Chapter 14

"What am I supposed to do with you now? I have a class to teach in exactly eight minutes. I can't just let you stay here alone." Severus looked at the small boys sitting on his bed before he began to pace.

"Pway?"

"No, Harry. You can't play no-" Without ever finishing his sentence he picked them up and went hurriedly to his office right next to the potions classroom.

"You stay put while I try to make something suitable for you." Severus scowled slightly at the two boys who were currently sitting in his office chair. The professor turned to the door separating his classroom and his office and using his wand he made quick work of putting away one shelf and in its place, he conjured a small fence to make a hexagonal space for the children to play in. Next, he conjured some toy bricks, paper and pens. The floor of that little space even got a rug, so they wouldn't catch a cold playing there. Finished with this he turned, took the babies and placed them in the small playing area he just installed.

"I want you to play here and don't break anything. I will be back in a few minutes and remember: I always have a watchful eye on the two of you so don't think you'll get away should you destroy anything." Severus scowled at them one last time before leaving his office leaving the door ajar.

The two babies looked first at each other and then at the toys Severus provided for them. After some time spent just examining the bricks they started building with them. They stacked them up and gradually built a wall about one metre high until they had to stop because they were lacking bricks. At first, the boys just sat there, looking at each other, before they went to the back of their little play area, hid behind their wall and started drawing.

Severus entered his office roughly forty minutes after he left it. He had dismissed his class of third-year Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws after they were finished copying their given assignments for the next lesson from the board written in his usual neat handwriting. Upon entering his office he heard no sound. Intrigued he turned to look at the play area he made them but all he saw was a wall made of bricks. Unlike what his old self would have done, he entered it and bent over the wall to look for the babies. He found them lying next to each other in a deep sleep over their drawings. A small smile pulled at the corners of his mouth. After thinking for a brief moment he conjured their cribs, two blankets and pillows. Having done that he placed them in there, careful to not wake them up. Just as the bell was about to ring he went back to teach another class of potions with the students he not-so-fondly referred to as dunderheads whenever they managed to blow up their cauldrons.

With a slight scowl on his face, he opened the door to his classroom to let the group of sixth-year Gryffindors and Slytherins in just as the bell rang. The students flooded in and took their seats. Out of the corner of his eyes, he saw someone who originally didn't belong in the classroom. His scowl deepened as he walked towards his apprentice.

"What do you think you are doing here?" Was his harsh acknowledgement of her presence.

"I am here to monitor your lesson, Sir. Professor McGonagall sent me to look how the children were faring, too."
At first, he had to reign in his temper but after a while, he said: "The children are faring well. You were supposed to monitor me this morning but seeing as you weren't there you're going to clean up the cupboards. Once you've done that you'll find a stack of ungraded second-year assignments on my desk." Not waiting for her response he turned on his heel and walked to the front of his classroom, his robes characteristically billowing behind him.

She just stood there, staring at him slightly questioning before actually going into his office to clean the cupboards while Severus Snape started his lecture on the draught of the living death. With a sigh, she started her task.

Roughly one and a half hours later she was finished and made to sit at his desk to grade the assignments he mentioned. Reading the nonsense some students wrote made her question that things like books or libraries even existed. They literally did no research at all and by the looks of it didn't even bother to listen to their professor. Shaking her head she corrected one after another.

Severus decided to stay in his classroom for the five-minute break between his sixth year Gryffindor and Slytherin lesson and the third year Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws and prepared everything for them to brew. Meanwhile, Hermione scribbled away on the assignments and couldn't help but sigh. "And I always thought he was making everything about the quality of our assignments up. No wonder that he is that strict in class" whispered the young woman just before a babies cry interrupted her.

"Draco, what is it now?" Hermione was exasperated and exhausted, both due to the assignments she had to read. A whining child most likely waking up the other one and making it whine, too was the last thing she needed now. "Dwayco is hungwy." The blonde baby boy looked sadly down at his tummy and then back up at Hermione, but before she was able to respond an infuriated Severus Snape stormed into his office.

"Why am I still torturing myself with all this?" growled the man, pacing the room. His entrance woke up the second baby boy who started to cry rather silently. "Now, everything's fine, Harry. No need to be crying" whispered Hermione after picking him up. "Would you mind if I interrupted my task of reading that stack of uncreative excuses for laziness in favour of having these two fed?" The dark-haired man just nodded and murmured: "Just go, I'll be there shortly," and resumed his pacing at an abnormal pace.

The young brown-haired witch took the two boys and walked with them to the great hall. Once seated at her table she greeted her friends before looking up at the head table at the headmistress who in return looked questioning at the empty chair to her left where the dour man usually sat. Hermione was about to answer that using gestures just when he stormed into the hall and rushed to his seat.
