Questers

Alrighty, here we go, my lovely readers!

Point of View: Third Person

Two Days Later

Moonlace wakes up slowly and blinks the sleep out of his eyes. He sits up and notices there aren't any bandages anymore. He sees the wounds are completely gone. 'More scars.' He heaves a sigh and finds his legs are healed as well. He gets up and walks out of his tent.

He sees it is early in the morning still and he is the only one up. He heads to the mess tent and makes breakfast for everyone since he hasn't done it yet.

'I think I remember how to do this. Being normal after so long, very different. I don't remember the last time I cooked. But I know it was with my mother.' He smiles wistfully as he goes around the kitchen, seemingly expertly.

He just sets the last plate on the table when Christina comes in rubbing the sleep out of her eyes and yawning, covering her mouth.

"Oh, was it your turn?" Moonlace asks, making her jump even though his voice was a murmur.

"Yeah. How do you feel?" Christina nods.

Moonlace shrugs. "Alright. A bit stiff from not moving for so long. How long was I out?"

"Two days give or take a few hours." Christina replies.

"Did I make it too early?" He tilts his head at her.

"No, Lady Artemis wanted to pack up and leave as soon as you ate food once you were awake. Looks like she'll be super happy today." Christina says and then sticks her head out of the tent. "Breakfast!" She calls.

The girls come in confused until they see Moonlace cleaning up the stuff he used. Artemis comes in and smiles. "Looks like someone's up and about."

Moonlace turns as he chuckles. "Yes. I'm fine, before you ask."

Artemis nods. "Good."

Ten minutes into eating the three huge waffles and four pieces of bacon on each of their plates, Moonlace hisses, interrupting the question he was about to be asked.

"Moonlace? What's the matter?" Artemis asks.

Moonlace growls at the tent entrance. "Demigods approach." He says before turning back to his food.

Artemis blinks. "I admit I wish they'd asked for permission, but do you hate them for some reason?"

Moonlace shakes his head. "No, but they are partially immortal like the Huntresses. There are three. Quest number and smell like monster."

"Oh, maybe we are supposed to help them. They should wait for us to come out if they know their manners." Artemis says.

"Perhaps." Moonlace shrugs. "Where there is a quest there is usually a prophecy. I don't like them."

He is the first to finish his food and washes off his plate before sitting back down. After a few more minutes, everyone else is done and they all head out to greet the three demigods.

Jason, Hazel, and Nico.

Hazel immediately spots the Hunter and points him out to Jason and Nico, making Moonlace growl.

"You're the one we're looking for." Nico bounds up to Moonlace, coming too close for comfort.

Moonlace hisses and Nico takes a few steps back. "Proximity is unvalued amongst demigods it seems. It has been a long while since I have encountered one. But you come too close to me."

Nico holds up his hands. "Sorry, I'm just excited."

Moonlace huffs and nods. "I understand the excitement in your chest at nearing a step in a quest if it is not dreadful. But it normally is."

"Okay, you're supposed to know-" Jason starts.

"Slow down, son of Jupiter." Moonlace raises his hand. "I know a great many things but first I must know what you think I do."

Jason sighs. "Hazel, would you like to do the honors?"

Hazel nods. "There was a prophecy," Hazel begins and before Moonlace can stop her, she repeats the lines. "The one you seek hides in the shadows,

He is the Hunter in deep sorrows,

He bands together with the Moon,

Look to him to receive your boon,

He holds the answer close at heart,

And his mask is a work of art." Hazel finishes.

"You are the Hunter, you are with Lady Artemis, and now we've found you. We had help and got answers on who the 'Hunter' was from several different monsters. They don't like you." Nico says, using air quotes around Hunter.

"Congratulations, you found me." Moonlace rolls his eyes and his weight shifts. "But I have no idea what boon I possess to give to you. I hold many things close to my heart and I keep them there. Monsters don't like me because I have hunted them down mercilessly forever."

"But you're supposed to know where Percy is!" Jason exclaims.

"Perseus Jackson, I have been hearing that name a lot lately. I have never met Perseus Jackson, child. Maybe he was tortured at the same time and that's where I laid eyes upon him, but other than that, I cannot tell you anything." Moonlace tells him.

"Torture! When?" Hazel squeaks.

"During the last war, down in Tartarus. There were screams accompanying my own. I lasted forever until he dug into me just right. It took him a great many sessions to get me to make noise and when I did, it didn't stop. It got worse. Tartarus is meant to break you and I didn't. He doesn't take lightly to that. If Perseus didn't break, then he's an old friend of mine because there is a grudge over both our heads. I escaped Tartarus just as he did. And time runs differently in Tartarus. A day up here could be a year down there. Perseus is beyond his age and so am I. If I even remember correctly what my age even is." Moonlace tells her.

