023 | a bird eating chicken

she was half human...half universe

"ARE YOU A CANNIBAL?"

Serena sat on the sofa with Dabi and Hawks, her petite frame in between the two. She was currently in a white top and grey sweatpants, her pyjamas for the night. She held a PlayStation remote in her hands, eyes glued to the tv as she easily killed the characters in the game.

Dabi sat on her left, leaning against the side, his elbow on the armrest and a dark blue remote controller in his hand as he stared at his part of the screen.

Hawks, who sat on the right, had a bucket of fried chicken in his lap Dabi and Serena ordered a pizza for themselves while the blonde got a bucket. Hawks' enormous wings extended along the back of the couch, wrapping themselves around Serena, who didn't mind, and Dabi, who was already used to it. It was an unconscious act, something he wasn't aware of. Hawks wasn't aware that he was being possessive over them, that this was his way of saying that they belonged to him and only him.

"Eating fried chicken and all," she added, noticing how Hawks' wings tensed up as he glanced down at the chicken he was about to devour.

Dabi snickered, tearing his gaze away from the tv. He watched his boyfriend freeze at the exposed revelation. Amusement shone vividly amongst his features. "Well, are you?"

The two snickered as the blonde began to cry at the realisation that because he was eating a bird and he was also technically a bird, he was indeed a cannibal. Serena shot another guy in the game before shuffling closer to Hawks, moving her hand to his face and wiping away the tears.

Hawks, who had placed his bucket down, grabbed the girl's waist, pulling her into his lap. "That wasn't nice," he mumbled, pouting once he heard Serena laugh louder.

"We're just teasing," she said, biting back a smile. Hawks huffed, pulling her closer to his chest, which Serena didn't mind; in fact, she was very comfortable in being in the blonde's arms. She continued playing the game against Dabi, easily beating the man who proclaimed himself to be the best.

"H-how?" he questioned, eyes and mouth wide in shock.

Serena smirked, winking at him.

"It's a secret."

They played the game for another few rounds, Serena winning every time. Eventually, they put on a movie, and the three cuddled up together. Serena was still in Hawks' hold, the blonde sitting sideways on the couch along with the girl. Dabi laid in between her legs, his head on her chest after she had pulled him down. She didn't want him feeling left out. For some reason, Serena felt carefree around the two. She knew they were attracted to her; it was so blatantly obvious. The longing stares, the lingering touches, the subtle flirting they were all over her. And Serena felt internally warm because of it.

Serena ran her fingers through his hair, liking the soft texture of it. Dabi almost purred at the action, his eyes shutting as relaxation flowed through his body. All the stress left his body, his mind settling down, the negative thoughts dissipating when he was around his boyfriend and the blue-haired girl. Hawks, seeing the content look on Dabi's face, smiled softly. He knew that the scarred male was always tense, most likely because of his current occupation. It's why the blonde always did his best to make things comfortable at home. Dabi rarely found himself content outside. It was only when he was in the comfort of his own apartment that he was alright, allowing himself to relax cause he no longer needed to look over his shoulder. It was an area of peace and tranquility for all three of them.

Until the sound of a phone ringing went off.

Dabi groaned. He recognised the sound coming from his own phone. He got up from the couch, walking over to answer it and then walking away so the two watching the movie couldn't hear him. Serena didn't zone in on his phone call, nor did Hawks. They both respected his privacy, though the latter already had a feeling of what it was about.

"I've got to go," announced Dabi as he returned back to the living room.

Hawks pouted.

"Now? This our first day with Serena," he whined, pulling a puppy face to his boyfriend. Dabi chuckled, already able to resist Hawks' facial expression. He grabbed the jacket that laid on the chair next to the couch, slipping it on.

He made his way to the back of the couch, pressing a kiss to Hawks' head and another to Serena's, taking her by surprise. "I'll try to come back quickly," he promised before making his way out of the apartment.

Serena's stare lingered on the door he just left, a bad feeling churning within her stomach. "He's going to do something bad, right?" Hawks sighed, nodding. He wasn't going to lie to the girl; she was obviously smarter than she let on. "Should we not stop it?"

