finding
When Freddie reached campus he realized he'd made a mistake. Acting on instinct his feet had taken him in the direction he knew Leo had gone in but at campus he had no idea where to start looking for him. He figured Leo would head for places Freddie might be, like the library, but it was pointless to try to follow him around the place. He pulled his phone out to call Nikki in case she'd seen Leo, but his phone must have died somewhere along the way
He caught Nikki and Tim as they were leaving the canteen, both their eyes lighting up at the sight of him.
"Where the hell have you been?" she shouted slapping him on the shoulder.
"I thought said you were alright you're not alright are you I knew it —"
"I am fine," Freddie insisted cutting Tim off mid rant. "You just got in my head a bit and I was worried about Leo and he didn't answer his phone now I can't fine him?"
"We just saw him," Nikki said.
"Seriously?" Freddie looked around like Leo might have been standing near by the whole time without him noticing.
"He went looking for you," Nikki clarified.
"For real? Crap. Do you know where he went?"
"His place I think?" Tim answered. "I don't know he didn't really stop to talk. Kinda rude actually—
"You're not okay are you?" Nikki asked Freddie cutting Tim off again.
"No I am honesty I'm worried about Leo he's got a lot more to lose than me. Did he seem upset?"
"'He seemed worried about you," Nikki said.
"Crap, okay I'll try his place again."
Freddie turned to leave but he was stopped by Tim who grabbed his arm.
"At least call before you go running off again."
"My phone's dead."
Nikki pulled her phone out of her pocket and held it out to Freddie, "use mine."
"His phone's dead."
"Then call Sadie," Nikki suggested rolling her eyes. "Honestly both of you are hopeless just stop and think for five seconds will you."
Every part of Freddie was desperate to run, he wanted to keep moving until he saw Leo. Stopping without knowing he was okay felt wrong, but he controlled himself and took Nikki's phone pressing call on the number Nikki had already lined up for him.
"Is Freddie—" Sadie said as soon as the call connected.
Freddie cut her off, "it's me is Leo back there."
"Hang on," she said.
Freddie could hear the muffled conversation that happened beyond the phone.
"It's Freddie," Sadie said to someone.
"On it," Kye replied.
"Where are you?" Sadie asked voice clear as she spoke into the phone again.
"Canteen at campus. Is Leo there?"
Freddie's foot was tapping impatiently, he wanted to know whether he should be moving again. It felt wrong to be standing still.
"Don't move," Sadie said like she could read his mind.
He couldn't if he wanted to because Nikki and Tim had decided to box him in from either side four eyes were watching him wearily like he might make a run for it at any moment. He took a breath to relax himself a little and told himself everything was going to be fine. Leo was going to be fine. They were going to be fine.
After what felt like an age Freddie heard the ruffle of Sadie's phone being moved around and then the sound of heavy breathing flowed down the line. He wasn't sure how he recognized just a breath but he did.
"Leo."
