~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hmm, so this is Samezuka Academy.
"C'mon, (F/n)-chan! I'm so excited," My strawberry haired best friend, Kisumi Shigino, quipped happily. He had a firm grip on my hand as he tugged me through the gates of the private school.
The basketball player mentioned how he wanted to visit old friends, the main reason why he came to the school's festival. He ended up convincing me to tag along was because, since I'm his best friend, I should keep him company. Being friends as long as I did with him, I just had to agree. When it comes to Kisumi, it's hard to decline his pleas.
 Besides, there were a few people I've been dying to see from junior high.
The festival itself looked impressive. With Samezuka's variety of clubs came an array of booths with food, activities, and anything of the sort. Kisumi, being a gentleman, bought me treats as we strolled around the campus. I'll admit, I was having fun with just Kisumi.
We seemed to have broken away from the event when we reached a part of the academy not a lot people were at. In the distance, the two of us spot a raven-haired male in Samezuka uniform. Despite being part of the all-boy's school, he looked hopelessly lost. He seems familiar somehow.
"Oh! It's Sousuke!" Kisumi chirped, as if he read my mind. He tugged onto the sleeve of my school blouse to have me follow him. He started waving his free hand over to catch the bara's attention. "Sousuke!"
The guy's head snapped over at us with irritation blazing in his aqua eyes. "Kisumi?" He mumbled out as we approached him. Once getting a good look at his face, it clicked in mind that this must be Kisumi's friend from Sano Elementary. "What are you doing here?"
"I wanted to visit you and Rin!" Kisumi answered quite boisterously. "By the way, I don't think you two ever officially met each other. (F/n)-chan, this is Yamazaki Sousuke. Sousuke, this is (L/n) (F/n)!" Before I could give Sousuke a proper greeting, a shot of water zoomed past us, barely missing him.
Sousuke attacked Kisumi, smacking his hand over his mouth. He took his arm that held his water gun to push me and Kisumi to the closest wall. Even when Kisumi was squirming to have a say, Sousuke and I held our breath as we heard a new voice boast about his shooting skills. It was a familiar voice but it sounded oddly malicious. "You have a good aim, Makoto," Sousuke called out.
"Oh my gosh, Mako-chan?" I chirped excitedly. Sousuke hurried to cover my mouth as well. Slowly, I knew Makoto was coming closer to us by the sound of his footsteps gradually getting louder.
"AH."
"Kisumi-chan!... (F/n)-chan?"
"Better luck next time, Makoto!"
I gawked at the emerald eyed male in front of us, who looked absolutely mortified for drenching Kisumi in water. Sousuke had some nerve to use Kisumi as a shield too... But despite that… "Mako-chan!" I tackled my childhood friend into a crushing hug. "It's been so long since I last saw you!"
Makoto returned the hug, much to my pleasure. "You too, (F/n)-chan!" He pulled from me and shot Kisumi another apologetic grin. "I'm so sorry, Kisumi."
"It's ok, Makoto. You guys are playing a game, right?" The cotton candy boy asked him.
"Yes, we are. And Sousuke and I are on separate teams. That's why I tried to shoot him... Say, (F/n)-chan, have you seen Haru yet?"
I perked up upon hearing the sapphire-eyed boy's name, my heart skipping a beat. "Oh? He's here, too?" I chimed excitedly. "Do you know where he is?"
"No idea, we are also on opposite teams," Makoto sighed. I pouted at his reply and sighed as well. "But, I'm positive he'd be happy to see you."
"Would he really?"
"He never seems happy to see me," Kisumi put in with his lips tugging into a frown. I reached over and patted his sodded shoulder. "Do you still like him, (F/n)-chan?"
Butterflies fluttered in my stomach at the simple question. I placed an index finger to my cheek as I thought about my answer. "Mmm, I don't know. I haven't seen him in like three years," I replied.
