(Momotarou Mikoshiba) Be my Princess?

A/n: Maaaaan, I've been meaning to finish this oneshot WAY before the Rin one. Oh well. At least I finally finished it XD

Also, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE VOTES AND VIEWS. THEY ABSOLUTELY MAKE MY DAY. Free! is like my ultimate fandom... for reals. I can never escape this homo-swimming-boy-void...

This is pretty much based off the otome game Be my Princess, the Glenn route. Anyone played the game? It's so fun and each of the characters have such an interesting story! Anyway, I hope you guys like this one!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"(F/n)-chan, would you like to be my princess?" A fiery haired, nine year old boy asked his best friend with a hopeful glint in his topaz eyes and rubbing his arm.
The young girl, one year older than him in fact, pouted as she ran her fingers along the sand of the beach they were chilling at. "Baka, Momo-chan! How can I be your princess if you're not a prince?" She pointed out matter-of-factly.
Momo puffed out his cheeks in disappointment. "Whaaa, (F/n)-chan!" He frowned slightly. He thought a few seconds and piped up, "Fine, you can't be a princess, but we need to promise to always be together!"
The (h/c) haired girl turned all her attention to her red haired friend with a surprised expression. "Baka! Why do we need to promise when we know it's going to happen?" She spat at him. Momo stared at her in shock for her positive outburst, but overall, it made him happy that that was the case. "You're saying that like as if we might get separated. You and Seijuro-nii-chan are my best friends. It'd hurt too much to be away from you."
Momo beamed brightly at her answer and tackled the girl into a crushing hug, causing her to giggle uncontrollably. He pulled off her and stuck out his pinky towards her. (F/n) gazed at the finger in confusion before Momo told her, "But it'd make me feel better if we promised, so it can never ever be broken!"
(F/n) huffed out in annoyance as she hooked her pinky finger with his. "Fine, I promise, Momo-chan, that we will always be together... Also, if you ever become a prince, then I'll be your princess."
Momo brightened even more. "Really? You'd be my princess?" He asked her.
(F/n) nodded, returning the toothy smile. "Yes. If you ever become a prince, then I'll be your princess."
"Yeah, ok, promise!"
~*~*~Many years later~*~*~
(F/n)'s POV
I tapped my pencil to my desktop as I thought back on the memory of when I was young. It was so long ago but I couldn't help but think it was only yesterday I made that pinky promise with Momo... I wonder what ever happened to him and Seijuro.
In the middle of my junior high years, I had to move all of a sudden. My parents didn't give me much of a notice so my time with the Mikoshiba boys had been cut short. I still remember the pain I went through on the day we moved. I didn't want to let go of Momo's embrace... But I had to.
When high school came around, I had requested going to school close to our hometown and my parents agreed. So, with hopes that I will see either of my old friends, I attended Iwatobi High... But, I was wrong.
By that time, I had lost contact with either boy and there was no way to have asked where they were attending for school.But, I grew to love Iwatobi High, and soon enough, trying to find the boys were pushed back far into my mind, never again much a priority. It still stings me though. We were all so close.
"(F/n)-chan," I heard my name whispered behind me. I slightly craned my head to the side, so I can look at the magenta-haired girl.
"Yes?" I answered Gou.
"Regionals are coming up soon, want to come and watch?" She asked me with anticipation.
"Oh, is it that time already?" I questioned with raised brows.
She nodded her head. "Yeah, the boys have been working hard and it'd be great to have some support."
I thought about what my schedule was like and couldn't think of any complications. "Yeah, sure, I'll come."
"Yay! I'll let the guys know you're coming," she cheered.
I've known the swim team since my first year here. Even though I had turned down the opportunity to join the new club, I was curious for certain reasons. I had helped them set up the club to have it running and occasionally, I'll watch them practice. Not once had I come to see any of their competitions since of my lack of time but I still managed to become fair friends with every member in the swim team.
So, I have to be the good friend and cheer them on.
...
I entered the building of where Regionals were at a little late. I wish I hadn't overslept and missed the first train here. I rushed through the hallways, hoping to find my way around. I've missed so much of the competition already, as long as I get to see one race with either Iwatobi boy, then I will feel content.
I slow down my pace as I see a group of four boys clad in black uniforms. They were obviously a swim team... I stared at the lettering on the back of their jackets. Samezuka... Isn't there some weird rivalry between them and Iwatobi.
I narrow my eyes again. Magenta hair. That... Must be Rin, Gou's older brother. I hurried over to them and tapped his shoulder. He glimpsed back at me with a look of confusion. "Hi, Rin-san," I greeted him awkwardly. "I'm Gou's friend."
"Oh, (F/n), right?" He replied, now much more relaxed. I nodded at him. "I haven't seen you in a while."