"He never told us." Jason whispers. "Is that true?" Jason turns to Nico.

Nico looks at the ground. "I don't know. I thought it had only been days because that's what it was when I was put into that jar. It's fuzzy but I remember terrifying things."

"Look, no one likes to talk about Tartarus. I will tolerate it, but it's not one of my favorite conversation topics and I don't normally speak with people. The Hunt is the exception. Rumors do spread and I hear many things in the shadows. Over the years, I have accumulated many things in information. Word is Perseus saw Tartarus as the real thing instead of what demigods are supposed to see. The girl that was with him was spared but his eyes became unclouded once when he almost died." Moonlace says. "I don't know much about him. Rumors and secrets pass through the dark, especially at night. Perhaps he goes by another name?"

"Another name? What name would he take?" Jason starts muttering to himself after that.

"What's your name? It can't be Hunter." Hazel looks at him while Nico tries to pull himself together and out of his own head.

"Moonlace." Moonlace answers easily, shrugging.

"The flower?" Hazel asks curiously.

"Yes, the flower." Moonlace sounds condescending and Phoebe giggles.

"Can you think of anything?" Jason asks, pointing somewhat accusingly at Moonlace.

"I'll bite off your finger if you keep pointing at me, Jason Grace." Moonlace tells him casually and Jason drops his hand immediately. "Look, I'm sure as lovely a person this young chap I keep hearing about seems to be, I don't know him. We are looking for him. Perhaps by looking with us you will receive your treasure. The prophecy could have meant that if you find me, the Hunt," Moonlace motions around and includes himself, which puzzles the demigods. "Would help you find Perseus."

"That can't be right though because it says you hold the answer close to your heart. It means Percy means something to you." Hazel argues.

Moonlace sighs and walks over to a rock. He puts his arms over his knees and stares at the ground. "Perseus Jackson does mean something to me."

Artemis looks mad. "Why didn't you tell me?!"

Moonlace looks hurt and she can tell, even with only being able to see part of his face. "Because I swore to him never to reveal his location. Even if it got me killed. Not to anyone, not a single person." Moonlace's face completely disappears in shadows as his head drops. "You can't ask me to do this." His voice breaks.

"But we need him! We miss him!" Nico says desperately.

"Please." Moonlace whispers. "Stop."

Artemis puts a hand on Jason's shoulder before he can speak. She comes over to Moonlace and sits next to him. "Was it an oath on the Styx?"

Moonlace shakes his head.

"Then you can trust me. I won't let anything bad happen. I'm sure Perseus will forgive you, he's that kind of man." Artemis speaks gently.

"No! I-" He starts to yell but thinks better of it and his voice returns to its whisper. "I can't. I would trust you with my life, my lady. But you can't ask me to do this. It hurts far too much." Moonlace gets up and walks into the woods.

Everyone stares after him and Artemis sighs. They all sit down around the fire at night and Moonlace still hasn't come back.

'I have feelings for Moonlace. Sitting here thinking about him is making me realize them.' Artemis thinks and sighs.

"What's wrong, milady?" Thalia asks.

'She's a lot like Zoë in that way, knowing when something is bothering me.' "Oh, nothing. Just wondering how to get Moonlace to answer."

"But when did he ever see him?" Phoebe asks.

'I've seen the look in Moonlace's eyes when they flicker in those shadows. He knows I have some kind of feelings for him that are close to love or even is love. He's talented, kind, quiet, mannered, and protects those he loves with his life.' "I honestly don't know, Phoebe." Artemis answers.

"Should we go after him?" Hannah asks.

"Is that wise?" Hazel counters.

"Well if we want to know where Perseus is, he's the one who knows." Erica tells her.

"But how will we get him to trust us with it?" Christina chimes in.

"He trusts us." Rose comments.

"True, but remember, even though he sees us as friends, he still thinks that isn't good enough." Atalanta defuses Rose's thought.

"He seems secretive." Jason mutters.

"No wonder, he's been out here forever hunting monsters and running around at night. You've been so bitter since Piper died. At least Percy didn't whine when Annabeth died along with her." Nico snaps.

Hazel gasps. "Nico!"

"Well it's true. Jason needs to pull his head out of his hind end. He's been rude and spiteful for over three hundred years now and it's getting on my last good nerve. What would Percy say?" Nico had flung his arm out to motion at Jason.

"What would he say indeed?" A voice comes from the woods. Moonlace steps out of the shadows and the fire dances eerily across the part of his face you can see. Then he walks to his tent and doesn't come back out.

'I wonder.' Artemis thinks to herself.
