001 | best dad

the princess saves herself in this one

THE SOUND OF AN ALAMRCLOCK woke up the sleeping beauty that laid on her bed. She stirred under the blankets, letting out a soft grunt as she reached over to switch the off button on the clock. Silence returned into the room, snuggling up in every corner as the blue-haired girl resumed her previous position, slowly allowing sleep to hold her.

Until the loud voice of her father ruined it.

"IT'S A BEAUTIFUL MORNING, SERENA! TIME TO GET UP!" The said girl groaned, her eyes clenching shut as he ripped open the curtains of her room, the sun's rays barging into her room just as her dad did.

"Dad," she whined, shoving a pillow into her face in an attempt to block the light that seemed to become brighter in every moment that passed.

"No whining today, my love," Her father, Rin, spoke as he tugged at the blanket she clutched close to her chest. "You've got to get up, or you're going to be late for your entry test at UA."

"Do I have to go?" she questioned, opening one eye, slowly becoming used to the amount of light in her bedroom.

Rin gasped, "Of course you do! This is a once in a lifetime opportunity! You've gotten in by recommendations! You don't want to..." Serena zoned out, ignoring the rest of her father's scolding.

"Ugh, fine. I'll get up just, please, stop talking," she muttered, throwing the blanket off of her body once she sat up. Rin grinned broadly, brushing off his daughter's comment. He was used to her coldness by now. Ever since her mother passed away, Serena changed. Rin knew everything. His daughter had told him how she froze time and was stuck for a very long time. He had cried himself to bed that night. His baby girl was forced to survive by herself in a place of isolation. But that was in the past. All he could do now was help her be the best version of herself. He'd do anything for her. She was his whole universe.

"Take care of our little angel, Rin," Sakura, Serena's mother, said quietly as tears streamed down her cheeks.

"I will," he promised, holding his wife close to his body as his own tears leaked out of his eyes. Blood was pooling out of a massive wound in her waist. She was stabbed by a villain that the cops managed to arrest shortly after. However, there was nothing anyone could do to save the women.

"She's going to become a strong hero one day," said Sakura, her body trembling as the blood loss slowly began to affect the rest of her body.

"Just like her mother," sniffed Rin, his fingers entangled into the soft blue hair of his lover. Sakura smiled warmly, reaching up to place her hand on his cheek. Rin leant into her palm, memorising the softness of it.

"You've got to stay strong for our little girl," she whispered, wiping away his tears. "I love you so much, Rin Akari," and with those final words, Sakura's hands collapsed onto the ground beside her, her eyes rolling into the back of her head.

"Sakura? Sakura?!" he shook her body, trying desperately to wake her but to no avail. Her body fell limp in his arms, and he let out a scream, one that had many bystanders looking towards the pro hero with sympathy. He lost his wife, his best friend. But he was going to live for her.

And for his daughter.

"I'll prepare something for you to take with you," he said warmly, placing a kiss upon her forehead before making his way down to the kitchen. Serena got up from her bed slowly, walking over to her bathroom where she got herself ready. She didn't bother wearing anything formal as she knew that the recommendation entrance exam included a practical test that would result in her clothes getting slightly dirty. So, in the end, Serena decided on a simple white shirt that had a small rose on fire design between her breasts and a pair of skinny blue jeans. She tied two pieces of her shirt at the bottom, making it into a bow before slipping on some combat boots. They were comfortable enough for her.

Putting the essential necessities into her bag, Serena made her way out of her room and down the stairs, where she was met with the smell of frying eggs and beef bacon. "Here you go, sweetie." beamed Rin as he handed his daughter a plate of eggs on toast and bacon.

"Thanks, dad." Serena ate her food slowly, not really caring if it might make her late. She didn't even want to go to school, but she had too. She needed to get into UA if she wanted to achieve her goal of becoming a hero. "I'm going now," she called before leaving the door once she heard her dad yell an okay.

The blue-haired beauty popped in her earphones, ignoring all the stares and mutters that made their way to her. She knew that the people that saw her was talking about her. They always were. Her striking blue hair and eyes always managed to draw attention.

Feeling a shift of weight on her shoulder, Serena glanced to her right and caught sight of her owl. "Oh, hello, Mystique."

The owl pecked the side of her face lovingly. Serena chuckled softly, reaching over and petting the top of the owl's head. It screeched softly, nuzzling into her cheek. The two made their way to the hero school, walking through the gates as if she owned the place. She stuffed her hands into her pockets, standing in front of the wide, welcoming doors.

"Welcome, Miss Akari." The principle of UA high school, Nezu, greeted her with a sweet look on his face. Serena didn't know if he was a mouse, a bear or even a dog. She dubbed him a chimaera, a mythological creature with different parts of animals combined. She nodded her head, acknowledging him as her face returned to its blank, emotionless look. "I do recommend leaving your owl outside. Animals are not allowed entry into the school," he informed her. Serena sighed and turned towards the owl perched upon her shoulder.

"You heard him," she mumbled. The owl screeched in a huff before taking off of her shoulder, moving to fly to one of the many trees that stood guard across the campus.

"Follow me." Serena and the principle walked silently throughout the halls, the former looking around and noting down everything around her. "You'll be doing the written exam first, with the rest of the recommended students," he notified her as they entered an average-sized room filled with lots of desks.

Everyone in the room turned to look towards the opening door. Their eyes all widened when in entered a literal goddess behind the principle, Nezu. She was the most beautiful girl they'd ever seen. Perfect azure ombre hair that descended down to her mid-back parted on the side, and skin that was so flawless it made paper look like it had acne. It looked so fragile yet so soft while her cheeks were the colour of pink roses, her eyelashes longer than anyone's any of them had ever seen. But it wasn't her out of the world body that caught their attention. Not her slightly revealing toned stomach or her precise curvey body. No.

