Chapter 4
You slept a dreamless sleep, as you often do. Groaning as you turned over in bed to look at the time you realized how early it actually was. 6:35 AM. You had to get up early to go hunting again. You had shared the last of your venison with Sans last night. You pulled yourself up, stretching. You could hear your bones pop and crack as you extended your arms and tail.
You left your room and almost left the house before deciding it would be best to tell Sans where you were going. Wouldn't want him hurting himself or something while you were gone. You walked into the guest room to find him curled up on the floor in the corner of the room in a little ball, snoring. You sighed and put him back on the mattress. You let him sleep and left him a note telling him where you were going. You'd have to change his bandages when you got back.
You left the house into the cool winter air. The only meat you'd be able to get for the next few months would be deer, but you were okay with that. Venison was delicious, especially when prepared correctly. You started walking down a trail, and when you felt you were sufficiently down into the woods you transformed into your wolf form, going through the short metamorphosis process. For the next few hours you were chasing deer. You ended up with quite the catch, and with such a large wolf form you decided to carry them home that way. There were five deer in all, two does and three bucks. You and Sans would be fed for weeks, definitely enough for him to heal suitably to leave.
It took you a few hours to get home, awkwardly carrying the five deer on your back and in your mouth. You dropped them quite a few times on the way, but you succeeded in getting home. You dropped them on the table you put outside for cleaning purposes and changed back into your two-legged form, walking inside to find your knives and start cleaning the meat. You were surprised to still hear Sans' snored from in his room. It was past two in the afternoon. You washed your hands and went to wake him up.
He was asleep in the corner of the room again. You sighed and knelt down next to him, gently nudging his shoulder, trying to wake him up. He groaned, but continued to sleep. He was a heavy sleeper. You shook him a little bit, and this got his eyes to flutter, then he just about shot up from the floor. "FUCK I SLEPT IN!" he was screaming and then he flinched because he got up too fast again. "Dude calm down. What's got you so worked up. Jeez, it's okay to sleep in, especially in your condition." He seemed to calm down a little.
"I was gonna ask if you wanted to help me with something, but I'm having second thoughts." "No, I'll help." He was smiling, so you assumed he was happy about something. That made the situation a little better. "I had to go hunting this morning, I was wondering if you'd like to help me clean the meat?" Sans nodded and you led him outside to your table. You had already grabbed your knives, and the two of you finished cleaning the meat in about an hour. Sans worked like he had done this a million times. It looked almost professional.
"Wow, you're really good at this." You had done this so many times you thought you were good at it, but it looked like a two-year-old's work compared to his. "Thanks?" he phrased it more like a question as he helped you put the meat into the freezer. The two of you washed your hands and you sat him down in the living room. "I need to change your bandages, do you mind." You gestured towards his shirt and he nodded and took it off while you went to get the extra bandages and some clean water with a rag.
You left the bandages on his broken ribs, but you changed all the other ones and let him put his shirt back on before checking his head wound. That was actually healing quite nicely for one night. "There" you had put a smaller bandage on the back of Sans' head. "Any better today?" He nodded at you. "Alright then, imma go make dinner." You got up and made venison again, which Sans gobbled up just as fast as last night.
"Hey, can I ask you a question?" he looked over at you and responded, "Ya just did." You giggled, "You know that's not what I meant." You playfully glared at him. "Yeah, go on, shoot." "I was just wondering why you kept moving into the corner in your sleep?" Sans froze. He obviously didn't want to talk about it. "It's a long story." he mumbled to himself and looked down. "You don't have to tell me if you don't want to." You put a hand on his shoulder, reassuring him. He smiled, but remained silent.
"Hey, you wanna watch a movie?" he looked over at you and grinned. "Would I! Hell yes!" you smiled and grabbed the box of movies that you had, handing it to Sans. "Pick one." He hesitantly started digging through the box. He ended up picking a horror movie you'd wanted to see for a while, but was too busy to watch it. You put it in and the title screen appeared. 'The Shining' was across the small TV screen and you pressed play, sitting next to him on the couch.
The movie was two and a half hours long, and Sans had passed out about halfway through it. He was leaning against your shoulder, you hadn't even noticed until the credits started rolling and you felt him move as you tried to get up. You picked him up and carried him to the guest room bridal style. You imagined that he'd be upset if he woke up like this, so you were quick. You pushed the mattress up against the corner, in hopes of keeping him on it in the night and covered him with the blankets.
You went to stand up, but something stopped you. Sans grabbed your wrist in his sleep and mumbled "Please stay..." and fell back into proper sleep. You sat down on his mattress and leaned up against the wall, complying with his request. This was going to be a long night.
