(Makoto Tachibana) Confessions

"Makoto-san..." The poor first-year shuffled her feet in a nervous manner before giving the tall, emerald-eyed swimmer the box of chocolate that she made personally. "Please accept these chocolates and my confession. I really like you Makoto-san and you're so nice and--"

"I'm sorry."

That was all it took. Those two words. Two words that a lot of admirers hate to hear from the boy they desperately desired. The girl didn't say anything else. She turned her heel and walked away down the hallway, surely with tears brimming her eyes.

"That's the third one this week," (F/n) mentally noted as she had watched the scene go down. She closed her locker and stalked off out of the school as it was now the end of the day.

The (h/c) haired girl pondered to herself as to why Makoto Tachibana doesn't accept anyone's confession. It was odd, she'll admit. Many beautiful girls have confessed to the captain of the swim team but they end up the same. Rejected. But Makoto does it so sweetly and sincerely that no girl can dare to be mad at him. "I know I wouldn't," she muttered under her breath.

It was saddening. (F/n) being a third year, she had knowledge of Makoto Tachibana before many of those admirers. She liked him herself... Maybe fallen in love with him but she didn't dare to look more into her feelings for him. Those girls only now have the confidence to confess because they knew Makoto was about to graduate. They wanted the last minute chance to be with the handsome swimmer. "I do too," (F/n) sighed. "If only I had the courage to talk to him."

She continued her walk until she made it to the familiar, rebuilt building. She walked inside was instantly greeted by Coach Sasabe. "Ohayo, Sasabe-san!" She greeted in her usual chipper mood.

"Ah, (F/n)! Hello, hello. I have some good news!" The blonde man bursted at the young girl, startling her with his sudden booming voice. "It'll only be temporary but we will have someone volunteering to make it easier for us! He'll stay until we find an official employee."

"That is great!" (F/n) cheered with a clap of her hands. "So who is he?"

"Oh, he should be coming soon. Go ahead and change. I'll introduce him to everyone once he gets here," Coach Sasabe told her. With a nod, she walked away to go change into her uniform.

Once in her official Iwatobi Swim Club Returns swimsuit, she entered the pool and greeted the few workers she had befriended. Suddenly, their boss caught their attention. He strolled into the room with that usual intimidating aura. The employees, (F/n) included, lined up in front of Coach Sasabe. "Everyone, we were lucky enough to have found someone volunteer for us until we find a full-time member. He's a good kid and a fantastic swimmer so welcome him with open hearts..."

"When did Coach Sasabe get so sappy?" One worker joked, earning a few snickers.

"Oi! I heard that Mizushima!" Coach Sasabe shouted, causing everyone to stop laughing. "Anyway, please welcome someone I had coached myself..." (F/n)'s brain clicked but before she could narrow down anyone, a figure walked into the room shyly. She inwardly gasped. "Everyone meet Makoto Tachibana. He'll be helping us temporarily."

Everyone shouted their hellos to the tall boy. "Wow, the new kid is really cute," Mizushima murmured over to (F/n) with a nudge to her arm. "Hey... Are you ok?" (F/n) looked at the older girl in confusion. The brunette girl pointed at her face. "You look a little red... Heyyy, don't tell me you're already in love with him!"

"We go to the same school, Mizushima-senpai. It's not like that!" She lied in a fluster. She touched her cheeks and felt how warm they were.

"Alright, everyone get to work!" Coach Sasabe yelled. "(F/n), please come here."

Mizushima shot the third-year girl a smirk before abruptly pushing her forward. (F/n) cursed under her breath for being friends with her and stepped towards Coach Sasabe and Makoto. "Yes, coach?"

"Do you mind showing Makoto the ropes?" Coach Sasabe asked her. "I trust you more than anyone here and I know you two go to the same school. Makoto, you know (F/n) (L/n)? I believe you're both in the same level as well?"

Before (F/n) could answer with a no, Makoto beat her to the punch. "Yes, I know (F/n)," the olive brown haired boy answered with a soft smile that got (F/n)'s stomach twisting into knots.

"Perfect! Well, once you show Makoto around, (F/n), both of you get to work, ok? Kids will be coming in soon."

"Yes sir," both (F/n) and Makoto replied in unison.

The blonde man smacked his hands onto their shoulders a little too roughly. (F/n) contained her yelp since she was used to it but Makoto let out a grunt by the sudden force. "Fantastic! Go on then!"

The two teens turned their heel and scurried out of the room. Both of them rubbed their sore shoulders. "Um, you'll get used to it," (F/n) told Makoto. "He does it all the time whenever you're doing a good job."

"... I want to do a good job but if I get that every time, I don't know if I want to," Makoto muttered with a sigh.

(F/n) let out a giggle, earning a smile from her fellow classmate. "C'mon, let me show you everything."

