Keeping His Distance
Here you are, my lovely readers!
Point of View: Third Person
The Next Day
Moonlace stands in the center of camp watching what all the others do and tries to learn by observing. Thalia walks up to him and gives him a square of fabric. Black with a silver cord tied around it. He sniffs at it experimentally and Thalia rolls her eyes but is amused. She finds it neat and funny he is curious about the little things, like a child, yet he's so serious and makes sure it isn't dangerous first.
He pulls the cord undone and the tent pops to life. He jumps away, hissing and everybody jumps as the noise scares the life out of them. But calm down when they see why Moonlace hissed.
Thalia is laughing so hard she's crying and her face is red. "It's just a tent." Moonlace growls and studies it. "Just go in. That way you don't have to sleep outside."
"I like sleeping outdoors. The stars are my favorite part. Tents block them out." That's the second time he's spoke since dinner on his first night. But he picks up his bag and goes inside anyway.
That Night
Moonlace sits in the tree, looking up at the stars. He sings, and everybody hears it without him knowing. The song, 'My Confession' by Josh Groban. The night sounds fall silent to hear his beautiful voice.
"I have been blind, unwilling to see
The true love you're giving.
I have ignored every blessing.
I'm on my knees confessing
That I feel myself surrender
Each time I see your face.
I am staggered by your beauty,
Your unassuming grace.
And I feel my heart is turning,
Falling into place.
I can't hide it
Now hear my confession.
I have been wrong about you.
Thought I was strong without you.
For so long nothing could move me.
For so long nothing could change me.
Now I feel myself surrender
Each time I see your face.
I am captured by your beauty,
Your unassuming grace.
And I feel my heart is turning,
Falling into place.
I can't hide it
Now hear my confession.
[Bridge:]
You are the air that I breathe.
You're the ground beneath my feet.
When did I stop believing?
Cause I feel myself surrender
Each time I see your face.
I am staggered by your beauty,
Your unassuming grace.
And I feel my heart
Falling into place.
I can't hide it
Now hear my confession.
I can't hide it
Now hear my confession.
Hear my confession." They all can hear the melancholy tone as he sings, making some even cry. "Why did I fall in love so long ago? I will never be whole. I have allowed so many to enter my heart. And I'm doing it again. I'm such a fool. I should have said no." Artemis listens to the broken voice and sheds her own tears.
The Next Morning
Moonlace stays up in the tree all day, whittling and keeping himself occupied. The scrapings landing in a pile to the ground. By next morning, he has set the four whittlings on a boulder in the middle of camp and is already back in the tree. The wolf, a bear, a stag, and a panther.
I encourage you all to listen to Josh Groban, my lovely readers.