"What can we do?" he asked, pulling the blue-haired girl closer to his chest. He adored how perfect she was. It was like he found the final piece to his puzzle. "Anything we do will be in vain. He won't stop. I'm trying to deter him, but I know that, at the end of the day, Dabi will always remain a villain."

Serena nodded. She didn't say anything more, knowing that Hawks was sensitive about Dabi being a villain and him being a hero. She could hear the pained tone that laced his voice. Serena just knew that it hurt him that his lover was a villain, a person who injured others, someone that went against every belief Hawks held.

But the winged blonde loved Dabi a lot. He wasn't willing to let him go. Not now, not ever. Nor was he going to let go of Serena. He wanted her just as much as he wanted Dabi.

And Hawks always got what he wanted.

"Let's go," he said abruptly, breaking the silence that comfortably enveloped them in its embrace.

"Where?" she questioned as the two of them got up. Hawks didn't answer her; instead, he threw her one of his jackets, telling her to put it on as they made their way to the balcony. He quickly took her into his hold, carrying her in a bridal position before spreading his wings.

"Hold on tight," he advised before he took off into the sky, the bluenette gasping, throwing her arms around his neck and holding onto him securely. She pushed her head into his neck, eyes shut as the feeling of the rush of wind alarmed her. Hawks chuckled, his grip tightening. "Open your eyes."

Serena listened, slowly turning her head and gasping at the sight she saw. The faint lingering lilac sky fading into the shadow. As if it was a routine, the shimmering sparkles of the stars brilliantly silhouetted into the darkness. A trembling gush of wind inaudibly drifted across the skyline, passing by the duo that flew the sky. Serena glanced down, the blinding city lights gradually subsided ever so subtly, filling the shadow-emitted sky with a pleasant silence.

"The sky is an amazing place," Hawks started, glancing down at the heavenly being securely held in his arms. "And looking at you made me realise that you're missing out."

Serena smiled, pressing herself closer to the male, feeling tranquillity wash over her. She continued to look at the scenery, choosing to look over his shoulders instead as they flew through their air, Hawks' wings flapping smoothly.

The blonde remembered the first time he met Serena. They were only just kids. He had a feeling she didn't remember it; in fact, it seemed like she barely remembered her past most likely because she focused more on her studies and her quirks, understanding and developing them. Serena was only around seven at that time, he recalled. Hawks had escaped from his training, running away from the facility. He didn't like how they were forcing him to train hard every day. He wanted to have time for himself, to enjoy his life and his childhood.

Hawks remembered running to the park after he refused to fly in his training. He sat on one of the benches, his knees pulled to his chest, and a sad expression donning his face. Serena, who was already training there, spotted him. She stopped what she was doing and walked over to him, something within her urged her to comfort the teenager who looked to be around fourteen.

"Is everything alright?" she asked quietly, trying not to scare him away. When the boy didn't answer, Serena sighed and plopped down beside him, watching as he pulled his knees closer to his chest.

"Why are you sitting with me?" he mumbled, his chin lying in the space between his knees.

"Because you look lonely," she answered, looking at the scene before them. "And I know what it's like to be lonely. It's not a nice feeling," she remarked casually, not really caring for the words that came out of her mouth. Hawks liked how laid back she was, and if it weren't for his training to pay attention to detail, he would have thought that she lived a happy, peaceful life. But Hawks could see the suffering and pain that laid in her eyes. He knew that she had suffered.

He knew that she was a warrior.

It was why he opened up to her after she asked again, offering herself as a person he could rant too. Serena didn't speak or interrupt as he spoke; instead, she took it all in and listened. It was something new to him. He never had anyone to open up too.

Hawks remembered that she gave him some good advice, but he forgot those. There was only one thing that he remembered, one thing that stuck to him, always at the back of his mind.

"What good are wings without the courage to fly?"