I felt intense stares bore into me as I talked to the third-year. My (e/c) eyes dart around to his teammates. I stop on one in particular. Fiery red hair, golden-like eyes... He stared back at me in complete shock.
"You!" The two of us burst out simultaneously, pointing at each other. "What are you doing here?!"
I was sure I was causing more unneeded attention towards myself from Samezuka. Before I could say anything else, the said boy tackled me into a crushing hug. "(F/n)-chan..." He muffled into the crook of my neck. I trembled under his low, soft voice. "I thought I lost you forever."
His words struck a chord in me. I wrapped my arms around him to return the necessary hug. Over Momo's shoulder, I saw the rest of them looking at us incredulously. I pulled away from the redhead and introduced myself to the two who weren't familiar to me. "Hi, sorry, I'm (L/n) (F/n) but (F/n) is fine." The other two boys were named Yamazaki Sousuke and Nitori Aiichirou.
I turned to Momo once again, speechless. There were a lot of questions running through my mind at this very moment I wanted to ask my childhood friend. "I'm sorry, (F/n), we really do need to get going for the relay race," Rin quipped, interrupting my thoughts.
I then remembered why I had approached the boys in the first place. "Oh. Right. I wanted to ask you where I should go... I was supposed to be here hours ago and..."
Rin pointed farther down the hallway. "To meet with Gou and the others, go down that way and go into your left. It shouldn't be too hard to find them."
"Thanks." I glimpsed over at Momo, who looked to be a little saddened we don't have much more time together. "Hey, let's try to meet up after this?" I suggested in a hopeful tone.
He nodded his head enthusiastically. "Yeah, of course!" We gave each other one last hug. Once pulling away, I bid goodbye to the Samezuka boys and scurried off the direction Rin told me to go.
I entered the actual place I was supposed to go to. Instantly, I spotted Gou and a few other friends who came to support. I sat down in the vacant seat next to the magenta-haired girl. "Oh my god, (F/n)-chan! You're finally here."
"Yeah, sorry," I murmured out. Gou stared at me for a good minute. Her gaze is making me a bit squeamish. "What is it?"
"Your face is flushed. You didn't run all the way here, did ya?" She asked me with an amused smile.
I pouted at her. "No. I just saw an old friend, is all."
It was announced that the relay race was about to start, saving me from Gou asking any more questions. I peered over to the teams. I saw Haru, Makoto, Nagisa, and Rei coming up to their spots. Then... Right next to them had to Samezuka. My face started burning at the sight of shirtless Momotarou. Now that I think about it, he really did change in a way. He was more well-built and he was strikingly taller than me.
I pressed my lips together as a million things cluttering my brain. No... No, no, no. This was my childhood friend who was a year younger than me. This was my friend who likes collecting stag beetles on his free time. This was the same exact boy that I've seen dance around in his room in his underwear.
But, I can't push aside the butterflies in my stomach.
I found my childhood best friend attractive.
~*~*~*~*~*~
After Regionals, I was able to keep in contact with both Momo and Seijuro. (It's a miracle I was able to see him too.) The Mikoshiba boys and I have tried to meet up as much as possible, but it has been kinda difficult since Seijuro was in college now.
And... I've grown to like Momo even more than before. You'd think its weird how he's into a variety of odd, random things. But I've known him since we were children. I was used to his particular obsessions and can tolerate them.
Oh my god...
There was a festival later tonight and I was debating whether to invite Momo or not. I was already dressed in my favorite outfit to go to this event... All I have to do was ask.
I stared at my phone blankly. It was on an empty text message with Momo's name already on the top of the screen. My thumbs were hovering over the buttons but I couldn't bring myself to press anything. Why can't I do it??
My phone unexpectedly buzzed, startling me. I glimpsed down and saw I gotten a new text message from the very boy I was trying to text.
From: Momo :)
(F/n)-chan! I heard there's a festival tonight. You want to join me? I know it's very last minute but I was hoping we can go together!!
I grinned widely. Wow, seems to me that he's psychic. I sent out a reply:
To: Momo :)
Yeah! I've been meaning to ask you, actually.
From: Momo :)
Great! I'll meet up with you there?
I texted him one last time that I was leaving to go there now. Just as I opened my door, I was surprised to see Gou and Chigusa standing outside. "What are you guys doing here?" I asked in bewilderment.
The two girl beamed at me. "We wanted to see if you would like to come with us to the festival," Gou answered me. "It looks like you were planning to anyway!" The two girls linked their arms with mine.
"Yeah, let's go or they'll run out of the fried squid!" Chigusa chirped in joy as they both pulled me along with them.
"So, what happened with the boys?" I questioned next as we walked down the sidewalk towards where the festival was.
"Makoto, Nagisa, and Rei went to go get Haru... You know how he was," Gou replied with a tint of sadness in his voice. I nodded in understanding. Haru-senpai did seem a little down recently. "So, for now, it'll be us girls until we find them there!"
