how do you bury an atheist?
where would one go
surely, not, to the great sky beyond
with those so passionate about their faith
and those so passionate about the godly
and rightly so!
because they can believe what they want to believe
and one cannot believe too.

what happens once one is lowered into the ground?
there are those who are believed to travel farther than the grave, whether to heaven or to hell, or another godly world, but what about the others?
what about the one who wasn't able to make comfort in faith, in the godly?
can they find comfort in the ground?
can the surrounding dirt and other bones offer the same stability
as a predetermined destination,
a predetermined fate?
maybe yes,
but also maybe not.

can those who loved one respect the decision
to believe or not to believe,
or will those who loved one choose to take the simpler route
and hope God accepts those who never saw Him clearly enough to want to spend eternity in His kingdom?
can those who loved one simply celebrate them and not where they are headed?

i hope it's not the latter, but part of me does not believe so.
