Chapter 12
The next two movies went more smoothly. You didn't have to stop and explain part of them to Sans over and over, so it only took about four hours to finish them. By that time Sans was once again snoozing peacefully. As you watched the last scene of 'Voyage of the Dawntreader' Sans was asleep snuggled into your side. You were subconsciously petting the top of his skull.
The credits rolled across the screen and you heard a thump. You twitched back, ears perked, listening. Then another, louder thump. "HUMAN!" Papyrus' voice rang through the cabin. Sans stirred, but thankfully didn't wake, so you carefully laid him down on the couch, covered him up with a blanket and teleported into Papyrus' room.
"What is it," you grumbled at him. Papyrus turned from his banging on the door and glared at you. "I DEMAND TO BE SET FREE!" "Not with that attitude. You're not going anywhere, buster." You raised your fingers to snap. "HUMAN! WAIT!" Papyrus screeched. You growled quietly, "Why am I waiting, Papyrus?" "BECAUSE I SAID TO," he screeched. "Nah, I think I'll leave," you again raised your hand and snapped, reappearing in the living room.
You looked at the couch, where Sans should have been, but he wasn't there. "Sans, where are you," you called out. There wasn't an answer. You looked through the house. "Sans, are you here?" You'd call out time and time again... but there was no answer.
"YOU WON'T FIND HIM! HE'D BE LONG GONE," you heard Papyrus yell from your room. Immediately you teleported to him. Your head was down, your eyes hidden in the shadow of your face. "What the fuck do you mean?" Your voice was dark, deep, deeper than usual, and frightening. Papyrus let out an evil chuckle. "OH WOULDN'T YOU LIKE TO KNOW, HUMAN", a sky smirk creeper across his face, then you felt it. A faint, magical signal, almost pulsing. It was malevolent, making an attempt at scaring you, but it failed.
"You bastard," you mumbled at Papyrus. He looked over at you. He had been letting off a magical signal, a signal that was scaring Sans. He'd run off.
You snapped, teleporting outside to begin your search. You kept close to the cabin at first, looking in all the holes that were close by. Anywhere Sans might be able to hide. He wasn't there, so you ventured farther outwards.
You searched for hours, deep into the night. By the crack of dawn you had made to the lake you had shown Sans.
"Sans!" You screamed into the air, hoping that you'd get an answer. Then, from the corner of your eye, you saw something sitting at the shore, underneath the dock. You stepped closer, moving slowly, carefully. As you grew closer you realized that it was Sans. You didn't want to scare him, so you continued to walk quietly.
You now stood right behind him, and you could see that he was holding something, but you didn't know what. "Sans," you said softly, gaining his attention. He flinched, hiding whatever it was he was holding. "Y-y/n, what're you doing here?" He stuttered. "I was looking for you, Sans. Are you alright?" You sat down beside him, wrapping an arm around his shoulders. He was quivering ever so slightly. "Y-yeah, I'm fine." You knew that something was wrong. You looked down where you knew he was hiding something.
"What were you doing before I got here, Sans," you asked him. "N-nothing!" He snapped slightly. You studied his hiding closely. There was a reddish stain in his black jacket. "Sans, let me see your arm," you demanded. His head snapped to look at you. "Why?" He asked you. "Just give me your arm." Sans hesitated before slowly moving his arm towards you. You gingerly grabbed hold. When Sans flinched at your touch you knew what he had been doing. You pulled up his sleeve slowly, revealing various cuts, deep ones, in his radius and ulna. He had been cutting.
"Sans, why?" You asked him. He looked down, as if he were ashamed. "P-papyrus... his magic... it scares me..." he whispered the last part. "C'mere" you opened up your arms, allowing Sans to lean into you. As he did you wrapped him in your arms, trying to give him a comforting hug. His breaths were starting to shudder, as if he were holding back tears. "Sans, calm down. Papyrus can't hurt you. You're fine. Listen to me, it's okay to cry. It's not a sign of weakness. Just let it out." With that he burst into tears. They were silent, other than his heavy breaths. You rocked him back and forth, shushing him and whispering sweet nothings into his ears.
The both of you spent a long time sitting under the docks. Sans, crying in your arms, and you doing your best to calm him down. It was noon before he had calmed down enough you could speak. "Sans?" You asked. "Hmm?" He answered. "Sans, would you like to go home and take a nap?" He froze for a moment, hesitated, then nodded. "Alright then, c'mon." You snapped, and the both of you landed on the mattress you had moved to the floor.
"Would you like me to stay with you?" You asked softly. Once again Sans gave a slight nod, a light, ruby blush dusting his cheekbones. "Alright. I'll stay with you." You layed on your side and let Sans get comfortable. He curled up in a small ball, leaning into your chest. You then put your arms back around his frame, pulling him closer. Soon enough he fell asleep, snoozing peacefully. You joined him soon after, becoming only remotely aware of the small snores coming from right beside you.