It was her icy blue eyes that could swallow both galaxies and oceans. They were the blue that froze a person in place, captivated them for even the slightest of moments. They held so much knowledge and wisdom, and although she wore a blank expression on her face, they stored so many firey emotions, all waiting to be ignited by a single spark.

All the students in the room were captivated but none more than Shoto Todoroki and Momo Yaoyorozu.

"Now that everyone is here, shall we begin?"

"Rock on!" exclaimed Present Mic as he stood before the group of students that were all allocated a random number. "Now that the written part of the recommendation test is over, the practical part is next! The exam will be a three-kilometre race, but it is an obstacle race so you can't just run straight through it. Use your quirks to reach the finish!"

'Tch. What a pain' thought Serena as she waited behind all the students that stood giddily in front of her, well most of them at least. She didn't know why she had to do this. It was easy. When she opened the paper to the written exam, she couldn't help but scoff at how simple it was. But then again, she had years of knowledge packed into her brain while most didn't.

When the buzzer went off, all the students made their way over the obstacle course while Serena glanced around at all of them. Her gaze moved to the camera she spotted, looking straight at it and intimidating some of the teachers that sat at the other end of it, watching the race go by.

Serena felt a smirk pull at her lips before her eyes lit up and just like that, everything around her froze. She lazily walked through the obstacle course, her arms behind her head as she whistled a soft tune. Serena knew that she could've just walked straight through the course, no one would know, but she followed the rules and made her way over, ignoring all the determined people that froze in their running positions behind her. She didn't care for any of them, although, a few did catch her attention. Still, it wasn't enough for her to actually put in the effort to turn around and look at them properly.

When she finally made it to the finish line, she resumed time and crossed it, not even grinning when she heard her name being called as the first. She did prolong her stay a little bit, scanning everyone's quirks and noting it all down in her head. She'd never know when she'd go against them one day.

"Wowza! Number 41 finished second by a hair!" Present Mic yelled in amazement as Shoto Todoroki, and Inasa Yoarashi were neck and neck with each other, only for the latter to push himself forward just a bit.

Both students rose their brows at Present Mic's statement. 'Who came in first?'

The sound of the large metallic door opening gathered their attention. They turned to look at it, seeing only the blue hair of the heavenly beauty they came across this morning. While Inasa grew excited at even coming second, Todoroki brushed him off and thus increased Inasa's hatred towards the Todoroki family.

After the interview part of the exam, Serena left the school building, not bothered to stay any longer and get acquainted with the rest of the students. She wasn't going to UA to make friends. All she wanted to do was become a hero, and that's what she would do. Friends would only slow her down.

Serena looked towards the trees, her eyes scouring for her owl, Mystique. Instead of her finding her, the owl found the blue-haired girl, screeching softly as it flew towards her, landing on her shoulder. The beauty cracked up a smile, lovingly petting the owl's neck, who welcomed her affection.

From the window of the school building, in the staff office, the school's teachers all watched the child. "She's very powerful," observed Shota Aizawa, also known as Eraser Head. He leant against the window, his arms folded as he watched her slowly walk out of the school.

"She finished the race in just a few seconds!" Present Mic all but screamed, waving his arms around in astonishment.

"Her quirks are full of potential," noted Cementoss, looking down at the piece of paper that held all of her information. "After all, wasn't it her that froze time and captured many villains at such a young age?"

Instead of going home straight away, Serena decided to take a walk along the beach. It was her favourite place in the entire country. Recently, the garbage that littered it was slowly being cleaned up, she noticed. She wondered who it was that was actually putting in the effort to clean the beach.

When she arrived at the beach, her eyes widened. All the garbage was gone. She turned towards the sound of a warrior cry, her gaze landing on an all too familiar green-haired boy.

"Midoriya," she mumbled, his name slightly foreign on her tongue after so many years of not seeing him. 'He certainly looks different' she thought, taking notice of his heavily worked-out body.

Mystique narrowed her eyes at the sight of a familiar blonde man she had seen her friend watch. She nudged the human's cheek, motioning for her to look over in the direction she was previously facing. "Hmm?"

Serena rose a brow once she saw All Might standing before Midoriya. Deciding that it was none of her business, Serena left the scene, heading home to her father, who was most probably worrying about her right now, since she did leave her phone at home and could not contact him in any way.

When she returned home, her father was already at the door with a broad grin extending over his face. Serena wondered how long he had been standing outside, waiting for her to come back.

"How was it?!" Rin excitedly asked when his daughter arrived home.

Serena shrugged. "It was easy."

Rin sighed, shaking his head at the girl that resembled her mother a lot. He wrapped an arm around her shoulders, guiding her in and asking for every single detail. Deciding to humour him, Serena told him everything he wanted to know. She knew that it was his and her mother's dream for her to go into UA school, it was one of the reasons why she actually put in effort into her entrance exam.

Serena knew how much her dad was suffering. He missed his wife; they both did. But for Rin, she was his everything before she could become Serena's everything. Serena didn't know her mother as much as her father did; she didn't know how to cope with her own grief. But she did know that her father has sacrificed so much for her and she would do the same. If making friends and actually participating in the stuff that happens in school made him happy, then she would happily oblige. Serena wanted the best for her dad, just as he wanted the best for her.

And they'd both make sure that the other would have a happy life. No matter what.
