Things are changing at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. A chilled feeling of unease has replaced any sense that the castle could remain a safe haven to teach and learn magic. With the misfortunes of the previous year put behind them in the establishment of a new Minister, Cornelius Fudge, students arrive at Hogwarts to find the castle infested with bats, cutting off the owl post, hampering lessons, and launching rumors that there may be a vampire at the school. A vampire that could very well be their new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, whose unorthodox methods and unsettling strictness undermines the reputations of the former Toilers of Trouble, Fred and George Weasley, who return to the castle in high spirits, poised to claim new ground as pranksters and Beaters for the Gryffindor team.