Hawks knew from then that she was special and seeing her after all these years, he knew that she was the one for him including Dabi. He didn't realise it was her when they encountered each other a month ago. He hadn't realised it until he remembered the eyes of the seven-year-old girl that helped bring back his drive to save people, not really aiming for number one.

"Are you alright?" Serena's angelic voice broke through his train of thoughts, the voice sending him into pure bliss.

Hawks nodded. "Yeah. I'm alright."

Serena didn't press on the matter. She turned to nuzzle her head into his neck, pressing a light kiss to it, taking the winged hero by surprise. His head snapped down to hers, and he watched as a content smile lazily pulled at her lips. "I'm here if you need to talk."

Hawks felt a blazing warmth course through his body, something he only felt with Dabi. An amiable, loving expression washed over his features, and he returned the grin.

They flew around for a while, the blue-haired girl laughing happily every time Hawks dove down. He liked the way her arms tightened around him, the way she pressed herself closer to him. He felt like a protector, and he liked the feeling. With Dabi, he was more submissive, but he knew that with Serena, he'd have someone to dominate over.

When they returned back to the apartment, after many hours, they realised that Dabi still hadn't arrived back yet. Serena bit her lip, not liking the feeling stirring in her stomach. She just knew that Dabi was out causing mayhem.

"I'll sleep on the couch," Serena said once she exited the bathroom, completing her night routine. She returned her large clutch that was filled with her toothbrush, toothpaste and other necessities, to her duffle bag, zipping it up completely.

"Nope. You're sleeping in our bed," Hawks said, directing her to the only bedroom in the apartment.

"Why? The couch is comfortable anyway." Hawks ignored her and pushed her onto the bed, moving in right after her. Serena huffed but didn't make a move to go, knowing that Hawks would just drag her back. She slipped under the covers, inhaling their scent deeply. It was relaxing. Serena found herself slowly being lulled to sleep by the comfort of their bed and their scent, but she snapped out of it when she heard the door open.

"That must be Dabi," mused Hawks, who was scrolling through his phone on the bed, wearing only his sweatpants. He removed his shirt after he got in, not liking how it constricted his movements a lot. He preferred to be shirtless, to have his wings move around freely, albeit they always did, but it used to be more of an excuse to show off his abs to Dabi at the start of their relationship. Now it was something he just did.

Dabi walked straight into the bathroom, mumbling he'd be out in a minute. Serena sat up in the bed, using her elbows. She rubbed her eyes as she yawned, exhaustion washing over her.

"You know you don't have to wait for him. You can sleep now," Hawks told her, rubbing her arm soothingly. Serena nodded and turned on her side, facing away from him. She pulled the covers up, instinctively curling up into more of a fetus shaped position. Dabi walked out in nothing but his sweatpants, not caring that his marks were exposed to the girl he had fallen for. Hawks grinned when he saw him, extending out his arms.

"Get your crusty ass over here," he said, catching Serena chuckle faintly from underneath the covers. Her awareness surprised them. Even though she was half asleep, she still picked up on her surroundings.

"I'd rather not," Dabi said as he slipped into the spot on the other side of Serena, the side she was currently facing, though her eyes were not open.

Hawks shrugged.

"Your loss then."

His boyfriend's rejection didn't hurt him. His words were always different than his actions. Dabi was practically a tsundere.

Hawks put his phone to the side and slipped deeper under the covers, wrapping his arms around the sleepy Serena and pulling her closer to his chest. The bluenette could feel his bare chest, and if it weren't for the fact that she could barely keep her eyes open, she would've blushed madly.

"What are you doing?" she asked tiredly. Hawks grinned, pulling her closer.

"What do you think? We're gonna cuddle!" The excitement laced in his voice had a small smile quirking at her lips, including Dabi's. The male scooted closer to Serena, wrapping his own arms around her and Serena also realised that he was shirtless too. But that wasn't what got her attention. It was the warmth he gave off.

Immediately, Serena snuggled up to him, mumbling something about him going to become her human heater. Dabi chuckled and pulled her closer, one of his hand lacing itself with Hawks', who didn't mind at all.

And that night, the three all slept with blissful smiles on their faces.
