You do magic once, and it sticks to you like glitter glue...
When Johnny and his best friend, Alison, pass their summer holidays dabbling in magic, they never expect it to have consequences. Sure, it'd be great if they could banish bullies or change their lives for the better, and what harm could come from lighting a few candles and chanting a few spells? They get their answer in the form of an earthquake unleashed at their behest, which draws the attention of the Marduk Institute, an age-old organization dedicated to fostering the talents of young wizards.
Whisked away to the institute and told they can never return to their old lives, Johnny and Alison must quickly adapt to a new world shimmering with monsters, fraternities, and cute boys like Hunter and Blake. But when they're pulled into a dark, supernatural fight that could cost them their lives, they'll have to find strength they never knew they had as they battle for love, acceptance, and their own happy endings -- all with the help of a little bit of magic.
What inspired you to write "I'm a Gay Wizard?"
I wanted to write Degrassi set in a magic school... and much, much gayer ofc.
How long do you spend researching before beginning to write a book?
A ton. Because I like to write diverse books, I spend A LOT of time researching groups of people. For my trans character, Alison, I did a ton of research on trans women and even had two of my close trans friends tell me about their experiences.
How did you discover Wattpad? What are some of your favorite experiences on the platform?
I found Wattpad while randomly searching for websites where I could post my writing up for free. Winning a Watty back in 2017 was a highlight.
If you could have a cup of coffee with anyone in the world, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
Probably the filmmaker Gregg Araki. His films have had a huge impact on my creativity.
What do you like to do when you're not writing?
Buy expensive clothes for my chihuahua.
What do you identify as?
I identify as a gay non-binary guy.
If you're able to, can you tell us what you're currently working on or what's in store for the readers?
I'm about to finish posting the sequel to I'M A GAY WIZARD, WIZARDS ARE SO GAY, this Friday, but I'm also, simultaneously, working on the second revision to WIZARDS ARE SO GAY that I hope to submit to Wattpad Books for publication.
Do you have any favorite Wattpad writers?
Too many to name. @NodaOrtiz @AgathaRoza @DezSchwartz @CliffJonesJr @MaggieDerrick @AWFrasier @Rebecca-Jade @LEPalphreyman @LyssFrom1996 @KR_Williams @SabrinaBlackBurry (I have many, many more I'd like to list, but I'm running out of room).
What is the best writing advice you have received? What advice can you give to writers out there?
All writing advice is bad. Taking too much writing advice can stiffen your writing. Do what feels and looks right to you.
