So I just heard about this this morning, and I am seriously disturbed. New York City has passed a law criminalizing the use of "Illegal Alien." Yeah, you heard me right, this isn't an excerpt of an Orwellian novel, this is reality.
Once you're done picking your jaw up off the floor, let's think about this. Anyone here heard of the first amendment? I'll copy and paste it:

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

"Congress shall make no law... abridging the freedom of speech..."
How is possible that law like this passed? It's so sickeningly, blatantly unconstitutional.
The exact phrasing of the law is to criminalize the use of "illegal alien" when spoken with hateful intent.
Give me a break. It's now the government's job to examine a person's motive for speaking? The real purpose of this law is to shut up conservatives and anyone who promotes the proper enforcement  immigration laws by branding them with that feared title of "hater."
Believe it or not liberals, "illegal alien" is an actual legal word referring to an illegal immigrant. It's not a slur, or an insult. It's not "hate speech" it's free speech, and, last I checked, free speech is an American right. This law needs to be taken to the Supreme Court and upended immediately. This direct violation of constitutional rights in New York cannot stand.