Haru, Makoto, and I used to be the inseparable trio at Iwatobi Elementary. We were in the same year and we were always in the same class. I was actually introduced to Haru through Makoto, seeing that he was the social one between the two boys. I believe, even at such a young age, I was smitten with the sapphire eyed boy. I still question why I was so drawn to him. Haru was stoic, indifferent, just a boy who would rarely show his emotions to others that aren't close to him. But Haru was also passionate, dedicated, and caring.
And then, junior high happened and Kisumi came in. I don't know how it happened but the cotton candy male became my closest friend... And the closer I got to him, the more distant Haru seemed to be from me. I couldn't help it, Kisumi was more outgoing than Haru was so I always happen to hang out with him out of school. I have no clue why Haru didn't hang out with me, Kisumi, and Makoto at times. When high school came around, Haru and Makoto attended Iwatobi High and Kisumi and I attended our school.
Maybe, deep inside, there's still a special place for Haruka Nanase in my heart. "Well, you should definitely say hello to Haru if you find him," Makoto told me with that signature gentle smile of his. "I better get going. I'm sure if I go now, I might be able to catch up with Sousuke."
"Good luck, Mako-chan! I hope your team wins," I beamed at him. The bara gave us both a nod and bolted off to the same direction the other one ran. I glimpsed at Kisumi and sighed, seeing that he was still dripping wet. "I can't believe you let Sousuke manhandle you like that."
Kisumi's expression instantly contorted to a look of bewilderment. "It's not my fault!" He pouted. His arm slithered around my shoulders and he began tugging me away. "C'mon, let's go find some place for me to dry off."
I let out a squeak as I felt the wetness of his clothes pressing against my body. "Ki-chan!" I wriggled out of his grip and hurried my pace just so to prevent him from doing the same thing again. While walking ahead of him, I spot another familiar person. Man, some luck we have!... Well, I have, stupid Kisumi managed to get himself wet. "Rin! Rin-chan!" I called out, bursting out into a run towards the Samezuka outfitted male.
Curious, crimson eyes dart over to Kisumi and my direction and confusion crosses his face. "(F/n)?--OOF!" I embraced Rin into a deathly tight hug, just as I did with Makoto. "Kisumi?"
I pulled away from him. "It's so good to see you, Rin-chan!"
Kisumi finally reaches us and arm bumped Rin as a bro greeting. "You guys want to tell me why Kisumi is soaked?" Rin asked us with an amused grin.
Kisumi took the liberty to wrap an arm around the magenta haired male's shoulder, a habit he had since I've known him. "It's a funny story, actually--"
Instantaneously, my ears pick up a small click. I turned my head quick enough to see a spray of water heading towards Kisumi. Out of instinct, I step forward in front of my best friend and take the shot. I let out a yelp as I felt the cold water hit me right on the chest, splashing up to my face. "(F/n)!" Both Rin and Kisumi yelled out in surprise. "I'm sorry, I have to go. Let's all hang out sometime later, though!" Rin sprinted away before I could get out a word.
I guess I spoke too soon about that luck. I glimpsed up at the sound of someone approaching me. I was met with strikingly blue orbs filled with guilt. "Haru-chan," I breathed out at the sight of him.
"I'm sorry, (F/n). I seem to have missed," he replied. I was taken back by how low his voice had gotten but he still seemed to be the same boy I've known since junior high. No one has that particular emotionless vibe like Haru does.
"You were trying to aim for me, weren't you!" Kisumi whined next to us. Haru's lack of a response was proof enough that the basketball player may be right. "Haruuu!"
"Here." Suddenly, I was encased in cozy warmth. Haru had given me his jacket to wear over my drenched body.
I blushed at his kind gesture. "Thank you, Haru-chan."
He gave me a nod before sprinting off after Rin. I was left nearly breathless. Not seeing Haru after so long, I have forgotten to what it was like to feel whenever he's nearby. But those emotions, the very same from when I was only a junior high student, came back instantly. The absolute delight just by the sight of him and the familiar giddiness whenever I have the chance to talk to him. It was all back and I almost hate myself for it... Almost.
