I the best at art? Absolutely not, but some people have enjoyed it, and I've gotten some really cool penpals after it (:
-Heroes For Hearts: Chapter 8 (ongoing, sort of on hold unless someone wants it continued)
Aizawa gets paired with a random foster kid in a program that forces him to exchange emails with them. Paired with a shy boy with a volatile quirk, he finds himself becoming unexpectedly attached.
-Enamored Prologue-- draft that I would definitely continue if you asked *Squints and bites lip*
Shoto Todoroki is head over heels for his classmate. He becomes mildly obsessed and can't figure out what to do about that fact. Not knowing how to deal with his crush, he sort of ends up stalking him.
Tier 4:
-This tier is less about content and more about the abilities it provides!
You are allowed to request series of one shots be made (or rather long ones), as well as request one shots with your personal OCs in them (Harper in Naruto and Fostered are examples of series made, and a lot of the one shots you see were requested by these amazingly creative individuals) The massive, 50k ish idk word crossover one shot was requested from this tier I believe, if any of you read it! These individuals have also given me altering story suggestions (i.e. killing people), so you can thank them for some of that!
Please keep in mind I am far less willing to make one shot series around OCs that don't belong to be, but I am not completely opposed so long as the character fucking slaps and isn't so detailed that I feel like I'm stuck in a Chinese finger trap
Coming soon to Patreon:
-Demon Slayer Content
-Chad-- Early Access
-The official Vlad Dictionary (so far, anyway)
-A reworking of the story "Sorry", which has been on hold way, way too long