For about twenty minutes, (F/n) given Makoto a tour of the building and told him what he'd have to do now that he's going to be working here. Fortunately, this had gotten her more comfortable with the captain. She doesn't even know why she'd been so scared to talk to to him before. He really was the sweetheart everyone makes him out to be.

"Trust me, you're going to love it here," (F/n) told him as they returned to the pool. "Oh, and looks like your class is here." At one corner of the room, a group of five kids were getting ready to swim. "They're nice kids. You'll love them instantly."

"It's (F/n)-san!" One girl proclaimed, pointing towards their direction. Both of the teens sweat dropped when all of them rushed over to give the (h/c) haired girl a hug.

"Hey everyone! Guys, we found someone amazing to help you learn how to swim," (F/n) informed the young kids. She pulled away from their arms and gestured over to the teen next to her. "Guys, please welcome him with open arms." She averted her eyes over to him when nothing came out his lips. "Go ahead and introduce yourself, Makoto-kun."

The green eyed teen stiffened but told the kids, "Hello there. I'm Tachibana Makoto, and I'll be helping to coach you starting today. It's nice to meet you." He bowed as well to his five students.

"Nice to meet you!" All of them returned with bright, excited smile on their adorable faces. (F/n) grinned at their sudden anticipation.

"Makoto-san, are you and (F/n)-san dating?" One young girl asked him instantly. The rest of the kids giggled as the two teens blushed furiously at the random question.

"Michi, why would you ask such a question?" (F/n) questioned the dark-haired girl. "We're not dating."

The whole group let disappointed sighs. "Would you two ever date??"

(F/n) glanced over at Makoto apologetically as the kids shot the two of them a million questions. "If they cause any trouble, let me or Coach Sasabe know, ok?"

"Of course," Makoto nodded. And with that, (F/n) turned away to let Makoto coach the kids on his own.

...

Time had passed at the swim club and (F/n) found herself to really enjoy Makoto presence. Even in school, the two would greet each other and have a small chat whenever they have the time between classes. Now, the two would usually walk over to the swim club together after school. This was more than what (F/n) expected when Makoto volunteered, but, no, she doesn't mind at all.

Also, the way Makoto coaches the kids warms her heart. He does with such patience and gentleness. (F/n) knew that the kids loved their new coach, even Hayato. Especially Hayato.

It just makes her fall for Makoto Tachibana a little harder.

"I'm really sorry." After rejecting yet another poor soul, Makoto walked over to (F/n) with an uneasy expression on his face. He let out a sigh once he reached the (e/c) eyed girl. "I feel so guilty, (F/n)-chan."

"Hey, don't be too hard on yourself, Makoto-kun!" (F/n) reassured him, patting his back for support. "You're doing the right thing. You shouldn't force yourself to like a girl." The two started to walk towards the swim club. "I guess it's partly my fault since I made you come with me to school to do something first. I promise I didn't expect this to happen on a Sunday." They shared a laugh.

"No, it's not your fault (F/n)," Makoto reassured her. "I was more than happy to accompany you."

The (h/c) haired third-year nodded with a soft smile. "Besides, you can't help being one of the most attractive guys in our grade." (F/n) paused once she realized what she said. It had come out so casually that she wasn't able to stop herself. She could feel her cheeks heating up but she tried to play it off coolly. "You're just a natural heartbreaker," she joked.

"I don't mean it!" Makoto frowned.

God, he's so unbelievably adorable right now, (F/n) thought to herself.

"Are you just waiting for someone you like to confess to you, Makoto-kun?" She found herself asking the tall boy. Her blush deepened more but she stood her ground on this one.

"... Yeah. I am."

"Well, I hope she realizes her feelings because you're a great guy. She'd be pretty stupid if she misses the opportunity..." Her face was burning now. She turned her head slightly away so Makoto doesn't get the chance to see her blush. Of course, Makoto likes someone.

"(F/n)... I--"

"Oi, Makoto, (F/n)! I need your help here, pronto!" Coach Sasabe shouted from the building, waving over to the two teens. They exchanged glances before bursting out to a jog to start their work.

Work at the swim club went by normally, or so (F/n) had thought.

During the long day, she found out that Haru was visiting again along with Makoto's younger siblings. Even though (F/n) doesn't usually talk to the raven haired swimmer, she could tell that some of his focus was on her as well from the watching booth. Sure, she doesn't know why Haru was keeping an eye out for her but she shrugged it off and continued her work.

Since (F/n) didn't have much else to do for the club, whether it was assisting other coaches, cleaning equipment, or whatever else, she decided to hang around Makoto and his class for the time being. "Wow, Hayato! You're doing wonderfully," (F/n) complimented the young, violet-eyed boy with a smile. She has been watching him swim backstroke up and down the lane along with Coach Tachibana and the other four kids. She hi-fived him when he made it back to the start where she stood. "I'm so proud of you!" Hayato shot her a happy grin, something she wasn't used to but is delighted to see.