"Well, well, well, would you look at that." I glanced over at Kisumi and saw him making a suggestive face at me. I grimaced and smacked his chest for his annoying, wiggling eyebrows. "You're so red!" he pointed out while pinching my cheeks.
"Shut up, Ki-chan!" I hissed at him, slapping his hands away from my now sore cheeks. I wrapped myself tighter in Haru's Iwatobi jacket. It smells like chlorine... Of course, it does. I grinned happily at this fact. "I'll need to give this back to him later."
"That means you have a chance to see him again." I couldn't suppress growing smile. I was ecstatic for the mere chance of seeing the handsome swimmer once again. "You know, (F/n)-chan. Maybe it's about time you tell him you like him... Or liked him, or whatever."
I stiffened at his sudden idea. "Why?"
"Well... Don't you think Haru deserves the right to know?" He explained. "If you tell him and he doesn't have the same feelings, then you wouldn't have to see him again since we go to different schools. And if he does reciprocate the feelings, then that's great!"
I pursed my lips as I seriously thought about confessing to Haru. To be honest, Kisumi's proposition didn't sound too bad, but I would be heartbroken if I were to be rejected by the sapphire eyed boy. "I don't know... Maybe you're right," I replied.
"I know I'm right. I'm your best friend, aren't I?" The cotton candy haired male told me cheekily. I could only roll my eyes at him. "C'mon, let's go dry off somewhere. Unlike someone here, I'm feeling a bit chilly now."
"Hai." With that, I trailed behind Kisumi while proudly wearing that navy blue blazer from the boy I like so much.
~*~
Kisumi and I were lucky to have found them after a while of wandering around. It was already nearing evening and to end the festival, the school had a bonfire for students and attendees to hang out at. Kisumi and I were barely wet now, thanks to the air dryers in the school restrooms.
"Wha! Is that who I think it is? (F/n)-chan?!" The blond burst out before engulfing me into a tight embrace. "I haven't seen you since your last year at Iwatobi Elementary!"
"It's been so long, Nagi-chan," I commented while patting his fluffy head.
"Come sit with us, ne? Also with Kisumi-chan!" He continued on, tugging onto my arm to join them. I glanced back at my basketball friend and saw he was already going to sit along with the Samezuka boys. As that must be confirmation enough, I sat along with the Iwatobi swimmers. "By the way, (F/n)-chan, this is Rei-chan! He only began swimming with us last year."
After getting myself acquainted with the only one of the group I haven't met, we all slowly caught up on our lives. It was great talking to Nagisa, Makoto, Rei, and Haru. With the lighthearted atmosphere, it was like the three years and so we all haven't seen each other never happened. I managed to steal a couple secretive glances at my childhood crush. Whenever we make eye contact, I couldn't help but avert my (e/c) orbs away with pink tinting my cheeks. All of this felt way too familiar.
"By the way, (F/n)-san, is that Haru's jacket you're wearing?" Rei questioned me all of a sudden. "I noticed that it was an Iwatobi blazer and that Haru doesn't currently have his."
"Oh, right!" I slipped off the jacket I have been casually wearing this whole time and handed it over to the ebony-haired boy. "Thank you for letting me borrow it, Haru-chan."
He grabbed his jacket from me, his hands brushing against mine for a brief moment. At the contact, my heart leapt. "No problem, (F/n)..." He replied in his low, cool tone. Wha, he's so cute even when he's a little tsundere!
"(F/n)-chan! We need to get going or we'll miss our train ride home," Kisumi suddenly called out to me. He was already towering over us, his hand outstretched towards me. I grasped onto it and let him pull me into my feet. I checked the time on my phone and was genuinely surprised by how much time has passed since the beginning of the bonfire.
"Well, mina, it was wonderful seeing all of you again," I told the boys with a smile.
