Suit Up

(Kevin)

"Finally," I sigh, staring in the black hole that led to the Underground. "A junk hunt." A grin stretched itself on my face as I stared in a moment longer, then I jumped in.

The tunnel smelt the same as when I was last in it, dank, dirty, damp, and rat shit, it was close to home now. Moldy water squished under my boots and made grime stick. "Great to be back in this shit hole." I declared in all but a cheer.

"I wish I could share the enthusiasm." Edd replied, landing behind me. He tried not to show it, but failed in a god awful way, that he wouldn't cringe at filthy and germ filled places. I knew better than anyone by now, with the two of us thicker than thieves in that junk pile. "And it isn't a junk hunt," he continued. "Your old uniform is beyond my ability to repair, so we are going to see Scarlet about a new outfit."

I rolled my eyes at him but my grin only grew. It was only my shirt that was beyond repair, he thinks I don't see him making quick glances at me and how red his face gets when I pretend to catch him staring. "Whatever you say, Edd." I quip, catch the faint red dusting his cheeks before he walked ahead of me. I followed close but casual.

Lights from sewer caps came and when that I lost count, like any other time I'm down here.

Try a move on him?

I shook my head at myself. Those sort of things would blow over his head. Flirting is something he doesn't compute and he only uses his body and seemingly sweet words to get what he wants. I've watched Bones attempts enough times to figure out you have to be as blunt as a bat for the dork to understand.

True, but he didn't exactly over-think anything with the creep 'cause he didn't honestly find any romantic feelings. He knows you and you know him.

As true as that may be, he does know me. We went to training, came class and all, though he got held back at graduation. He also knows I flirted with a lot of women, had quite a few under my arm too. He knows my history, I don't even know if he actually forgives me for aiming a gun at him.

I stared at the back of his head, the guilt eating at me from my stomach and up. Not the most promising way to start thinking of falling for your former target.
I blew out air from my lungs, scraping my fingers through my hair.

Hell, isn't it?

"Hell it is indeed." I murmured out loud before freezing at a realization.

"What was that?" Edd asked, looking back at me as he stopped in his step. So rigid in his stance, like a rookie fresh from the training, but I know how flexible he is.

I swallowed down the thick ball of saliva before answering. "Nah, jus' talking to myself." I put on what I hoped was a casual grin.

He gave a quirked smirk before walking on ahead.

Smooth, you can lie too.

"Shut up." I grumbled under my breath as I followed after him.

Whatever. It's your loss.

He finally went quiet and I could pick up the noise of people ahead of us. The tunnel eventually opened up into the glamored dome and Edd and I looked out over the makeshift civilization. It was bustling with life like always.

We entered the town, ducking under hanging clothes and dodged rampant kids. Edd led the way mainly to this Scarlet-lady's place.
The place was like Bone's shop just with a clothing sign painted by the open door.

"Miss Scarlet?" He called into the busy shop.

A woman in red popped up from the hall floor in the back. Scarlet surely did suit her.

"Eddward Vincent," she exclaimed as she climbed out of the box she appeared from and put her glasses. "Is that you my vanished treasure? You forgot your scraps."
She shimmied her way over with arms wide open. She was dressed in a one piece red swimsuit thing that closed up around her neck but had a diamond shaped hole showing cleavage, farther downward were red mid thigh hooker boots, along her hands and arms were fingerless gloves.

"I was a bit rushed that I forgot." Edd replied to her. "But you certainly have changed." He added returning her hug.

"Yea, training a successor takes up time and really gets you back in shape." She giggles. "Someone has to pass on my techniques." Then she put on a serious face. "Now what brings you back to my shop?"

Edd looked back to me and pulled me forward by my wrist. "This is my partner from the Facility," he explained. "We've been living in hiding and his clothing is beyond repair. I didn't know who else to go to."

He didn't even get halfway through his second sentence and I could see her gears turning behind the rectangular specs.
"Then let's go into my office." She chirped after a bit and turning on her needle point heels, then leading back to the hole in the floor. Edd trailed after her and I followed after him down the aisle and down the hole.

"Step on the scale." The woman called. I got an expectant look from Edd so I figure she was talking to me. I stepped on the scale after almost tripping over it. "Tell me the number." She ordered.

"One ninety-two." I answered.

"Step off the scale." Scarlet ordered again as she walked over with measuring tape. "And arms out."

An hour and a half later I was in a monkey suit more comfortable than my uniform. And it wasn't brightly colored. Underground is all about blending into the background isn't it?
"And a finishing touch." She quipped slinging a strap over my shoulders and the new sturdy material covering them. "Now you can carry more artillery than with that old belt."

Edd carried up a full body mirror and I got a look at myself. I don't know anything about fabrics but the material was great, sturdy and flexible, breathable like Eddward had said before.

"Well?" Scarlet asked curiously. "Compliments, criticism, something?"

"Wow?" I offered getting a giggle. Underground knows a thing or two about efficiency and comfort. Could kick asses in the clothing business everywhere.