It was time to wrap up. Everyone gotten out of the pool and started drying themselves off. "Everyone, good job!" (F/n) told the rest of them, also smacking their hands for a job well done. "I'm so overjoyed to be able to watch all of you progress."

"Arigato, (F/n)-san!"

After congratulating the five kids, (F/n) glanced over at Makoto, now noticing a sad look in his eyes. "Gather round," he called out to them. The five kids approached him and were ready to listen to their coach, as well as (F/n) who didn't know what was going on. "So, I know it's pretty sudden, but today is actually my last day swimming with you guys."

Even though he was talking mostly to his students, the news shattered (F/n)'s heart. That could only mean that everything will change back to before and she will result back to only seeing him in school. It seemed like everyone didn't want the green-eyed giant to leave, of course, Makoto had been a fantastic coach, putting all his effort to make sure everyone would enjoy swimming.

"Come visit us again, Coach Tachibana!" Michi suggested with a pleading tone.

"You have to!" the others agreed, (F/n)'s heart aching for them.

"Promise, Coach Tachibana?" Hayato begged with violet, puppy-dog eyes.

"Yeah, I promise to come back and see you," Makoto promised with a warm smile, earning a round of cheers from the kids. From then on, that was the end of class and everyone was dismissed. Makoto glimpsed over to the girl that had stood there in silence while he said his goodbyes to his students. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you earlier, (F/n)."

The (h/c) haired girl waved her hand dismissively at him, baring a forced smile. "No, no. It was bound to happen someday," she reassured him. Her smile faltered a bit as she gazed into her crush's emerald eyes. "Too bad it's today, though. I've had fun working alongside you, Makoto-kun. You better keep that promise and come back to visit. I'll make Kisumi come and get you if I have to."

Makoto chuckled. "Yeah, I promise..." (F/n) looked away first since it now pained her. The fact starting to really sink in and dread overcame her. "(F/n)?"

"Mm?" she hummed in reply but didn't bother to make any eye contact.

"How long have we known each other?"

The question had struck as odd and out of the blue but she actually thought about it. "I'm not sure, really. I've always acknowledged you in school even when we don't share the same class. But, only these past few weeks have I really gotten to know you."

"Yeah, same with me." This surprised her, actually. Her crush noticed her before volunteering at the swim club? "Do you want to know who I wanted to confess to me?" Even though she didn't see it, she felt his presence in front of her, making her heart beat faster. "I wanted you to confess to me."

(F/n) whipped her head up to look at Makoto in confusion. "Heh?"

Makoto looked nervous himself but he continued on, "(F/n), I kind of knew you liked me-"

"HEH?" (F/n) squeaked out in embarrassment. "How?"

"Haru told me that he thinks so," Makoto chortled over her reaction. "From when he told me that though, I started noticing you a lot more around school. I didn't know you were working here actually when I decided to help Coach Sasabe... but when I saw you, I felt relieved and happy. Then we were able to bond and get to know each other better... I really like you (F/n) and I hope you accept my confession." (F/n) stared at him for a good minute, still flabbergasted that those words actually left his lips. She was speechless, so to give Makoto his answer, she pounced into his arms, giving him a tight hug. She buried her head into his chest and squeezed him with as much as she could muster.

"I'm so happy you chose me," she muffled into his chest, nearly in tears.

BONUS:

"Ah! Coach Tachibana and (F/n)-san are together!" The two teens abruptly pulled away from each other as they noticed Makoto's five students standing by the entranceway, already dressed to leave. "I knew it!"

"Michi, please," (F/n) muttered out, her face beet red.

"Wow, maybe Michi can look into the future!" one of the boys muttered in awe, earning a gasp from the other three.

"Maybe, I can!" The dark haired girl proclaimed broadly. She squeezed her eyes shut tight and her face contorted as she concentrated. "Coach Tachibana will go to nationals!"

"Wooow," every other child gaped. They all glanced over at Makoto for his response.

"Well, I hope so," Makoto answered sheepishly.

... Maybe Michi can look into the future.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A/n: I know. Very silly ending but I didn't really want to leave it at that before the bonus. But I kind of like it and it's cute.
I might make another Makoto Tachibana oneshot soon since he's my favorite. So, yeah. Ha.
I have a Sousuke Yamazaki oneshot already in the works so that will be done fairly soon! Maybe request on who I should do next? Also, which point of view do you guys prefer? I know with my last oneshot, it was first person and this is third person. I'm mildly curious since I tend to alternate povs styles with each oneshot.
Anyway, thanks for reading and comments and votes are very much appreciated!