Haru, then, stood up. "We should get going too," he piped up, looking straight at me.
"Oh, great! Maybe we can ride the same train home, yeah?" Kisumi commented.
Haru didn't dare give Kisumi a glance as he gazed intently at me. I beamed at the freestyle swimmer, knowing that we'll have a little more time with each other. Everyone else stood up onto their feet after us. "You're right, we should go," Makoto agreed while stretching his arms and legs.
And then, all of ten of us began walking to the gates of Samezuka Academy. We bid goodbye to the boys in white and strolled over to the train station together, the Iwatobi boys, Kisumi, and me. I managed to stay besides Haru, just enjoying the fact I am with him right now, as the others walked in front of us, discussing about something I couldn't hear.
"Say, Haru-chan..." The water-loving boy glimpsed over at me. "I have a question for you." He gave me a curt nod for me to continue. "What happened in junior high?"
"... What do you mean?"
I let out a sigh before replying. This is something I need to know. "In elementary school, we all used to be very close, but when we entered junior high, you became distant from us... From me."
"I didn't mean to," was all he said. "I have a question for you..."
"Go ahead."
"Did you and Kisumi start dating when we separated to different schools?"
My eyes bulged out of its sockets at the unexpected question. "Heh?! Date Kisumi?"
"I heard my name!" The very boy chimed in at front of us, interrupting our supposedly private conversation.
"No, you didn't," Haru and I denied simultaneously.
"But, I thought I--"
"No, you didn't," I repeated again with a stern look on my face. Kisumi pouted and turned his attention to the rest of the Iwatobi boys. I returned my attention back at Haru. "We never dated."
Is... He smiling? "Oh, gomen. I just assumed."
"Do you not like Kisumi, Haru?"
"I have my reasons."
"Which are?"
"... Well, he took Makoto away... And then he took you away..." Haru's gaze was on the sidewalk instead on me. "I didn't hang out with you guys as much was because I don't like how he made you happy..."
My stomach twisted in knots as I gawked at him. What does this mean? Has he been jealous of Kisumi this whole time? Does he?... "Oh, Haru. Did you think I had a crush on him?" Hesitantly, he nodded his head, his face contorted in disappointment. "I never thought of him as more of a friend. He was only like a brother to me. Plus, I've always liked someone else." His expression looked disheartened as I told him this. I can't believe it. I quickly added in, "That someone was you."
His eyes finally clash with mine again. He was utterly confused; that itself was obvious on his usually indifferent face. "What?"
I nodded at him, baring a sweet smile. "You heard me right. I've had a crush on you, Haru-chan. I liked you ever since elementary school."
"Really?"
"Yeah. And I think I still like you."
"Oh." Haru's face was completely red, and it looked so cute on him! "I-I like you too."
"Yatta!" I couldn't help myself. I attacked Haru, wrapping my arms around his neck. He was reluctant but he let himself slither his arms around my waist, holding me tight.
"So, would you... Uh... Like to be my..." He stammered into my hair nervously.
I pulled away from him and gave him a peck on his cheek. "I'd love to be your girlfriend, Haru-chan." His face burned redder over my kiss. I giggled at this and kissed his cheek again just to get the same adorable reaction. "I thought this day would never come!"
Despite his flustered feelings, he had reached out and grasped onto my hand in his, lacing his fingers with mine. We walked the rest of the way to the train station, just like that in silence, because just having each other and knowing that we shared the same feelings was enough for the two of us.
"Eh? Did you finally confess?" Kisumi piped up the moment we made it to the train station. It was just now that everyone noticed our intertwined fingers. "I'm so happy for the two of you!" He wrapped his arms around both Haru and my shoulders, unintentionally squeezing himself between us. Simply, Haru smacked Kisumi's hand away and tugged me away from him. "Still, Haru?! You're so mean!"
I felt Haru's hand tighten on mine and I gave him a squeeze back, reassuring him that he was the only boy I want and ever wanted.