We walked for a couple more minutes until I piped up, "Actually, gals, I was planning on meeting up with someone there."
I could feel both of their stares boring into me. Instantly, I felt uncomfortable. "Oooh, is there a boy (F/n)-chan hasn't told us about?" Chigusa smugly murmured, shaking my arm slightly. "You sly girl!"
My cheeks flared at the brunette's teasing. "It's the same childhood friend I've told you about," I interjected.
"You still need to tell me more about this friend of yours. You've been hanging out with him a lot lately!" Gou pointed out, a smirk playing along her lips. My heart pounded. How will she feel when this friend is actually Momo, a boy from our rival team? "Are you in love with him, (F/n)-chan?"
"I-In love?!"
"Yes!" Chigusa and Gou chimed in unison.
I was downright flustered with the question. Was I?
"Oh my goodness, what is he doing here?" Gou gasped all of a sudden. Chigusa and I followed her gaze and spotted a familiar redhead in the distance. "I don't know if I ever told you guys this, but every time he pops up, he tries to flirt with me."
"Really?" I squeaked out, mildly surprised. I mean, not really, because Gou was a pretty girl...But...
"Yeah. Just like his brother. It's just so weird," the magenta-haired girl continued with a shiver. So... Momo likes Gou. "Oh no! He saw us!" Gou was right, Momo attention was now on us. "Nooo, he's coming over."
Momo jogged over to us with a bright smile on his face. He stopped right in front of us. "Hi, girls," he greeted us before his eyes landed on me. "You ready to go, (F/n)-chan?"
I can feel the shock radiating from the two girls besides me. "I should've mentioned that this was my childhood friend," I told them sheepishly. I pulled away from their grasps. "I'm sorry, guys, but I was planning on walking around with Momo-kun, if y'all don't mind."
After a second of blankly gawking at me, Gou and Chigusa came back to their senses. "Yeah, go ahead! We'll see you later, ok?" Gou agreed. They gave me one last glance before disappearing into the crowd.
Momo offered me his arm from me to latch onto. I gladly accepted and the two of us went off to explore the festival together.
~*~*~*~*~*~
We decided to wait by the ledge overlooking the sea for the fireworks. Momo brought up silly memories of when the two of us played together when we were children. It still brings a smile to my face as I listened to him talk animatedly about our past. With refreshing drinks in hand and having each other's company, this night was already perfect enough for me.
"(F/n)-chan, I have something to tell you." My best friend's voice suddenly changed into a more serious tone. I looked at him intently, giving him my full attention. "Do you remember the promise we made with each other when we were like ten?"
"The one that we'll always be together forever?" I brought up with a warm smile. "That promise still stands, you know." He returned the smile but broke eye contact with me. I stared at him as he seemed a lot more fidgety than usual. "Something wrong, Momo-chan?"
"I also remembered asking you to be my princess before that," he mumbled out shyly, his cheeks flushed a crimson red.
The memory of that moment resurfaced in my mind and I could feel my face heating up as well. I tried to play it cool as I teasingly asked him, "Well, that promise cannot be fulfilled if you're not a prince." He glimpsed up at me, his topaz eyes filled with indescribable emotions. My words caught in my throat as I gazed back at him. Did I say something wrong?
"If I ever had the chance to become a prince, I would do it just for you..." I felt my stomach doing flips at his reply. Momo rubbed his arm repeatedly, a nervous habit of his I've known since we were children. "... And maybe, you can be my princess..." Little bits and pieces started to fit together in my brain as I stared at my childhood friend. "I've had this crazy crush on you when we were kids."
Recollections of our past filled my brain once again. Just the way Momo always cared for me and made me feel special was never forgotten. Whenever I got hurt or got sick, he was the first to tend to me than my own parents. He... treated me like a princess.
"Do you still have this crazy crush on me?" I asked him.
"... Yeah."
Bliss overwhelmed me by his words. "Then... maybe we should go out sometime?" I offered.
He glanced over to me, surprised. "What?" he sputtered in disbelief.
I nodded my head, as if to confirm what he might've heard. "Let's go on a date, Momo-chan!"
He looked so flustered. "W-Wha?! I should be the one asking you out!"
"I already did it though. We live in the twenty-first century. I can ask you out if I wanted to... and I wanted to!" I argued with a pout. After a short silence, we shared a laugh. "But, it looked like you were about to explode, so I took matters in my own hands."
"How do you expect me to be your prince if you do things like that?" Momo responded with a smile.
"Baka! You already are my Prince Charming-" I clamped my hand over my lips in mortification. "My god. That was so corny."
Momo tackled me into a hug, his arms securely around my body. I could feel the happiness radiating off his body. "I don't care because you're already my princess."
